I'm contributing a chapter to a forthcoming book, "#Higher Ed For Good." I'm writing about the experience of laboring/learning under austerity and alternatives to scarcity-based organizational models. I am seeking stories from faculty & staff: forms.gle/Szd595szncrLiY… (1/n)
Yeah. No. Let’s stop feeding the “elite university fetish”. There are 1000s of amazing colleges and universities that will lead you to your path. And you may end up the boss of some of those elite alums. Just saying. twitter.com/wsj/status/151…
Formerly incarcerated students of color at UCSB were kicked out of their PHD sociology program after white professors *demanded they meet once every month with the police dept* & of course they refused to comply with this racist policy. Found here: vm.tiktok.com/ZTd4afWsC/

“Policy makers popularized a belief about affluent college students taking advantage of public benefits in an attempt to re-privatize the costs of pursuing a
higher education and to curtail the reach of public assistance programs.”
Reminder: Reagan looms large even now in higher ed policy.
This article reminds us that in addition to the welfare queen trope, he also spoke of a “young lady…who on the basis of being a student is getting food stamps,

@saragoldrickrab As a society we don’t care about children in any meaningful way. We let them get slaughtered in schools by gun violence. We underpay teachers. We risk them to communicable disease. We cut SNAP and WIC. Children do not matter. I wish it was different. But this is who we are.
(Some) Profs: STOP requiring students to submit an obituary or funeral program as “documentation” if they miss class due to a death in the family 🤦🏽♀️

Opponents of canceling college debt say it'll hurt the economy—but the opposite is true, says @JohnBKing. "This is an opportunity for us to grow our economy and to unleash the talent of folks that are trapped because they’re burdened by debt."
Within the CSU system, Project Rebound students are particularly vulnerable to housing insecurity. Through a Michelson #SparkGrant, Project Rebound will support students by expanding its student-centered housing support model. hubs.li/Q018b6sd0
@jewelsfromjuana I am among Black sociologists who’ve told Black people FOR YEARS to stop using “code switch” & “imposter syndrome.”
Fellow Pan-Afrikan sociologist Dr. Du Bois gave us “double consciousness” more than a century ago & too many Black people only know terms presented by white people
