Business leaders have been vocal in supporting a peaceful transfer of power from Trump to Biden. However, their political spending contradicts their calls, and fueled attacks on democracy. Read my latest with @CPADisclosure’s Bruce Freed via @USATODAY: usatoday.com/story/opinion/…

We Americans boast: "We're No. 1." Not true. A new @socprogress study finds the US ranks No. 28 in wellbeing--and one of only 3 countries slipping backward. US is No. 1 in university quality, but No. 91 in basic education, and No 97 in health access nyti.ms/2Rd99pT

11/ From the beginning our purpose has been action, not merely analysis. So, once you’ve read the book, join our movement at @Pol_Innovation. Our work won't stop after the book is out. It’s only the beginning…
10/ You can learn more in our book, The Politics Industry: How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy.amazon.com/Politics-Indus…
9/I teamed up with @Pol_Innovation founder @katherinegehl to analyze what is keeping our country from political progress and we found some powerful and achievable solutions which can be implemented within years, not decades.
8/ We must pivot, together, from dire straits and diagnosis to the promise of political innovation. We must convert frustrated energy into targeted individual action—especially from business leaders.
7/ We are no longer the country we like to think we are. Our society is fracturing. Quality of life in America is declining for many. So what do we do?
6/ Core rights enshrined in our Constitution are also under threat. We now register a lowly 21st on religious freedom, 23rd on freedom of expression, and 27th on access to justice.
5/ Our communities are not safe. Our homicide rate has skyrocketed to 35th, and we are a disturbing 26th in discrimination and violence against minorities in the OECD.
4/ Despite spending far more than any other nation on its health care system, the US is 35th in maternal mortality, 33rd in child mortality, and 28th in life expectancy. In these areas we are comparable to Ecuador and Panama.
3/ According to @socprogress, the US ranks 33rd in access to quality education. American citizens often lack access to the most basic essentials. We are 31st on access to basic drinking water.
2/ When compared with the 37 other peer democratic countries with advanced economies, America’s standing is shocking.
The Horrifying Consequences of America’s Unchecked ‘Politics Industry’: 1/ America is in trouble. And while 2020 has provided ample evidence of our inability to deliver results—particularly around crisis preparedness and racial equity—we have numerous pre-existing conditions.
I am honored to be @katherinegehl's co-author in this work! Dysfunctional competition in our political system is the single greatest obstacle to progress in America. By diagnosing the root causes, we can identify the powerful and achievable solutions to fix U.S. politics. twitter.com/katherinegehl/…
Available today, The Politics Industry — by @katherinegehl and @MichaelEPorter — is a completely nonpartisan guide to the dynamics and challenges of the American political system and provides real solutions for reshaping the system for the benefit of all. trib.al/BEutJKp

This is a book about politics, but it is not political, or partisan. Katherine and I personally cover the political spectrum. Katherine was a Democrat who now calls herself a “politically homeless centrist independent,” and I am a lifelong Massachusetts Republican...
We also describe how political reform happened in America before, and how it is happening now in many states. We discuss what we have learned about political innovation efforts and what works...
It doesn’t have to be this way. We can change it...
The failure of our political system is the most powerful constraint to a prosperous, healthy nation and world. I have come to believe that none of my other work will ever reach its full potential without structural changes to the nature of the American political system...
In our book, we put forward a strategy for reducing the extreme partisanship and division through practical changes, starting with election and governing rules...
Our book explores the true nature of competition in our political system. We identify the root causes of the multi-era dysfunction that have resulted in our inability to address many of our most important challenges, including the current health crisis...
Over my career, I have written on various topics: economic theory and policy, competition and competitive advantage, national and state competitiveness and economic development, health-care delivery, and business strategy. “The Politics Industry” may be the most important...
For the last several years, @katherinegehl and I have been working together to bring a new perspective to understanding American politics. This research is presented in our new book “The Politics Industry” to be published through Harvard Business Review Press on June 23rd...
I am posting my first Twitter "thread" to share why my 20th book, “The Politics Industry” may be my most important yet...
