Today we got rid of the gas guzzling Pajero. It was Gwiza's idea, and she is right. I love her so much.
Many thanks to our *outstanding* research team in Uganda led by @Anthony10241388 without whom our contribution to this work would not have been possible. You can read the full paper here: nature.com/articles/s4159… twitter.com/SaadOmer3/stat…

After working with women in markets for almost 4years, I'd have said that I have seen it all but I was yet to see what happens when these women are sleeping in the markets. So with all the women in me, I packed a bag and went to the market so I could tell this story

Given the sheer volume of individual experiences with the current restrictions it seems almost urgent that @KagutaMuseveni review and clarify the directives so people don’t die because they cannot reach hospitals or relatives or even medicine & food.

B.1.525 is the Eta variant, first observed in Nigeria. Currently considered a VOI (variant of interest). You can read more about classifications here: cdc.gov/coronavirus/20… The vaccine is a lifeline, but do not assume it fully protects you and others.
The AstraZeneca vaccine being used in #Uganda is effective against this variant, but possibly less so. One study found 33% effectiveness after one dose and 60% after 2 doses (pre-print, not yet through peer review) khub.net/documents/1359…
Small samples but seems clear there are changes in the patterns of variants circulating in #Uganda. B.1.617.2 is the Delta variant, first observed in India. Research suggests this variant is more infectious, possibly higher likelihood of serious illness. gov.uk/government/new… twitter.com/mlcotten13/sta…
