Two years without school is probably fine. I can’t think of any schools that went in person here or in any other country successfully last year pre-vaccine. They just don’t exist. twitter.com/rweingarten/st…

I don’t know who needs to hear this, as the kids say, but you don’t have to be a doctor to know that 6-yr-olds are on a different planet from 80-yr-olds when it comes to COVID risk profile and it’s irrational to pretend they’re similar, which is what we’ve done too often for a yr twitter.com/PamelaSwanson1…
Further, the risks to most children of missing another year of normal life and school are far higher than the risk posed by COVID. This irrational and ongoing attempt to treat 7-yr-olds as if they have the same COVID risk profile as 72-yr-olds, despite all evidence, hurts them.
Kids, especially elementary school age, are not in danger nor are they a grave COVID danger to others, and they never were. twitter.com/dcexaminer/sta…

Really powerful public officials, some of whom lead giant powerful bureaucracies, have their own motivations and the bureaucracies themselves have motivations. Examining them skeptically is good! Doesn’t mean they’re all bad or you’re besmirching them to do so.
There’s a strong tendency and incentive to treat the Foil to Trump of the moment, whether it’s Comey, Brennan, Fauci, or even Avenatti, as nearly infallible (Only Honest Man in Washington!). But it’s not true and it doesn’t serve anyone well to treat them as such. twitter.com/ggreenwald/sta…

NEW in @NEJM: 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine offer 88% protection against symptomatic disease caused by the delta variant. Just slightly down from 94% against the alpha variant (B.1.1.7) that was first discovered in Britain & became dominant across the globe earlier this year.

Hey guys, @RandPaul was right and Fauci was wrong. The NIH was funding gain of function research in Wuhan but NIH pretended it didn't meet their "gain of function" definition to avoid their own oversight mechanism. SorryNotSorry if that doesn't fit your favorite narrative.

The definition of a false choice. Schools staying open and maskless would be easier if people with public health platforms like this leveled with people on the near-zero risk of death or hospitalization to children from covid. twitter.com/JeromeAdamsMD/…

The conflation of run-of-the-mill, even gentle, criticism of Fauci w personal attacks is so prevalent. Criticisms of him are not attacks on science itself, despite his protestations. He’s a powerful public figure who deserves & can handle a lot more tough questions than he gets. twitter.com/MelanieCantin/…
The tweet that resulted in Marjorie Taylor Greene's temporary ban—calling covid "not dangerous for non-obese people and those under 65"—is not a particularly compelling example of misinformation.

A lot of people just give it a pass because she’s on their team, but it was pretty blatantly anti-vax for really crappy, opportunistic reasons at a pretty important time. This is why I get a little uncomfortable with one team designating “misinformation.” Bias makes ppl bad at it
She also said, in part left out, which I would’ve played, there may be no credible sources because Trump admin. It was exact vaccine as one she now supports & she knew it. At BEST, this is high-profile anti-vax partisan dopamine hit while giving sop to Fauci. Not ok bc she’s a D. twitter.com/justinbaragona…
COVID-specific tweet. That’s clear from the link, but not my tweet language.
Thoughtful and welcome piece on different risk calculations for vaccines in healthy kids vs adults. The risk calculations for kids have ALWAYS been vastly different from adults, & v. sciencey ppl persist in pretending unmasked 3-yr-olds are biohazards. 🙄 wired.com/story/the-cdc-…U
