Today, as you plan for next week, be sure to think of others, especially the ones you are thankful for. Keep them and you safe this year. Today’s song: Peaceful Easy Feeling - The Eagles
We’d normally be discussing when and where we’d like to meet up for drinks next Wednesday. But this year, little trickier getting together with Covid. Hell, I can’t even sit down at a Chick-fil-A in the middle of a 5 hour road trip.
Good morning - Some food for thought: if thanksgiving turkey really is so good, why don’t we eat it more often? Don’t get me wrong, the stuffing is the real show stopper. And if your favorite part are the beans, go sit at the kids table.
Today, make sure you are having conversations, not selling. Be thoughtful in your talking and mindful in your listening. If you actually want someone to be well, help make them well. Today’s song: Ship to Wreck - FaTM
Every day we are faced with being able to give or take. We can build into someone or we can break them down. There is nothing wrong with being sincere as long as it’s truthful and doesn’t have an underlying motive.
Good morning - I hope this message finds you well during these truly unprecedented times! Did that sound fake? Because it was. 7 months into this thing and you’d think sales would have figured out a new way to start emails by now. But, what if they mean it?
Today, before you pick a side, put yourself in the person’s shoes. Why does he need a gun? Why did she need an abortion? Where do my taxes go? It’s going to be a bumpy ride to November, let’s try to smooth it out. Today’s song: Are You In - Incubus
I typically refer to myself as purple, meaning I see both sides well. I’m not 100% for or against anything. I feel like a judge and I like the facts and the long term cause & effects. Seems like this year, everyone is picking sides: a nation divided.
Good morning - Election years always have a certain vibe to them. In 2016, the USA didn’t know what would happen. Never before was there a non political person selected as representative. People lost their mind when he won. And now again, this year, uncertainty.
Today, as you push something off to tomorrow, put your foot in your mouth, or just goof something up, trust that you can fix it by focusing on not focusing on it. It’ll be OK. Today’s song: You Do You - Jason Mraz
But it’s difficult! Our minds are always working, literally. But that same mind that’s keeping you up can calm you down, too. For me, it’s praying and remembering what I’m thankful for that gets me to sleep. Don’t pray? Trying talking to yourself.
Good morning - Some times we can’t get out of our own mind. You know, when you’re up at 3am thinking about that dumb thing you did, or that big meeting the next day. Your mind needs the sleep. Don’t fight it.
Today, I am impressed by my 5yo ability to cut through the distractions of the world and be positive when so many are being negative. We could all learn a little from her. Today’s song: I Loved Her First - Heartland
My oldest child started school this week. Not only is that a significant moment in time, but I never thought she’d go wearing a mask. I wasn’t sure how she’d do, but “it was the best day ever.”
Good morning - I include a song every week for a few different reasons. Sometimes it fits the theme. Other times it was playing when I wrote WW so I went with it. But sometimes, I write because of a song. Music can be very motivating.
Today, what are you doing? Putting your head in the sand or building a castle with it? Success takes time and you won’t get there in reverse. Today’s song: The Less I Know the Better - Tame Impala
Now I know sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward, but even then, there is a plan! Retreat without cause is defeat. Regrouping is different.
Good morning - You know how you get through things? You get through them. Can’t go around it, can’t go over it, can’t go under it, have to go through it. You should go forward not backwards.
Today, find your milestones and let’s get after them. Don’t worry if no one sees you though, there will always be more. Oh, and if you think there aren’t? Pick a new path. Today’s song: Riders On the Storm - The Doors
I hit a milestone recently and my first thought was “who saw that!?” I was looking for recognition. But it didn’t come. No one really noticed. So I’ve set my sight on a new, bigger, further away milestone.
Good morning - Milestones use to be used to well, mark the miles. Pretty straightforward name. What that term has become is more of an accomplishment in the modern age. After all, your watch or GPS tracks miles for you.
Today, recognize that this isn’t the end of the game, it’s half time. Life is a game of inches and seconds that add up so let’s just take it a moment at a time. Don’t forget to wash your hands. Six Feet Apart - Luke Combs
First it was Kobe, then Covid, few natural disasters, and now some old fertilizer blew up Lebanon? Gosh it feels like we should just give up to save some face. Or... we could see that we still have a second half of the year to get it right.
Good morning - I swear this year just has a different attitude to it. Every January we set out plans to make the next 300+ days the best we’ve ever had. But this year keeps sucker punching us like we brought a knife to a gun fight. Well I’ve had enough.
Today, ask yourself what defines you. If your life was a TV show, what channel would it be on and what would be the rating? And remember, this isn’t acting, it’s real life. Today’s song: Looking for Me - Diplo
I have seen so many “quarantine projects” on Facebook and Instagram feeds go incomplete. Why? What else are you doing? Is it that difficult to build a little bit of your deck every week? Are 10 push ups every morning that cumbersome?
