Trail Damage! Crews are attempting to assess winter damage and repair trails as they melt out. Thus far, 100% of glacial river crossings have been found to be washed out so expect things to take longer to open. Plan to turn around or change your plans if conditions warrant ~jm/pw

Navigation in whiteouts is extremely difficult. If clouds or fog start rolling in, head back down to the trailhead. The party in these photos did just that and returned to Paradise safely. If descending is not possible, stop, dig in, and wait for better weather. NPS/JBoisvert -pw

#VolcanoAwarenessMonth Mount Rainier is an active volcano with a history of lahars that have impacted areas within and outside of Mount Rainier National Park. From the south, SR123 is open to Stevens Canyon Entrance. Stevens Canyon Rd is open from SR123 to the Grove of the Patriarchs Trailhead. The Grove remains closed due to flood damage but parking lot & restrooms are open, w/ access to the Eastside & Silver Falls Trails. -kl 2/3

Spring storms have created challenging conditions for road opening operations.
