On the upside that result against Croatia means England may top the group at #EURO2020 On the downside that probably means facing Germany in the first knock round. 🤦🏻‍♂️

In a clear swipe at Chinese & Russian vaccine diplomacy in the developing world @POTUS says ahead of the G7 summit "These half billion doses of Covid vaccine [the US is donating] come with no strings attached. We won’t be asking for favors in return, we just want to save lives."
After all the heavy lifting it’s had to do over the last 75 years the ‘special relationship’ probably should be allowed to finally enter retirement. theguardian.com/politics/2021/…
a political earthquake in Israel if this holds & Netanyahu is out. It’s basically Israel’s version of Margaret Thatcher being ousted from Downing Street. twitter.com/AnshelPfeffer/…

The last few hours before the official announcement of the ceasefire are usually the most dangerous, as #Israel intensifies its air strikes and the #Palestinian armed factions escalate their rocket fire, Each side wants to be able to say we fired the last bullet .

A good tick tock on what led to the explosion of violence in Israel, Gaza & the occupied territories. nytimes.com/2021/05/15/wor…
Tens of #Israeli warplanes carry out hundreds of air strikes across #Gaza Strip , the building in which I live in western part of the city shook like an earthquake a hysterical state of chaos, children and women in the building that houses more than 200 people screaming

I have never covered air strikes with such intensity, explosions are everywhere in #Gaza , there are difficulties in communicating with officials to find out where the strikes are.

It is utterly unacceptable for Israel to bomb and destroy the offices of media outlets and endanger the lives of journalists. Israeli authorities know where media outlets are housed. twitter.com/AP/status/1393…

A big day for the US on the road out of the pandemic @POTUS says "If you're fully vaccinated you can take off your mask, you can enjoy someone's smile, you can shake hands, you can even give someone a hug.” happily the rules also allow for the unsociable to do none of the above
The terrible loss of life from the conflict between Israel and Hamas is dominating the headlines but the real story of this crisis will be the lasting impact of communal violence between Jewish and Arab Israelis. It will fester long after a military ceasefire is reached.
What makes this conflict between Israel and Hamas different from previous ones is that ending the violence this time is not solely in their hands. It’s now spilled onto the streets with Jewish & Arab Israeli mobs attacking random civilians. That’s much harder to reign in.

A wonderful, unintentional parody that leads you to suggest her alternative career choice (Matador) would be ill advised, as the horns would take a terrible toll on the seat of her £1150 silk trousers, though, honestly, it’s a contest I would pay to see. on.ft.com/3b5zel3

Travel from India to US blocked due to Covid White House @PressSec :“[we]will restrict travel from India starting immediately….in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India. The policy will take effect on Tuesday, May 4."

“The most lethal terrorist threat to the homeland today is from white supremacist terrorism.” says @POTUS after talking about the still lingering threat of ISIS and Al Qaeda. An important statement from the President of a country which spent its last 20 years fighting abroad
There’s a lot of ad libbing going on throughout @POTUS address to Congress when you compare it to the prepared script. Some of it is President Biden’s delivery which is often stumbling, but some of it is Biden editing on the fly.
"We’re choosing truth over lies again.” says @POTUS a clear reference to President Trump right at the top of his joint address
“It’s good to be back” says @POTUS as he begins his joint address to Congress
A brilliant writer, a superb journalist and a great friend. It’s been a joy working with you, across two continents and two decades. The kindest, loveliest man I have every known, my father Speedy, lost the COVID battle and died this morning. When I took him to hospital, against his will, I promised I would bring him home in two days. I couldn’t keep my word. I failed. He never broke a promise he made to us

“I’m praying the verdict is the right verdict, which is, I think it’s overwhelming in my view. I wouldn’t say that, lest the jury was sequestered now and not hear me say that.” says @POTUS as the nation waits with him for the end of the #ChauvinTrial
The defence seems to be using the distressing videos of George Floyd dying more than the prosecution did in their closing arguments. It's being used to rebut claims but it seems like a high risk tactic to leave those images with the jury when they go to consider their verdict.
“He chose pride over policing” says the prosecution in their closing argument in the Chauvin murder trial saying it was Chauvin’s ego that led him to refuse to heed the pleas of bystanders and George Floyd himself to get off his neck or he would die.
