In between a developed campground and the backcountry lies the “slackcountry”—primitive campsites that lie a mile or two beyond trailhead parking lots. Read more here:…
Investments of this size & scope weren’t imaginable a few years ago & are only possible now because the growing strength of our movement changed the political landscape. Together, we'll continue building an intersectional movement toward the healthy & safe future we all deserve.
We know this is far from the end of our call for climate action, but merely a significant beginning of real progress toward the healthy and safe future each of us deserves.
Of course, we cannot celebrate this moment with unabated joy. It is unacceptable that oil and gas leasing provisions in the bill will be tied to clean energy development, especially threatening frontline communities.
This weekend we hope you can rest, recharge, & celebrate the people-powered movement that made passing the Inflation Reduction Act possible. This bill makes significant investments in: 🌍climate ⚖️environmental justice ☀️clean energy 👩🏾‍🏭jobs Yet it's far from perfect (threaDyjN
Celebrating the #IRA House passage today - a major people-powered step for climate, jobs, and justice!…
We will keep fighting on behalf of all communities across the country struggling with rising prices, climate-fueled disasters, and systemic injustice. The IRA is not the end of our call for climate action, but a beginning of real progress toward a healthy and safe future for all.
The Sierra Club will continue to support Black, Indigenous, low-income, and communities of color that are disproportionately affected by oil & gas development. We will demand equitable implementation of the IRA, making sure communities most directly affected are prioritized.
We can't celebrate with unabated joy. It is unacceptable that oil & gas leasing provisions in the bill will be tied to clean energy development, threatening frontline communities. Sacrifice zones are a direct product of racism and classism, and have no place in a climate bill.
These transformational investments have been secured thanks to this people-powered movement—everyone who called or met with their members of Congress, posted on social media, wrote a letter to the editor, attended a rally or protest, donated, or talked to their friends & family.
The road to passage of these investments has been long and rocky. The Sierra Club extends gratitude to all our Congressional champs who helped steer it to its destination — those who advocated for this bill, negotiated this bill, and voted for this bill.
After decades of working tirelessly to get these climate, jobs, & justice investments passed by Congress, & after decades of dedicated campaigning by a movement of movements, we have finally scored a critical victory. -@SierraClub Pres. @RamonCruzDiaz #IRA…

Thanks to all of the young people & environmental activists, who for so long, had no hope that this body would do anything. They deserve credit for the $369 billion climate investment in the Inflation Reduction Act. It's only a down payment & we'll keep fighting for more.

Submit a public comment today for stronger particulate matter standards for cleaner air!
It's time for Pres. Biden's EPA — led by @EPAMichaelRegan — to update these pollution limits to the strongest science-based standards, to ensure cleaner air for families, advance environmental justice, and protect public health and the climate.
Current standards for deadly & dangerous particulate matter pollution (aka soot), set by @EPA, are outdated & insufficient. #soot #AirPollution #cleanair
