Like everyone else, Messi will have been seriously impressed by @benbreo at Copa America, so its fairly obvious where he is heading. I’m sure he’ll do a decent job for us until @BradDacks40 is fit again…
This is absolutely devastating. For anglers it must be extremely distressing and for all of us who value the biodiversity of the River Kent we should be rightly outraged. The perpetrators must pay a very high penalty - the Environment Agency need to throw the book at them. twitter.com/SavNJourno/sta…
The Government must change planning law so that local councils have the power to stop this - sign our petition today: southlakeslibdems.org.uk/secondhomes
From Cumbria to Cornwall, we are seeing a deeply worrying trend in rural areas of local families being forced out of private rented accommodation because their landlord wants to turn it into a holiday let on Airbnb. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9…

Interesting. In the last 24 hours I made a bad joke about Latin and also wrote an article urging greater compassion towards refugees…. And got significantly more stick for the Latin gag. Maybe this country isn’t so bad after all…?

Hmm. It’s elite because only people who are guaranteed successful careers thanks to family connections, can afford to waste time on a subject whose only practical application is in understanding some of the dialogue in Asterix books… telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/07/3…
Football shirts are a rip off… or maybe not…? Just hanging out some washing and this one turns out to have been great value. I bought it for my little brother 25 or so years ago, he handed it on to my son who still wears it.
I remember this so well. The email from a friend in the know saying he’d gone. I am now over it, and have fully rehabilitated Shearer in my own heart and mind. An absolute @Rovers hero who won his only title with us. But this broke my heart. It really felt like a bereavement. twitter.com/alanshearer/st…

We all know it can be so difficult to talk openly about our mental health. So when someone is brave enough to admit they’re struggling with their mental health, it’s really important that we support them. In rural places across the UK, the explosion in second homes and holiday lets is robbing families of a home of their own. Sign our petition to call on the Government to change planning law to give local councils the power to decide when enough is enough southlakeslibdems.org.uk/secondhomesZ
Many hospitality businesses who have fought tooth and nail through lockdown to stay afloat now find themselves torpedoed by staff shortages caused by stupid Government visa rules. The Government must extend the Youth Mobility Scheme to European countries. yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/c…
Whenever you’re tempted to drop litter or leave rubbish behind, think about the effect it will have on this landscape. It’s beautiful here…let’s keep it that way. If bins are full, take rubbish home with you.  Be #LakeDistrictKind #RespectProtectEnjoy bit.ly/3BsJOyn

Interesting to note the bile I got last night from one trench in the culture war when I said that SJ’s reference to ‘cowering’ was disgraceful… and then to see the bile I now get from the other trench because I said we should accept his apology and forgive.
Lots of noise on here about how to react to SJ’s apology. A Christian perspective: Col 3:13 ‘..forgive as the Lord forgave you’. If we forgive in the same way God forgives us, then it will be utterly comprehensive, personally costly and we will do it with gladness.
I’m seriously impressed by this. Respect is due. Let’s move on. twitter.com/sajidjavid/sta…
I don’t think my constituents who have made huge sacrifices to keep us all safe, will be over the moon that the new health Secretary thinks that they are all a bunch of wusses… twitter.com/sajidjavid/sta…
One of those good days… started with a busy surgery, then canvassing for the wonderful @fionamusiclakes in sunny Allithwaite, then a 7.5 mile run via Fairy Steps and finally I got to join the @KTorchlightC team at the Kendal Youth Zone. Time for a beer.
This is such a good interview. Best/most heartbreaking bit: “So I end up skipping the stage where I actually make the record. I write it and move on.” How many unreleased Prefab albums are there sat on Paddy’s hard drive?? twitter.com/ClassicPopMag/…
I was 8 years old. Half the family were PNE, half were Rovers. What made me a Rover? 1) the Rovers half of the family went to games, 2) this really is the classiest football kit on Planet Earth. twitter.com/j_macca7/statu…
Cheers to all who joined me on Day 4 of my summer tour in Levens, Witherslack, Lindale, Grange-over-Sands, Allithwaite, Flookburgh, Cark and Cartmel. Lots of great conversations about buses, covid, unitary authorities, traffic and second homes.

As a carer, I know it can be incredibly rewarding but also incredibly difficult. Our nation depends on the hard work of unpaid carers up and down the country. The government must do far more to support them.

Businesses have fought and struggled to survive during the past 16 months of the pandemic, only to now face a devastating staffing crisis created by barmy, impractical and stupid Government visa rules. The Government must introduce a youth mobility visa to save local businesses.
There had been some pressure on the CCG to close the surgery and disperse the patients lists to other surgeries in the South Lakes, so I’m really grateful that they’ve listened to local residents, local councillors and myself and have secured the future of Goodly Dale. (3/3)

Who tweets infantile guff like this? Good grief! All 12 of us voted against this bill.
