Today the Baha’i community reminds us about the situation of Baha’is in Iran and the importance of challenging hateful propaganda against the community in the country. Also, an important reminder below. #StopHatePropaganda @GaryLineker @PennBadgley @UKBahaiOPA @USBahaiOPA twitter.com/UN/status/1203…

Today I’m joining people around the world for a campaign against hate speech. Members of the Bahá’í Faith in Iran are being targeted by hate propaganda being spread by media owned by their own government. #StopHatePropaganda

Dr. Joy DeGruy will have you learning, often between tears & laughter. Every Wednesday. This week: “The history of policing in America. In order for us to heal & remedy the problem we must first understand the root cause & properly diagnose the illness.” YouTube.com/DrJoyDeGruy
“You can’t solve a problem you aren’t willing to have.” To my white brothers & sisters— What’s the problem you see out there? I think, when we have the humility & courage to see it in ourselves, is when we start to change. And discover how to act. #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #BLM

This thread, the first-hand experience of a medical professional right now, is an eye-opener. Sobering & touching, especially the insights towards the end. I highly recommend. twitter.com/Craig_A_Spence…
Note: I should have said sooner that this policy was, only days later, reinstated. It felt like a cruel blow, and alas I am not on social media the way many are. It’s an indication that if you’re interested in anything I’m sharing...keep searching & educating yourself :)
Tonight 9pm EST (NY) / 11am AEDT (Melbourne) I’m having an impromptu convo w/ my friend @Anisekmusic on IG live, considering questions we have now & questions from listeners. God willing we come by any answers 🥴 Come find us~~
Is this video helpful for us now? Encouraging? I don’t believe anyone needs help finding a group to label as lethally ignorant. We excel at that, whether it’s accurate or not. But what responsibilities do we have that we can address constructively? Let’s focus on that. 4/4
We can resist that. We must. What will breed hope rather than desperation? A sense of purpose rather than overwhelm and apathy? I mean, there are real questions :) (3/4)
It’s a reflection of social norms helping COVID-19 to spread. There are vested corporate interests in keeping young people’s spectrum of concerns very narrow & self-centered. Having fun at all costs is a form of desperation in response to the materialism of our age. (2/4)
Things are accelerating so rapidly. Pay attention to data. Be smart, safe & please be merciful w/ each other *so* we can effectively educate. Encourage. I understood the validity of social distancing barely over a week ago. This vid is alarming, yes. But. Consider— (1/4) twitter.com/CBSNews/status…
The pandemic now reminds us we’re interconnected & interdependent. Our systems are in a mortal struggle to serve us & our planet. We need profound change at all levels. @UNEP is looking for youth 18-30 w/ big ideas & I’m narrating bc I’m too old. Apply: bit.ly/2IDLH0H
GREAT NEWS! The inhumane #RemainInMexico policy that turned away 60,000+ asylum seekers from the US border, exposing them to violence & potentially lethal conditions, has been BLOCKED. Steps, y’all. We’re making steps. This is a victory today. Check out @tahirihjustice for more twitter.com/tahirihjustice…
We’re about to go on the stage. Sorry for the wait. Technical difficulties! @asubahai #meaningfulconversations twitter.com/caitlinnnna/st…
Now that I think about it can we get a word on why the documentary hasnt been released yet? @questlove @TheDangelo can we expect to see it streaming ever?
His 2014 follow up “Black Messiah” is a legitimate work of art and I was thrilled to see an artist evolving. I love that record. And yet, it seems clear now, when “Voodoo” dropped in 2000, it was a millennium statement. Special forces behind that one.
This has been my sole favorite record, leagues beyond the rest, since I was old enough to understand it—about 15 years ago. @RussElevado gives us some BTS when he was engineering & mixing w/ @TheDangelo for his masterpiece “Voodoo”. I wait for the day it is eclipsed by anyone. twitter.com/nprmusic/statu…

2pm EST today on my Instagram live, talking to Layli Miller-Muro @tahirihjustice about the conditions at our border, where I recently made a trip with a delegation of immigration lawyers & advocates
All of this has been inspired by, and is most guided by, my friends & colleagues at @tahirihjustice who provide totally free legal and social services to women and children fleeing gender-based violence. Check them out for policy & historical context!
A serious examination of the history of racism in our country. Do we accept the labels given to others we don’t know? Are we learning for ourselves? I want to explore this & other questions tmrw on Instagram live. Look out for us!
El Paso, Texas - people detained on US soil face prison conditions, but they have no sentence. No timeline. There is no criminal penalty for entering the country—it’s a civil penalty. Very different, very technical, and disturbing implications. It begs the question Why? And...
I’ll talk about this tomorrow on Instagram live with a lawyer, advocate and friend who knows the ins and outs of immigration law. I suspect I’ll ask the same questions you probably have.
Now, he is in Juárez, in a crumbling shelter beautiful for the bright souls it contains but not a permanent home. He waits there, protected from the violence that uniquely afflicts migrants in limbo waiting for their hearing as to whether or not they’ll be given asylum in the US.
He heard his captors sharpening knives & ran for his life, which he only had the courage to do bc he faced death. We were able to laugh about this. It was just as crazy to him as it was to me. He felt like a friend. He used to live in Chicago.
Juárez, Mexico - Inspired by the strength of people I met struggling to protect themselves & their families from violence. One man lived in US for 22 yrs working construction, literally building property here. He left the country, tried to return & was kidnapped in Mexico....
Like any conversation, this should be ongoing. It’s far too much to encapsulate in a tweet & I’m just starting to really learn abt what US policies mean for real human beings who are in desperate circumstances. Please stay posted & ask questions. This week I’m gonna try this out.
I visited the US-Mexico border recently—people in shelters on both sides, El Paso & Ciudad Juárez. In a detention center housing nearly 1,000 men, I spoke w/ immigrants & guards. The situation is hard to witness, hard to describe. I’d like to try, and to invite conversation.
For now, a teaser. But the trailer... just you wait. twitter.com/YouNetflix/sta…
Ready for a fresh start. You S2 December 26.
And two days ago, the Iranian Minister for Education ruled that if students say they belong to an officially unrecognized religion (like the Baha'i Faith), this can be considered propaganda & they would be banned from school. Like so many other wild injustices, #itshappeningnow
As a lot of students are heading #BackToSchool, take 2 mins to learn about how the #Bahai community in #Iran is systematically barred from education because of their faith. #educationisnotacrime
A big thank you to @justinbaldoni who helped bring attention to Isabel’s problem. It’s thru their friendship that we are able to witness this problem, learn & take action. It’s thru friendship that we’ll progress as a society. Talk w/ your friends about it! #weareonehumanfamily
There are thousands of Isabels & many thousands more facing staggering injustices here & at our borders. By learning now, we draw closer to understanding how we might want to take meaningful action—and how the pain of one truly is the pain of all.
Isabel Bueso faces deportation & w/ her medical condition, it would kill her. Thru advocacy & participation in medical trials she’s bettered thousands of lives. There is a movement to #saveisabel and it’s working! Link to action in my bio. Learn more: people.com/politics/isabe…

In Yemen there’s an ongoing humanitarian crisis the world needs to recognize more fully. As a Baha’i, I am further pained by the persecution of the #YemeniBahais and their years of long-suffering there. My heart aches. Please watch. twitter.com/BahaiBIC/statu…
