Glenn Kolomeitz, ex-ADF officer turned lawyer, told @RNBreakfast “There’s a breakdown in communication, not just between the ADF and DFAT, but between DFAT and DFAT, Canberra and Kabul and that is going to cost lives.” Surely the Government can fix this. theguardian.com/australia-news…
Good luck to all our athletes competing at the @Tokyo2020 @Paralympics, including those who are representing the green and gold for the first time. Tune into the Opening Ceremony at 9pm (AEST) tonight and follow our athletes here: paralympic.org.au/athletes/. #ReadySetTokyo
Three years of Scott Morrison making promises and not delivering. Of blame shifting and never taking responsibility. Of failures and rorts. Of 'I don't hold a hose', 'it's a matter for the states', 'the ministers make the decisions'. Of Australians paying the price.
Disturbing reports that Dr Jamal Rifi – who has promoted cohesion in our community and is part of a multi-faith initiative giving medical aid to Palestinians – has been sentenced in absentia to 10 years’ jail in Lebanon. We have sought an urgent update from the Government.
3 years of blame-shifting. 3 years of avoiding responsibility. 3 years of mistakes. 3 years of Morrison. #auspol

It's been three long years of hiding, buck-passing and spinning from this Prime Minister.

Here’s my full speech on Afghanistan: youtube.com/watch?v=dITr0Y…
Mr Morrison now deflects to the wisdom of “hindsight.” Instead, he should understand the consequences of willful blindness for the Afghans who have helped Australia and are being left behind.
The events in Afghanistan have been devastating for the Afghan people, dangerous for Australians who remain in Afghanistan, traumatic for veterans of the conflict, and terrifying for Australians with relatives back in Afghanistan. My speech today in Parliament.

In May, guards were told they couldn't apply for Locally Engaged Staff visas because of their employment status – after media inquiries that was overturned. Now it’s happened again. I'm glad they finally have visas, but surely they deserve better than this last minute confusion
These are guards who kept Australians at our Embassy safe. The threat against them is clear. So why does the Morrison-Joyce Government keep flip-flopping on ensuring they can get to safety? theguardian.com/australia-news…
This is a win for Barnaby Joyce who rolled Marise Payne in Cabinet to win the Ag Visa. This will massively undermine the Pacific Seasonal Workers Program & thereby the Pacific Step Up. The Nationals have put their political interests ahead of our national interest, yet again. twitter.com/d_littleproudm…

Mr Morrison hasn't seen a problem that isn't somebody else's fault, or a crisis that isn't someone else's responsibility to solve I don't hold a hose mate. That's a matter for the states. Too little, too late. 🇦🇺 deserve better from their Prime Minister, one that i#OnYourSidedmk

ICYMI: thank you for sharing this @AlboMP. Our hearts go out to the Ibrahim family and everyone who has lost loved ones in this pandemic. twitter.com/AlboMP/status/…
Mr Morrison brushes off his failures on the vaccine rollout and in Afghanistan by saying people can be “wise in hindsight”. In both cases wise people - the experts, our veterans - were telling him to act sooner. He refused to listen and now he’s refusing to take responsibility. twitter.com/insidersabc/st…
Last month the US was moving to evacuate thousands of local staff, interpreters and their families from Afghanistan. The Morrison-Joyce Government didn’t want a part of it. We have an obligation to help all of those who helped Australia. Why was it left so late?
Leadership is about stepping up to responsibility. Mr Morrison’s three years as Prime Minister have been characterised by inaction and inertia. anthonyalbanese.com.au/media-centre/p…

. @ABarrMLA “More than half our cases are in young people, many of whom do not have access to a vaccine. This has not yet firmly featured in terms of the national cabinet discussion about when it is safe to reopen.” OMG what a mess. Makes me so angry. twitter.com/murpharoo/stat…

When a Labor state govt locked down last year Frydenberg called it: “the biggest public policy failure by a State government in living memory” Today asked about a Liberal state govt lockdown after a disastrous delay: “No-one is perfect”. As @SenKatyG says, her family’s situation is like thousands of others around the country & many parents will be sharing her anguish & frustration. It’s deeply distressing how exposed Australia’s children are because of Mr Morrison’s failures on vaccines.
Under this Liberal National Government: -Wages were weak for years before COVID-19 -Wages are weak during the pandemic -Real wages are expected to go backwards over the next four years It’s not “good economic management” if Australians who work hard can’t get ahead. #auspol

Thank you to the ADF personnel and Australian officials working to evacuate our citizens and visa holders from Afghanistan. They never shirk responsibility or lack courage when called upon. Joint statement with @AlboMP & @BOConnorMP:

Receiving lots of messages today from Aussies who are either trapped in Afghanistan or have family & friends in danger. Not good enough for Morrison to say "we wish it were different" after sitting on his hands for months. Every effort needed to save them. 7news.com.au/news/conflict/…

Mr Morrison says “on the ground” events have overtaken efforts to get all the Afghans who helped Australia - and their families - to safety. But these events could have been foreseen. As the former CDF, Admiral Chris Barrie told the ABC, we’ve had months to act.
More than 250 ADF personnel are being deployed on a rescue mission following the Taliban's takeover of Kabul. "We support this mission, the efforts to evacuate people from Afghanistan but I have to say, I fear it is too little, too late." - @SenatorWong, Shadow Foreign Minister

Just gutless. If Mr Morrison were a leader, Senator Canavan would be gone. theage.com.au/politics/feder… smh.com.au/politics/feder…
The situation faced by Afghans who helped Australia - and faced by their families - represents an ethical failure but also a national security failure. We must make clear to the world if you help Australia, we will help you.
Former CDF, Admiral Chris Barrie: “now we find the very ugly truth that we've just left it far too late… I don't know why we suddenly found ourselves so caught out & unprepared to do the work." “For all of those people who helped us - God help them." abc.net.au/news/2021-08-1…
Mr Morrison can’t attack @GladysB for not locking down NSW sooner. He was the one telling her not to lock down Sydney in June. We all know someone like him. Takes credit for your work when it’s going well – throws you under the bus if it turns bad. news.com.au/national/polit…
This is a heartbreaking day for Afghanistan.

For Matt Canavan, no depth is too low, in his desperate need for attention. Today’s intervention is hurtful & offensive to veterans & the Afghan community. Scott Morrison should kick him out of the Morrison-Joyce Govt. It’s time our PM took some responsibility.

Behind on: rescues in Afghanistan; climate action; vaccine procurement; state lockdowns; sectoral assistance. Is this intransigence in fact the defining feature of conservative governments in Aust - clear responsibilities made harder & more costly through pointless wilful delays?

A REMINDER: this is the PM on June 24 when the Bondi cluster hit 36 with 11 new cases & epidemiologists were calling for hard lockdown. "My fellow Sydneysiders can feel very confident that if anyone can get on top of this without shutting the city down it is the NSW government."

The Morrison Government is incapable of acting fast on anything.   Still no clarity on whether they’ll get Afghans who helped Australia, and their families, to safety.   Other countries have been evacuating Afghan supporters for weeks.   Dithering is risking our friends’ lives.

This is a time for leadership. It’s not the time to indulge extreme views that are a danger to public health.
Australians are exhausted and they’re looking for some light at the end of this tunnel. But Scott Morrison’s failure on vaccines and quarantine mean things right now are getting worse, not better.

Barnaby Joyce isn't even trying to hide his priorities. It's politics over public health.
