When virtual and physical worlds collide, anything can happen. Digital creators unlock the possibilities of our tech and end up in all kinds of things virtual and augmented environments. Check it out:…
What do you want to experience in VR?
We’ve created many VR prototypes over the years 😎 And now our researchers are working on making VR as vivid as the physical world.6
Can’t wait for Friday @BALENCIAGA
Introducing @CraytaGame on @FacebookGaming — a platform that lets you easily build worlds and play games in real-time with friends. Start creating today 👉
And all of this is made possible by Presence Platform, the suite of machine perception and AI tools we created to support developers in building mixed reality experiences — many of which are already available on Meta Quest 2.
Get a sneak peek of what mixed reality experiences will be like on Project Cambria, our next VR headset. Mixed reality will blend the physical world with the virtual — think fishing 🎣 under your living room floor or playing chess♟️with your friend’s avatar at your coffee table.b
NFTs allow creators to take control over their work, fanbase and income. Starting this week, you may start to see digital collectibles on @instagram. Oh and they ✨shimmer✨…
How would you imagine a garden in the metaverse?
Intersectional environmentalist @Leahtommi and visual artist Vartika Jangid got together and imagined what a community garden could look like in the metaverse — and one thing’s for sure — going green is always in style.
We’re joining @stripe, @Google, @Shopify, and @McKinsey in a $925 million commitment to address the climate crisis. This investment will help scale efforts to remove CO2 that’s already in the air to avoid some of the worst impacts of climate change.…
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and take more action as needed. You can learn more here:…
We’ve also seen our global community show up to support each other, raising $20 million since Feb. 23 for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. You can find ways to donate here:
We’re fighting the spread of misinformation on our apps and putting more restrictions and transparency on state-controlled media outlets to help people know if what they see is coming from a publication that may be under the influence of a government.
We’ve added several features to help keep people in Ukraine and Russia safe, including a tool to lock profiles in one step & help ensure information is private & secure. Please share this info with friends or family.…
We have been closely following the invasion in Ukraine and taking steps to help protect and support our community. Below are a few of the actions we’ve already taken.

Learn more about how we’re building the metaverse responsibly 👇…e
The metaverse will also make it possible for more people to see the world without having to travel. And we’re building new technology like Horizon Workrooms to help remote employees feel more connected to their team.
For example, we’re making sure avatars can represent a wide range of human skin tones and facial features. And we’re building devices that let people with different physical abilities play the same game.
To do this we’re supporting research on how these technologies will impact different communities, including marginalized communities, and finding ways to enhance protections and empower everyone.
We’re also working to make sure the technologies that power the metaverse are designed inclusively. That means building hardware that isn’t one-size-fits-all and considering different needs of people around the world.
As with any new technology, we know if hardware costs are high, not everyone will be able to afford access. So we’re exploring ways to make the metaverse more accessible to more people.
Our aim has always been to empower as many people as possible through our products, and we’re taking the same approach in the metaverse.
We’ll aim to keep fees for creator and developer services low to unlock the best ideas. By empowering creators, our hope is that the metaverse will host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce in the next decade and support millions of new jobs. #ResponsibleInnovation
Businesses will be creators too. They’ll build out digital spaces that embody their brand and sell both physical and digital goods. You’ll be able to virtually try on a new pair of sunglasses, buy them for yourself or get the virtual shades for your avatar.
There will be many types of creators in the metaverse — those who make digital objects like outfits for your avatar, those who offer services and experiences like a virtual museum curator or fitness instructor, and those who build entire worlds like game creators.
Our goal is to empower creators, developers and entrepreneurs to make a living in the metaverse. New technology can break down constraints that exist in commerce today, giving more people the opportunity to be rewarded for their work and encouraging competition.
We’ll also have to build in tools that help keep people safe and hold people accountable for their actions. This means working to reduce harm and giving people ways to get help if they need it. #ResponsibleInnovation
Since the metaverse will be new to most people, it’ll be important to explain how to use our products safely and responsibly so there are clearer expectations.
That’s why we’re prioritizing working with experts in human and civil rights, privacy and safety to help us think through policies for our products and develop new technologies to limit abuse.
We want the metaverse to be a safe and respectful environment. But we know this work is much bigger than us.
On our end, we’ll focus on respecting your privacy in everything we build. And we’ll treat your data with the sensitivity it deserves. #ResponsibleInnovation
While no one knows exactly what sharing in the metaverse will look like yet, we believe you should have controls to manage your experience using our products.
This means, as we build new ways to connect in the metaverse, we’ll have to help people understand how our technologies work, so they can make informed decisions about how to use them.
Just like the internet today, the metaverse will have both public venues as well as spaces for more private conversations. And you’ll be able to choose how you want to participate.
That’s also why we’re investing $50M over the next two years to develop mixed reality programs and conduct research focused on 4 main areas: privacy, safety, economic opportunity, and inclusion. We’ll share more on each of these over the course of the week. #ResponsibleInnovation
To get things right, we’ll work with experts in civil and human rights, government, technology, and academia to think through issues and mitigate risks.
No one company can (or should) build the metaverse alone. It will be built by people and businesses all over the world. And it’ll be important that experiences built by different companies or people, like avatars or virtual worlds, work together.
As you may have heard, we’re pretty excited about the metaverse, but we won’t all be hanging out at virtual BBQs tomorrow. It'll take years to develop the necessary pieces, which gives us time to help make sure it's built responsibly. So how will we do this?
More than 390,000 people have donated to fundraisers on Facebook and Instagram for the #BettyWhiteChallenge, raising $12.7 million for animal shelters and rescues.
