Bletchley Park was run by historians (Hinsley, Briggs), classicists (Knox, Adcock), musicologists, papyrologists, pure mathematicians (Turing, of course) — people whose degrees would fail Sunak’s test, yet who did more for this country than any number of well-paid City analysts

It was such an honour to speak to @wmarybeard at the @edfringe this lunctime. I shall be forever haunted by the image of people in ancient Rome shitting sea urchins. You had to be there. And if you weren't, listen to the Iain Dale All Talk podcast. It'll be there in a few weeks.

@wmarybeard @trussliz "Patriotism demands seeing faults as well as virtues. And trying to do better." A throwaway line in a tweet that should be slapped on every school and university in the land. 👌

While I am on the subject, I thought @trussliz calling Britain the “best country in the world” in the telegraph was a misstep. I am not a committed self-flagellator (& I too “love my country”) but patriotism demands seeing faults as well as virtues. And trying to do better.
I don’t agree with @NicolaSturgeon on quite a few things. But for @trussliz to call her an “attention seeker”…. Blimey. Aren’t politicians supposed to seek attention? Does Liz Truss not?

I hope I have been saying this clear enough. Yes, there has been a revolution in Cambridge since I was a student; and yes there is a long way to go. Do listen, there was no such thing as the 'precariate' back then. one reason it is good to retire twitter.com/wmarybeard/sta…
i have been giving inteviews about retiring. i really hope i have made it clear that we ought to be thiking about the precariate at the bottom if the structure. I have been lucky. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0…
