I am reminded of the old saying: The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Democrats want to spend more than they collect, while Republicans want to collect less than they spend. š
Another interesting fact for today: None of Arizonaās top elected positions will be held by a Baby Boomer. Tom Horne is close, but was born in 1945. Gov Hobbs born in 1969, and the others in the 70ās.
Arizonaās elected officials take office today. A bit of trivia: If my research is correct, this is the first time in AZ history the top 3 state offices(Gov, AG, SofS) will be held by AZ natives In fact, of the 6 state offices, only Tom Horne is not a native of AZ).
Iām confused: Lots of photos of unclaimed baggage on an airport turnstile from SWA flights. So, how did the bags get there if flights cancelled and no passengers arrived? š¤
For those outside of AZ, last night was a snippet of my lifelong trials as a Phoenix sports fan: in a matter of minutes, both the Cardinals and Suns gave up late 4th qtr leads to lose in overtime, taking us fans on another emotional roller coaster! š
Just imagine the 2024 AZ Senate race with Progressive Ruben Gallego on the Dem side, a MAGA Republican, and Kyrsten Sinema. What a ride it will be! Hand me some popcorn! āŗļø
Arizona GOP created and perfected Early Voting as a machine for maxing Rep voter turnout. Won tons of elections with that strategy. Theyāve now destroyed that advantage with unproven claims of fraud. One of the dumbest political moves ever! š
With Pres Biden visiting TSMC plant tomorrow, a reminder that this project doesnāt happen w/o Prop 400 funded Loop 303 and I-17 improvements. And that @DougDucey vetoed bill allowing Prop 400 extension. š
What the whiners and screamers, mostly Republican, donāt tell you is that every step of voting process has Rep and Dem observers involved. Watching. Participating. But letās keep the fraud lie going. š
Depositing my ballot in the same secure drop box Iāve used for years. Never had a problem. Looking forward to confirmation from Maricopa Cty elections dept in a couple of days!
I have yet to hear a convincing argument for why student loan debt should be wiped out, or even reduced. Not a single one. I guess we are all suckers. š
Serious question for my LE and crim def atty friends: I thought police followed details of search warrants and collected only items covered by warrant. Why, then would trained FBI agents grab passports, which have nothing to do with warrant? And, what else did they take?
Iām sittingā in a padded chair on the back patio. Thereās a steady rain that sounds and smells wonderful. Itās a cool 74 degrees. In July. In Mesa AZ. And itās real! Iām not dreaming! āŗļø
Stalwarts of conservatism who are RINOās in todayās AZ GOP:
Ronald Reagan
Barry Goldwater
John McCain (a given)
John Rhodes
Stan Turley
Jake Flake
Paul Fannin
And basically any other Republican who built the party in AZ.
Oh yeahā¦.and me! Proud to be part of such a group!
I am honored to announce the endorsement of former Vice President @Mike_Pence.
He has been a warrior for the sanctity of Life; limited government; law & order; opportunity for all; & the knowledge that our freedoms are granted by God.
Iām proud to have him on my team. #AZgov
Much of the allure of college sports for fans are the conference and regional rivalries built through years of familiarity. It will be interesting to see if these āsuper conferencesā with 20+ members will dilute the product and lessen fan engagement. š¤
Gotta give some kudos to AZ Leg: Donāt know all the details, but approved state budget uses chunks of surplus to increase funding for both roads and Ed! Well done!
Just finished 4K mile road trip across 7 states and Alberta. Great time, but was shocked at how bad AZ roads are compared to others. By far, we are worst. Itās embarrassing! Every AZ road I drove needs serious repairs. AZ Leg has underfunded ADOT for years. Spend the surplus!
Questions for Buffalo: 1. With 13 seconds, how do you NOT squib the kickoff and take time off clock? 2. How do you NOT check Kelse at the line and let him run free up the field to set up FG?
Random thought after turning off Cards game:If AZ Leg eliminates early mail voting, Iād bet the 80% of voters who love and use mail ballots will revolt, the bill will be referendummed (new verb) and will go down to defeat, ironically with 80% of votes cast by mail.
Checking out progress on the Northwest Light Rail Extension in Phoenix. This is the future station at the former Metrocenter Mall. Very exciting! #ValleyMetro#NWEII
Casey Kasim introduced one song by saying āIf youāve watched this man work, you know heāll be around for a long, long timeā¦ā¦.hereās Jim Croceā¦ā Jim died in a plane crash almost a year later to the day. š³
Each Saturday, I get my 70ās nostalgia fix listening to replays of AT40 on #SiriusXM. Today, the top 40 was from the week of Sep 16, 1972. As I was listening, I heard something sort of eerie.
I have informed the Valley Metro Boards that after 5 1/2 years as CEO, I'll be retiring in the next year. It's been a wonderfully crazy ride, but it's a good time to move on to the next adventure....whatever that might be.
I knew it was too good to be true! The Phx Suns playoff curse lives! Ced Ceballos, Danny Manning, Joe Johnson, Boris Diawā¦..and now Chris Paul! All critical knocked out via injury, etc during playoff run. Itās tough being a Suns fan! š
For me, it was never a question of if, but when Downtown Mesa would experience a Renaissance. Itās fun watching the progress!

The great real estate reset: Rethinking how and what we build brook.gs/2YC2fOL via @BrookingsInst. Looking forward to participating on this Brookings panel tomorrow at noon MST.
I know this sounds weird, but thank you Dave Koz, Jonathan Butler and Friends for bringing some wonderful Christmas spirit to this challenging year through your live streamed concert! @DaveKozMusic
With this in mind, Iād like to recognize and celebrate the men and women in our transit operations who have shown up from day one of the crisis at great personal risk to provide uninterrupted bus, rail and paratransit services to the community. You are all heroes in my mind.
Thereās a whole lot of debate about schools and other govt services should be open, and who should and who shouldnāt be putting themselves at risk working during this COVID crisis.
Freight train derailment and fire over Salt River in Tempe, AZ. We have light rail bridge adjacent that so far has not been damaged, but service is suspended. Thank heavens no injuries.
Last week we celebrated the activation of 3500 new solar canopies at our Mesa Bus Operations & Maintenance Facility! These panels will save on energy and fuel costs- another step towards creating a more #sustainable system for generations to come.