Good morning - Habits define us. If you want to run a marathon, you will make running a habit and thus, you are a runner. If you want to be a doctor, you will make studying a habit. Want to buy a new house? You’ll making saving a habit.
Today, start writing it down to scratch it off. It won’t be easy to get it all done. It won’t be pretty at first BUT the work you put in today for tomorrow will pay off next week, month, and year. Today’s song: Come & Go - Juice WRLD
I’m a big fan of lists. Get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. It helps me visualize and plan my day. You wouldn’t take a road trip with out some planning, why start your day that way?
Good morning - What is the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning? Was it “I’m hungry!” Was it “I need more sleep!” Or was it “OK, I know what I need to do today, let’s go.” Hopefully it wasn’t “where am I.”
Today, as with many of our thoughts, reflect. Find the good that’s come from this season, but don’t shy away from the bad. Get through the bad - fix it - and then enjoy the good. Today’s song: The House I Live In - Frank Sinatra
However, all this time behind closed doors has really caused us to all look at the details. For some, it’s a stain on the carpet you never noticed. For others, it’s a stain on our past or our actions. Ok, now you see it, find a way through.
Good morning - What COVID-19 has taught us, more so than anything, is that we always find a way. Can’t go to a restaurant? Delivery. Can’t go to church? YouTube. Can’t see grandma? FaceTime. Where there is a will there is a way.
Today, don’t forget that behind every rain cloud trying to ruin your day is the sun just waiting to shine. Look for a fresh start and make your world a little better today. Today’s song: It Won’t Be Like This for Long - Darius Rucker
Yet, not every headline is doom and gloom. If you look through any set of weeds, your bound to find a flower. NASCAR circles around one of its drivers, voting polls in the US stayed open, and baseball is back, to mention a few.
Good morning - Back after two weeks. Had to focus on family. Moved and added a new baby. Everyone is doing great and we’re adjusting to our new life. It’s been a fresh start and a welcomed distraction from the headlines which can be depressing.
Good morning - Let’s keep this simple today: be better. Today’s song: Redemption Song - Bob Marley
Today, in the middle of a global pandemic, ask yourself how you can regroup, recharge, and reconnect. You don’t need a beach or a boat, but do something different. Then come back ready, focused. Today’s song: Sunday Best - Surfaces
I use to take a vacation every summer as a kid. We’d get a big beach house and just disappear for a week. Now, as a adult, I find it difficult to take time off. Thing is, we need time off. You sleep every night, why wouldn’t you vacation every year?
Good morning - This is a reminder that today is in fact, Wednesday. Weeks like this, with holidays in them, always throw people off. Sometimes, weeks like this can be a little foggy. They should be a time to recharge and regroup.
Today, start a new routine. Don’t over think it. Don’t post it online. Just do 10 push or sit ups. That’s it. Ten. Good for your heart and your brain - you just accomplished something. Today’s song: Stronger - Kanye West
Excuses, that’s why. People make too many excuses. Not enough time. It’s hard. My kids. Gym is too expensive. Stop. Push ups are free and take a solid minute of your day. You’ll spend more time reading this.
Good morning - Do you work out? If you don’t you should - it’s good for you. Physical activity has been tied to good mental health (news flash: your brain is a muscle). If you could make yourself happier, stronger, and better... why wouldn’t you?
Today, remember that the butterfly likes sugar water, not vinegar. And just like corona, kindness is highly contagious. Today’s song: Hero - Weezer
Self reflection can be difficult. It’s easy to criticize others but some of us don’t think our shit stinks. Fact is, we all have work we can do on ourselves. Maybe we’ll come out of this like a butterfly.
Good morning - Are we ready to open the world back up? Are we prepared to wear masks? Wash our hands? Stay six feet apart? ...How about be polite? Say please and thank you? Remember the golden rule?
Today, don’t look inside, look outside. The world is still a huge place with lots to explore and people to meet. Here’s a challenge: can you make a new friend during all this? You can’t lose. Good luck. Today’s song: Southern State of Mind - Darius Rucker
Or, I should say, it paused. I am the type of person that needs interaction - I say hi and wave when I’m on a walk. So I needed to adjust how I stayed involved. Meetings went digital, clients now know my kids, and I’m signed up for more meeting apps than I knew existed!
Good morning - In my normal, daily life before Coronavirus, I interacted with many different people. My job had me connected all over my city, I was active in a couple after work meet ups, and was making new friends at church. Then it all stopped.
Today, as you support local, be careful and be safe. We all want to live our lives, we all want to be able to laugh about this time of our lives years later. Let’s get through this together. Today’s song: Caution - The Killers.
