Solidarity with Harsha Walia @HarshaWalia. Those of us who know her and have been in movements with her for decades know there is no stauncher opponent of oppression and injustice. Stay strong @bccla! (Back to my Twitter break). twitter.com/haymarketbooks…
I'm taking a summer Twitter break because my computer is literally overheating (also, you know, Twitter.) Climate chaos is real folks, we are in it. We need a transformational #GreenNewDeal to a post-carbon economy based on care and repair. A decade ago. But today will do.
1. I just really need settlers to know that there is still stuff we can do to mitigate climate change but you will have to learn how to be in continuous relation with the people around you and the lands you occupy. But it’s not a foregone conclusion that the world burns.

It takes a LOT of gall to wail about the non-permanent and easily removed "graffiti" on the doors and steps of the Saskatoon church when Christians have worked non-stop for CENTURIES to quite literally destroy and disfigure Indigenous spiritual and cultural sites--and *still* do.

Indigenous folks, what are some causes (personal or organizational) that CDNs can donate to on July 1? Drop the links 👇🏼

@mike_cal @GeoffreySupran @NaomiOreskes @AlexandriaV2005 @amywestervelt @KHayhoe @dan_kammen @NaomiAKlein @GretaThunberg @ParkerMolloy @RollieWilliams 2/2 But even within the existing physical infrastructure there is significant scope for change in the hi-CO2 lifestyles of those of us responsible for the lions share of emissions. But whilst there will be some catalysts for change in this group, it ultimately needs regulations.

@mike_cal @GeoffreySupran @NaomiOreskes @AlexandriaV2005 @amywestervelt @KHayhoe @dan_kammen @NaomiAKlein @GretaThunberg @ParkerMolloy @RollieWilliams 1/2 Agree in part. We certainly need a widespread & rapid Marshall-style transformation of our physical infrastructure. But this requires a wholesale shift in the productive capacity of our economies. As yet decarbonisation is little more than a bolt-on to business as usual.

These were little kids and adolescents. They had favourite foods. They got excited over butterflies. They had crushes and laughs unique to their personalities. Do not relegate them simply as graves to earmark a moment in time. These were kids and they had names. #751

"The Cowessess First Nation announced a preliminary finding Thursday of 751 unmarked graves at a cemetery near the former Marieval Indian Residential School." 751 graves at 1 "school." There were hundreds such sinister institutions. cbc.ca/news/canada/sa…
This is a map of every residential "school" site in Canada. Every dot is a crime scene. Only a few have been investigated so far. Canada, do not get used to these numbers. Do not let them become statistics. Put yourselves in the shoes of these children in the ground.

Allies, imagine if you did one tangible thing each time you saw the body count rise. Imagine if millions wrote to or called their politicians or clergy leadership or newspapers, or withdrew money from churches and papers and institutions. The change would be swift. DO ONE THING.

Rutgers has a truly incredible community of passionate students and radical, engaged scholars, and we are represented the most amazing faculty union (@ruaaup). I’m going to miss these colleagues so much - but I know we will keep finding ways to collaborate. 2/
The only sad part of our @UBC news is what it means about leaving @RutgersU (which was always a 3 years position). I have absolutely loved kicking off the inaugural Steinem Chair and I’m still (virtually) here for the summer. 1/
Journalists got their hands on a draft of the next big IPCC climate science report and sure enough—the news is grim af. New green tech is nowhere near enough. Only the prospect of mass mobilization producing gigantic policy change gives me hope. 😬 france24.com/en/live-news/2…3

It’s a huge joy to be able to devote my working life to helping protect and regenerate this special place, in collaboration with the many brilliant scholars at @UBC, as well as visionary community and Indigenous leaders on whose lands we live and work. Let’s go! 4/
That begins with a lot of listening, so stay tuned for more on that as it takes shape. Those of you who have read my climate writing over the years know that my love for these unceded Coast Salish lands and waters informs everything I do. 3/
My mission is to help turn @UBC's landmark "climate emergency" declaration into a lived reality, informing how many of us research, teach and collaborate with frontline communities. Part of this is going to involve helping to build a new Centre for Climate Justice. 2/
🧵I’m excited to share that starting in Sept, I’ll be joining University of British Columbia's amazing@UBCGeogg Department as the inaugural Faculty of Arts Chair in Climate Justice 1/
The shitty neoliberal version of greening homes is going to cause so much political backlash. We really have to do this right w good public policy and proper public funding. Sorry but the GND isn’t a random indulgence, it’s the best way to avoid a catastrophic green self-own.
