My name is Alex and I am a final year medical student. I am the first in my family to do to Uni. My bursary does not even cover my rent. I have worked 4/6 years of my time at medical school. Sometimes working 30 hour weeks with 9-5 placement Mon-Fri. #LiveableNHSbursary (1/?)

A brilliant piece on #childcare crisis, by @pollytoynbee⁩. ⁦”Some state-maintained nurseries have survived, the highest-quality beacons of nursery education…” Fernbank & ⁦@SaveHillsideN16⁩ are 2 of them, why we are fighting so hard to save them! theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

As they search for ideas for "cost free" ways of reducing cost of living pressures on families, the cabinet alights on nursery staff cuts: @pollytoynbee spot on, on the "everyday brutalism" informing Tory family policy. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

NHS England’s “plan” for extended GP opening hours: The same number of staff offering the same number of appointments but offering them over a longer period at a higher cost per appointment. How is this going to improve access to primary care services and health outcomes?

All solidarity to @AngelaRayner. Ridiculous to even think about printing that nonsense. Since women were elected to the Commons 100 years ago we have been undermined, belittled, and objectified. I think it is supposed to put us off. Of course it has the opposite effect.

Today, reasons to celebrateSt George's Day: it's Shakespeare's birthday, and right now on Radio 4 is a brilliant production of Macbeth, reminding us the BBC is the best of who we are and what we can do.
Happy St George’s Day. England’s patron saint was a migrant worker in what’s now Turkey so would be dumped by the UK Conservative Government in Rwanda if he sought security and refuge in the country. Plastic patriots, reactionaries and racists waving flags must be proud.

Just got home and watching @BBCNews and talking about party gate. I for one cannot forgive parties at number 10. My sister passed away when these parties were going on and I was not able to be with her.Sorry I can’t forgive these politicians for not following their own rules.

We’re calling for a new system that will allow all MPs to easily correct the record when they get things wrong. Such a system already exists in Scotland. By doing so MPs can take the first steps in rebuilding trust in politics. Our letter to MPs 👇 fullfact.org/blog/2022/apr/…E

They broke the law and are disgraced. Whatever they do now, shame will cling to Johnson and Sunak: Breaking the law and lying about it or misleading the house would have seen any other prime minister and chancellor resign instantly. ⁦@pollytoynbeetheguardian.com/commentisfree/…

From today the state pension has been cut both in real terms and compared to the triple lock promise. Under that it should have risen by 8.3% not 3.1% based on inflation last September. That decision cost old state pensioners £372 a year and new pensioners £486 this year.
