"Convinced that NATO needs the EU."
"NATO is the strongest military alliance in the world. The EU will never be a military union..." Sees EU defence union as complementary to NATO and in "NATO's interests."
EU equivalence decisions, such as on financial service provision, will be a unilateral EU decision.
Michel Barnier: Trade agreements between UK and non-EU countries cannot be implemented until UK leaves, but can be negotiated before this.
Level playing field obligations on both sides is the price of "zero-tariff, zero-quota, zero dumping" deal.
Keen for "reconsideration of the timeframe."
Transition time "very tight" and "impossible to negotiate all of what I've mentioned... will have to prioritise." Proposes first tackling areas where there are no other international agreements to fall back on.
"You can choose collaboration over isolation."
Makes reference to demographic change and Europe's declining population as a share of the world.
