Congratulations Pam. Very well deserved! I look forward to watching the onscreen version of your memoir. twitter.com/nerdseyeview/s…
Locked up indefinitely at Shanghai Disney sounds pretty much like hell: cnbc.com/2022/10/31/sha…
I am. Spain last week. Manhattan today. Then home for awhile. Home is always good. twitter.com/blackmithrandi…
9:41 AM @ Union Station (probably the most beautiful building in Washington, DC). On to the next place . . .
In a long line at passport check, made longer by several hundred whingeing Brits, vocally upset they can’t zoom thru the EU queue like they used to. Reminder folks: you get what you vote for.
Hiking in Spain! (Yes, El Camino de Santiago. No, not the whole thing. Next time.) But gorgeous autumn weather, fair sun & lots of very old stone. After 8 miles, a rest at the Monastery of San Millán de Suso.
I’m beginning to think so. I get all the leg room plus no awkward nudging for the arm rest. Also: doubles as a flotation device. twitter.com/cowhand214/sta…
Waiting til mid-flight. What if it’s snakes! twitter.com/TravelingAnna/…
Indeed. Seatbelted—with seat in upright position for takeoff. Not wearing a mask though. I wonder if I’m entitled to the suitcase’s in-flight meal? twitter.com/dangerjr/statu…
Flying Iberia to Madrid. Last row next to lavatories. My seat mate is a piece of yellow plastic luggage with its own full-fare ticket, purchased by a passenger up in 1st class. Multiple babies screaming before takeoff. Travel is so glamorous.
Back in Wadi Rum, Jordan’s bright red desert. 104° F by 10 AM. How marvelous to come back to a country I love so much. If you’ve never been, you should come. 🇯j1
Beautiful afternoon in the Serengeti, watching several thousand zebra chase the new rain to greener pastures.
Flying over the Nile today, on my rapid journey around the globe. I’m enjoying the perspective of our planet from above & wish everyone of us could know the beauty of everywhere.
No secrets. Just moving very quickly. This morning I saw lions mating in the Serengeti. Tonight I’m eating dinner in Petra. twitter.com/MaxineGaddis/s…
Taj Mahal in the rain with zero crowds. I’ve made it halfway around the world over the past 12 days. I’m exhausted but enjoying India at this tail end of the monsoon. Very different feel than when it’s blazing hot.
Flying over the Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Queensland. Amazing to witness the largest living structure on Earth, which has been growing a few centimeters per year for thousands and thousands of years.
I wish but I was in & out. Whistle stop visit to Port Douglas! twitter.com/slippycaff/sta…
Hanging out with some kangaroos in a land down under . . .
That’s right! Thank you Maxine! It’s sieste great to have you doing for the ride. I’m thrilled to be back in Oz! twitter.com/MaxineGaddis/s…
Woke up in Australia. Wanted to hear some Tame Impala. Clicked on "Let it Happen" but then forced to sit through minutes of YouTube ads encouraging me to join the Australian Army.
Hopscotching across the Pacific Ocean reminds me of the immensity of our watery blue planet. Flying into Fiji. 🇫42
Made it out to the Moai on Rapa Nui. Ancient monuments expose our millimeter lives against the greater measure of time.
Welcome to Rapa Nui . . .
Yes. Yes we are. Yesterday: Peru. Today: Rapa Nui. twitter.com/MaxineGaddis/s…
Landing on Rapa Nui in the South Pacific . . .
Yes! Coca leaves are indigenous plant medicine w/ many benefits, including the alleviation of altitude sickness. twitter.com/ugottafriend/s…
Repacking coca leaves in the side of my mouth at Machu Pichu @ 8,000 ft in the Peruvian Andes.
Yes they raise guinea pigs (los coyes) for food in Peru. No I don’t need to try it for the tourist novelty of eating rodentia. I’ve had too many as pets. But just look at these cuties!
Splendid day exploring Cusco. What a magnificent city! Lots of contemplation on the competing grandeur of Spanish & Inca civilizations, the tragic & glorious past, and the color & beauty of Peru today.
I’m off on a circumnavigation of the globe, 1st stop: PERU! I loved hopping off the plane & walking into a country I love dearly. Loved the mountains, the sky & the food. Can’t wait to explore new heights on this journey around our beautiful planet. ¿LiSTO?
Me: Grande dark roast black plz! Starbucks barista (hands me drink): It’s medium roast. Is that ok?/ Me (disappointed): I guess./ Starbucks barista: It’s the same anyway, right?/ Me: Uh. No. (Holds up airport line to explain fundamental superiority of dark roast to medium) ☕️

It was a great video. Alas, I deleted my Facebook account after their disappointing descent towards fascism. #DeleteFacebook twitter.com/matthewteller/…

Hiking in Scotland in July; the purple heather blooming & the sky in constant turmoil overhead. Deep inside my cells, my Scottish DNA is dancing a jig.
72° F today, which counts as a heat wave in Scotland. Lots of shirtless folks picnicking on the green, playing extensive cricket matches & barbecuing bangers in the park. Then at 10 pm, the sun sets and people quickly find their coats.
Hiking in Scotland! Back in the motherland for a few weeks, sharing one of my favorite destinations w/ @NatGeo Expeditions. twitter.com/MaxineGaddis/s…
Back in Glasgow for a wee spell . . .
Bastille Day 2022: made eye contact with a venomous snake; attended a birthday party for a 32-year old elephant; deleted 300 emails en route to the airport; changed outfits in the disabled stall of the men’s room; boarded a flight to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳AIF4CMo
I’m passing thru Reykjavík for one night only & happened upon this LGBTQ+ 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ vigil in response to deadly hate crime in Oslo. Sad that we are still gathering like this—not in joy—but to be seen, heard, respected & protectefhe
5,000-year old stone carvings in the Neolithic temples of Malta. Across so many ancient cultures, the circular spiral is a universal symbol for the divine feminine.
I’m in Malta today, standing outside the island nation’s parliament, comprised of 69 seats, the majority of which currently belong to the Labor Party, whose average age is 40. A very old country led by young progressives. 🇲bq
I’m in Slovenia, where summer is in full force. It’s nice to remember what a splendid a country it is & witness so many aspects of Slovenian culture (fresh organic food, cycling, public transit, renewable energy & zero litter). Travel always reminds me that we can do better.
Unexpected travel is often the best kind & last night I flew across the Atlantic on the private jet of the New England Patriots, which is apparently a sports team.
In transit, as they say. But what a terrific city to pass through it only for a few days. Waving hello to all my Boston friends & family! twitter.com/cowhand214/sta…
