According to new research from the Centre for Care at @sheffielduni, around 12,000 people become unpaid carers every day in the UK. On #CarersRightsDay charity @CarersUK is calling for change in the way that unpaid carers are identified and supported.
Industrial action takes place at universities across the country, including Sheffield, from tomorrow. The University will remain open throughout the strike dates and most teaching will go ahead as usual, but some classes may be affected. Find out more👇

"Until now this region of the inner ear has been inaccessible in humans" - Marcelo Rivolta, Professor of Sensory Stem Cell Biology Researchers have discovered a secure pathway to the inner ear, which will allow regenerative therapies to restore hearing.

Our Global Campus programme provides free events for all students, with opportunities to make friends and socialise in warm spaces. For students that live in University accommodation, Residence Life also offers regular, free events. (7/8)
We are also freezing all the 2021/22 pricing in all our cafes and bars across campus and in the residences until the end of July 2023. @SheffieldSU also has a range of offers and discounts across its food and drink outlets. (6/8)
On campus, our libraries offer free access to books and welcoming study spaces. Laptops, PCs, or creative media equipment for digital media projects can be borrowed free of charge. (5/8)
For staff, we recently announced an additional payment of £1,000 to all employees, with casual workers and graduate teaching assistants being provided with the equivalent increase in their hourly rate of pay between October 2022 and July 2023. (4/8)
In addition, we have: - increased the funding for postgraduate students by 10% - provided an additional grant of £150 to help students participate in extracurricular activities - increased bursaries for students from less privileged backgrounds by 10% (3/8)
All eligible students can apply for our £3 million financial support to assist with unforeseen costs, such as unpaid placement costs, employability-related costs, graduation costs, IT equipment, and living costs. We can also provide emergency food vouchers. (2/8)

We are saddened by the news that @sheffielduni alumnus Jamshed J Irani has passed away. Irani, who retired from the board of Tata Steel in 2011, graduated from Sheffield in 1960 and was awarded an Honorary Degree in 1993.
