As I told @JohnCassidy today, Dems can make a set of full-throated arguments right now taking credit for higher wages and economic growth. And then they should double down on long-term change. #Infrastructureweek twitter.com/JohnCassidy/st…

2. The lesson from India was that Delta is highly contagious and, like earlier variants, deadly to some of the unvaccinated. The lesson from the UK was that the Delta is highly contagious and far, far less deadly to the vaccinated.
To be fair, I think the WH/CDC has been messaging this for a week or two. Given the evidence from India and the UK, they were late, but they are there now. twitter.com/ben_golub/stat…
Why don't the headlines all say that Delta is a new tsunami on the horizon that's here to kill a lot of people, and there's just barely time for most of those who are going to die to save themselves.

The vaccine was developed and authorized under a Republican Administration, and it’s been distributed and administered under a Democratic one. The vaccines are safe, they are highly effective, and there’s nothing political about them.

Just now, @FSCDems approved our bill increasing oversight of ‘family offices.’ These offices of the mega-rich control $6T (more than private equity and venture capital COMBINED) yet have ZERO oversight. One family office recently caused $10B in losses across several major banks. twitter.com/openmarkets/st…

Dear Ted Cruz : Midland Texas is back to January numbers for Covid. Only 39 per cent of us are vaccinated thanks to you and your idiot Republican colleagues. Many Trump supporters are dying out here. If this doesn’t concern you, what will? #MorningJoe twitter.com/tedcruz/status…

The fact that any Republican would support Donald Trump after this happened is an absolute disqualifier for me, no matter how much I might agree with them about any other issue under the sun. In other words, America First.

4/3: To be sure, there were sunspots and game theory/ co-ordination stories of multiple equilibria, but the workhorse models didn't really incorporate them, which circumscribed the policy arguments that orthodox macroeconomists would take seriously.
3/3 This general idea underpinned a lot of Keynesian thinking/policy in the 1950s/60s--Kaldor, Heller, etc--but it got lost in the formalization of the subject.
2/3: Significant policy implications. Also encouraging that multiple equilibria and virtuous circles encompassing policy/capital investment/ growth are finally being incorporated into fully articulated mainstream macro models.
1/3: Very interesting academic paper. twitter.com/LucaFornaro3/s…

5. So a bit of a mixed bag, but we are a long way from the "Roaring Twenties" meme of a couple of months back. Policy implications? Mmm, that's another column, I think.
4. But both economists also raised red flags: school closures could prevent parents returning to work; rising case # could hit consumer/biz confidence; Delta so contagious it "could go from zero to sixty really quick."
3. @IanShepherdson also pointed out that spending and mobility have held up pretty well in the U.K. despite a big wave of infections.
2. The economists' message was somewhat reassuring: both of them expect GDP and employment to grow pretty strongly in the second half of this year despite rising cases.
