“They are feeling pressure around what will the future look like for me? How will I transition into future work or into employment?” says Ashley de Silva, CEO of ReachOut Australia.
“Sleep loss is a worrying issue, according to digital youth mental health service provider ReachOut Australia. The organisation recently surveyed 600 young people aged 16-25 across Australia, and the results are revealing.”
“Across Australia, 1.7 million students are facing their final year exams. Many are struggling with study stress, and new research shows 73 per cent of young people surveyed are also losing sleep. It’s a rapidly growing problem with potentially serious health impacts.”
The @NMHC wants to hear from young people + their experiences with the mental health system through an online webinar. This will inform the next steps in mental health + suicide prevention systems reform. Share with your community + register to attend:

Our refreshed visual identity leverages a digital-first colour palette and the graphic language of digital interfaces, with elements such as chat bubbles, emojis and conversation threads, to reflect the way young people communicate today. Experience it at:
We’ve undertaken extensive qualitative and quantitative research to ensure that the new brand engages our audience in a nuanced way. Our new tagline ‘helping young people feel better’ focuses on a positive approach to #MentalHealth and the gradual outcomes we’re able to support.
Our new brand identity follows 20 years of experience providing digital #MentalHealthSupport and 10 years of peer support through our Online Community. We’re evolving to better reflect the lives and experiences of young people today and showcase the breadth of our services.
We’re proud to be leading the way locally in the provision of digital peer support through PeerChat, and in growing the emerging peer workforce in Australia. Young people can access free and anonymous peer support at
A peer worker is someone who has their own journey with mental health and life challenges and is trained to use that experience to support others. The @NMHC backs #PeerSupport as essential work that has tangible benefits for young people and the broader mental health system.
Young people may be hesitant to access counselling and clinical support for #MentalHealth as they find it confronting and overwhelming. They may also be prevented by high costs and wait times. Peer support offers a safe alternative that’s convenient and accessible.
The focus is on strengths, hope and recovery. Peer workers also provide a bridge to other services where needed. PeerChat was developed with support from the Federal Gov (@healthgovau), philanthropic donors and corporate partners. Check it out:
Through PeerChat, a young person connects with a trained #PeerSupport worker via anonymous, online chat for free. Sessions are 45 mins with the young person guiding the conversation and the peer worker offering thoughts and learnings from their own experience.
Three things that young people told us when co-designing our newly launched service PeerChat: they’re comfortable in digital environments, they want the option of non-clinical support and they want to access it at short notice.
Our new brand, complete with overhauled visual identity and brand positioning strategy, reflects the evolution of our service and will help us to reach more of the people who we can make the biggest difference to. Check out the refreshed site here:
PeerChat is an online one-to-one chat service for 18–25 year olds. It connects a young person to a trained peer worker who can offer support and learnings from their own mental health journeys. Sessions are free, anonymous and available at short notice.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Today we’re launching a new online service and brand identity because we know that fifty per cent of young people turn to the internet for help when they’re going through a tough time.
Join @ReachOut_AUS next Tuesday at 11am to hear about their innovative new one-to-one youth mental health service PeerChat & the important role that peer work can play in meeting the needs of young help-seekers. Register at… #yp #Mentalhealth #peerwork
