It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Fred Martinez a few days ago . Fred was always upbeat and happy, advocating for affordable, quality healthcare and generally an enthusiastic cheerleader for St Charles Parish and the NOLA region. He will be missed.
His rise from very humble beginnings to the highest office in our state, attest to his skill, intelligence and charisma. We are grateful for his many positive contributions to our state.
Edwin Edwards was a gifted and talented politician who advanced the cause of racial and social justice in Louisiana at pivotal moments in our history.
I know this is only the beginning for the aptly named Zalia Avant-garde. (3/3)
Louisiana and America. Though she is only 14, Zalia is already an extremely decorated and accomplished young woman. Her excellence is something all young Americans can look up to and model themselves after. She has already achieved so much, but somehow (2/3)
Congratulations to Zalia Avant-garde for her historic triumph at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is the first Black American to win the bee and we are all so proud that she is a Louisiana native. Young people like her represent the best of (1/3)

(2/2) How refreshing to hear a bold, compassionate and generous leader lay out a detailed plan to honor and rebuild the middle class and create millions of high paying jobs through infrastructure investments. I agree with him that we can do this and Congress needs to act now.
(1/2) President Biden was inspiring and reassuring tonight in his strategic message to move our country forward.

Do we really want to maintain a massive fence around our Capitol to permanently serve as a type of monument to this colossally failed attempt to subvert our democracy? We should say emphatically no, @SenLandrieu writes wapo.st/2NsQIPX

The Capitol is more than a building it is a symbol of our democracy. In the words of @SenLandrieu, "this barricade is not a sign of strength; it is a sign of weakness. It is not a sign of protection and hope; it is a sign of division and despair." washingtonpost.com/opinions/local…

This coastal cornerstone project is designed by engineers, but it is modeled on nature itself and backed by sound science. It is a significant milestone in our decades long journey to save our coast and our unique Louisiana way of life. nola.com/news/business/…
Happy news, Alicia is back at work and on the mend. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support.
(2/2) Tanner’s years of experience in public policy regarding coastal restoration and adaptation and his knowledge of public lands and energy transitions issues will be a welcomed addition to our well respected and established practice in these areas.
(1/2) So happy and excited to welcome Tanner Johnson, lawyer from Baton Rouge and former Landrieu Senate Staffer, to @VanNessFeldman.
This last Sunday @lisamurkowski rose to the occasion and cast an extremely courageous vote and perhaps the most courageous of all given the timing of her re-election. I know that her family is proud of her, as are many admirers and supporters in Alaska and around the country.
(5/5) They have failed to meet this historical moment entrusted to them by condoning the reckless behavior of former President Trump and therefore inviting a future president to do the same or worse. They have put our Democracy at great risk. For this they will be remembered.
(4/5) Sadly, our Senator John Neely Kennedy, along with 42 of his colleagues, have disgraced themselves by failing to put truth and country before their party.
(3/5) If organizing a mob, inciting it and then standing by while Vice President Pence and members of Congress were threatened by that same mob is not an impeachable offense, then nothing is.
(2/5) ...in an attempt to overturn the results of that election. This mob violence tragically resulted in multiple deaths, injuries and the defacement of sacred public spaces in our nation’s Capitol.
(1/5) Rep. Jamie Raskin and other House managers presented clear, chilling and overwhelming evidence that former President Donald Trump planted a big lie about the election being rigged and stolen from him, then incited a violent attack on the US Capitol on January 6th...
(2/2) He met the standard of a true patriot that this historic moment required. Many millions of Americans are sincerely grateful.
(1/2) Today, Senator Bill Cassidy distinguished himself in an extraordinary demonstration of political courage. He opened his eyes to the evidence and his heart to the precious values and aspirations of our country.
(2/2) I am pleased to see that Senator Cassidy has used both his intellect and his good common sense to guide him here. Many people in Louisiana are proud of him, including me.
(1/2) The overwhelming number of constitutional scholars agree and common sense would dictate that no president should be given a "January pass" on engaging in corrupt or criminal behavior.
(2/2) He stayed active and involved in making things better wherever he was and his presence and happy spirit will be missed by all of us that knew and admired him.
(1/2) I was saddened to learn this morning about the plane accident that took Rock Palermo’s life. Rock was full of energy and love for his community.
(2/2) His voice and leadership will be missed. Steve brought joy and good humor to his public service work and I join hundreds of his friends today to remember his many important contributions to our state.
