That's it. Off to read lots, eat well, drink some, and walk the dogs. See you at the tail end of August. Someone text me if there's, y'know, a world war or an incoming asteroid. Or a pandemic... 😘
You heard right from @rickoshea I will be covering a lot of his leave from Daytime Gold on @RTEGold over the next few weeks. Join me Tuesday morning from 10am

This. I'll say it again - they do *amazing* work and are responsible for us having our two boys (although they came from a very happy home!) Drop them a few quid. twitter.com/DublinSPCA/sta…

It has brilliant stories from @junecaldwell, Kevin Barry, Roddy Doyle, @LisaTheHeretic, Danielle McLoughlin, @ClaireAllan and even the late Lyra McKee. And 16 fantastic stories from emerging working-class writers I think you'll love. Pop in, read along: facebook.com/groups/therick…
Book Of The Month for August over in the @ROSBookClub for August is - The 32 - An Anthology Of Irish Working-Class Voices, edited by @paul_mc_veigh. I think it's that important. (1/2)

So, until 1 anyway, it's my last All Request Friday on @RTEGold for a few weeks. Requests here in the form of a GIF, please and thanking you 😎 Listen live on your smart speaker, TV, every radio app,@SAORVIEWW, or on our brand new website -gold.rte.ietM
Don't take this as an attack(some do, believe it or not), but if you feel in any way like the way I have described above, maybe give it a try. Delete all the apps, turn off the notifications (I never have mine on), stick your phone somewhere you can't see it. You might like it.
If you never feel the tug, fair play. You are better than most of us. I'll read, eat, drink, travel, spend time with people I love, rest. I won't have missed anything. Everything will be the same when I get back to work. My head will have decompressed. It's lovely.
But honestly? I leave social for a few weeks because then I can enjoy my holiday without the tug. You know the tug. The one that pulls at you every hour, minute, few seconds* you're near your phone and compels you to "just see" if you missed anything. *delete as applicable
Yup, last day online for a few weeks (as has been the fashion with me the last few years). There comes a point in every year when I benefit from not knowing anything about who is an idiot or was nasty to who or rows or hassles or any of this... For a few weeks anyway.

And that's before they start work on the 1,123 apartments, a 148-bedroom hotel and commercial units at Southwest Gate on the Naas Road (around the Kylemore stop). Sure be grand... irishtimes.com/business/const…
Since then? Huge apartment development almost done on Davitt Road, PP for another at Blackhorse, and this: echo.ie/188-build-to-r… All right next to the same LUAS. New amenities being built? Eh, nope.
For everyone saying "sure don't you have the LUAS?", a few thoughts. First one is that it doesn't cover Ballyfermot at all, parts of Inchicore are 1 - 1.5 km from it. Leaving that aside. Prior to Mar 2020 they were frequently full during morning rush hour by Blackhorse...
A last-minute cancellation means our Chef's Table is available this Saturday. Seats 4 to 6 people. Book online or call 01 873 2266.

It has just been pointed out to me that I started the @ROSBookClub SEVEN YEARS AGO today. Jesus... 37,092 members and rising... Knock in if you like talking books - facebook.com/groups/therick…
Still thinking about this today. On one side, 3 stations gets you from Heuston to Celbridge. On the other, 3 stations doesn't even cover the length of the Park... twitter.com/rickoshea/stat…
I watched my first episode of 30 Rock last night. Carry on.
Christ. There'll be tech billionaires buying up half of Mayo now... irishtimes.com/life-and-style…

I am *so* close to logging out of my social media and e-mail and deleting my Insta app from my phone for a few weeks that I can *taste* it. I do it every year for holidays and I have never once regretted it. Trick this year will be how little I can look at news...
Live on @RTEGold until 1. Fleetwood Mac, Alanis, Stevie, The Killers, Hozier, Them, and, yeah, some ZZ Top too.. Listen live on your smart speaker, TV, every radio app, @SAORVIEW, gold.rte.ie or, y'know...
Before I flood your timeline with (mostly) nice things today, consider this. Not half lost their jobs, half considered actually abandoning *who they are* and what they do: rte.ie/news/ireland/2…
Going to a Steven Seagal Buddhism retreat, climbing a mountain on Xmas Day, even searching for The Loch Ness Monster, all from a man who readily admits that he hated leaving Manhattan... The Christmas Freud essay is the best. Just bloody amazing. (Thanks @ravenbooks!) (2/2)

Just a thought. I fell into stoicism as a way of living a very long time ago. Am I that way all the time? Of course not. But I try, and it helps in pretty much every situation. Have a look... twitter.com/dailystoic/sta…
