And this is my favorite, from a Tufts climate police exec: “The irony is it should be coming from existing utilities, but generally speaking they have been very resistant.” Dinosaurs burning dinosaurs, the asteroid is coming.
"The company has said it aims to reach net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. While many businesses have the same target, Exxon and Chevron have not set similarly ambitious climate goals."
How we survive: Cheapest electrons on the planet, competition for energy, recalcitrant US oil giants and local utilities. The companies ready to disrupt themselves can come in for the win, and Shell is doing it in Texas. nytimes.com/2022/06/07/bus…
Tech companies are laying off in the thousands. At the same time, there have never been more job openings in fast-growing climate companies worldwide. Here's a chance to put your tech skills to work in climate. Make real money while healing the planet 🌎 A taste of just a few👇

So, hear me out. Was the pandemic the best argument for universal basic income we've seen in our lifetimes? bloomberg.com/news/features/…
Congrats to @karaswisher and @TaylorLorenz and anyone brave enough to see their bright light and want to make their own way. The Rebellion of the Talent is a fun ride to be on! #founderspirit
It was my fault for not realizing then that I probably should have. I've worked for companies that were happy to let me be an INtrapreneur and never own a thing. It was my mistake not to see it sooner. But their mistake will keep producing talent brain drain until they see it.
When I was writing and taping the Buzz Report back at CNET in 2005 and 2006 (which yes, I created), are used to jokingly ask why I was working so hard when I could be on this new thing called YouTube falling off a chair and getting millions of views.
Media does not necessarily produce the same returns as Uber, but brands and talent DO have real monetary value -- look only to Hollywood and the creator economy to see that.
I *created* How We Survive and Make Me Smart. I created the video series and column concept I did at NYT. I created Always On at CNET -- hell, I wrote a business plan for it. @acedtect and I created Buzz Out Loud and benefit from it still in love and incremental Patreon $$.
Now that I work with founders, and yes, full disclosure, left media for a lot of these same reasons, I've been thinking a lot about product and value creation. Creativity is a product and it creates value. twitter.com/karaswisher/st…
live with @mollywood! let's go!!! - @BuzzFeed had its worst one day % drop in their trading history - @UberEats is coming for @goldbelly - @Europarl_EN ruled USB Type-C port will be standard by 2024 - @religionofsport raised a $50M Series B youtu.be/1IgOKE8NhtE

Update: there were apparently TWO overnight. Chattanooga and Philly. But really, the tweet above is pretty evergreen.
👇 👇 👇 At this point, with another mass shooting in America, Dems should be saying we're under terrorist attack and Repubs are in favor of the terrorists. Because, um. Accurattwitter.com/nhannahjones/s…R03
This headline from the @latimes isn't just blatantly false and misleading; it's also the result of a years-long propaganda campaign by the fossil fuel industry to halt progress on climate change. Thread:

Friday positivity dump? I am having the best day. I love this job. I have talked with three founders today, two of whom are PORTFOLIO COS, in order to be useful, offer advice and guidance, and hopefully help them build something wonderful and successful. This feels amazing!
JUST IN: The US economy added 390,000 jobs in May – beating expectations and showing how strong the job market remains (though it was a bit below 436,000 from April). The unemployment rate remained at 3.6%. Overall, ~96% of jobs lost in the crisis are back.

See? They want to get rid of voting rather than have universal background checks. Doing the marketing for me. twitter.com/brychan/status…
The other thing MADD did really well was make it socially unacceptable to drive drunk. There's a huge framing component here. Like we need to use this money to seize the narrative away from some sort of American right to weapons of mass murder and more toward, have you no decency
"Overfund" is an excellent word. And a good reminder that the NRA and the GOP don't have some magic spell that no one can possibly replicate. It's money. The point is money. twitter.com/keaton_taylor/…
What else? And more importantly, let's go. We know how our political system works in this country. USE IT.
Lead divestment campaigns against public gun companies whose weapons are used in mass shootings. Obviously lobbying and advocacy for the gun restrictions the vast majority of Americans actually SUPPORT.
Establish a pool of money for gun buybacks. apple.news/ASwyGevdqSk-dE…
Some ideas: target politicians who receive donations from the NRA and just flat out up the bid. $100k more than they're offering, maybe more if they promise not to take NRA money.
Let's talk solutions. Yesterday on @TWiStartups, @Jason and I brainstormed a new lobbying org. Parents for Responsible Gun Ownership to replace. In the spirit of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, one of the most effective US campaigns, it's about changing an unacceptable status quo.
we are reaching a real breaking point: pandemic fatigue, inflation, a housing crisis, the narrowing of women’s rights, mass shootings. all this (and much more) as a conservative SCOTUS remaps every progressive law. and with no time to properly process because we are busy working
