Unexpected news. Wondering though whether announcing Broadway theaters can reopen May 19 -- with no prospect of an actual Broadway show till early fall, perhaps -- does anything now but confuse most potential ticket buyers?…
Maybe come down to street level for your view of this troubled city?…
Anna D. Shapiro stepping down as Steppenwolf artistic director this summer when contract expires.
I am told Matchbox has moved to the site of former Austin Grill nearby. But I am nostalgic still for the H Street location because it was where my daughter first would eat a salad! (The long gone original Matchbox chopped.)…
Two Penn Quarter DC places I used to eat pre-theater (and -covid): Matchbox and Rosa Mexicano. Gone.
“Dr. Pollack-Pelzner also said that Dr. Davis had made a comment in 2018 about “measuring the size of Jewish noses” when the professor had mentioned that he was teaching ‘The Merchant of Venice’ “…

Hamilton Watch: Lin-Manuel just interviewed by Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News. It appears he’s growing his hair out again. One of first things he did after leaving role was cut his hair because, he said, he hated it long. So...? (Is this tweet a sign I am too theater deprived?)
I don’t understand this way of thinking anymore. But I wish you the best of health.…
Re: the CDC saying I don’t have to wear a mask all the time outdoors. But...with a mask I haven’t had a cold or the flu or even a runny nose in 14 months! Why would I give up my mask??
9.9 million viewers? Total? Diving precipitously toward Tony Awards territory.…
It’s worth noting that the characters played by both Hopkins and Boseman originated as stage roles. #TheaterFTW
Wow best picture before actor and actress.

The West Side Story trailer makes the new West Side Story look a lot like the old West Side Story.
*have* been filtered out
I like that the smug humor and superior tone has been filtered out of this year’s show. It’s the Oscars with humility.

Covid innovation No. 262: a bag for your mask while dining al fresco.
This just *just* in: SBA’s SVOG application portal for $16 billion in grants that was supposed to open early this month and crashed and then was announced to open tomorrow will now apparently open Monday and I don’t know whether this is an elaborate plan to drive arts people mad.

Chauvin convicted of murdering George Floyd; 133 million covid vaccinations; Trump pursued by the law. What a difference a year makes.
Actors Equity leaders Kate Shindle and Mary McColl issue statement, in part: “We hope that this verdict brings George Floyd’s loved ones a sense of justice. We also hope that this conviction carries forth the message that Black lives matter, and George Floyd’s life mattered...”
The speed of the verdict reflects both the overwhelming evidence and the degree to which people are just sick of the system not working.
Bail revoked. Derek Chauvin will not know freedom again for a long time

What in the hell is going on at the SBA? It has been 13 days since the application portal for the $16.1 billion in relief through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program crashed. This is money authorized back in DECEMBER to save our stages. It is an anguishing fail.
This morning. TSA confiscated my jar of orange marmalade. It came as a relief.
