Great to see @chngin_the_wrld in @CNN today talking about her amazing story of saving her husband Tom with #Phages. This is a great summary of an incredible story! #NotAllViruses #PhageHuntNZ…

Do you teach biology, cell biology or genetics? Pam Kalas and I have developed radically better teaching animations for mitosis and meiosis; they emphasize understanding 'how' and 'why', not rote memorization. Here’s the trailer!

I am very uncomfortable in crowds and don’t care for group noise. So the family get together is a challenge for me. They are all wonderful people; it’s my problem. Funny bit. The guest house where I am staying has a magazine rack. The only magazines are clearly mine, from 2005.
Standing ovation for @BerondaM from @SABERcommunity at #SABER2022 after closing by reminding us all that awareness alone is not enough- keep learning but answer that moral imperative to act. 💚u

Jung had some interesting ideas.
New Doc Martens. I have seven pairs of boots. But if they had a Seattle inspired design or Van Gogh design in boots, I could not resist. These are LA and Monet inspired. @drmartens
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.
It may sound trivial, but I cannot express how much seeing posts of smiling scientist faces with good news lifts my spirits. I’ll bet I’m one of many who feel that way.
A wonderful thing to remind students during a lecture. Thanks to the brilliant @beatricebiology . @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology #MicrobialCentrism #Bio350
I wish. Oh how I wish.
A difficult truth. I do not believe I am wrong about this.
The Quinn grandchildren, including my F1-A and F1-B.
Next trip is on Monday.
In Knoxville, I suddenly thought of @Symbionticism
TFW when the Provost at your institution suddenly steps down.
So much I do not know how to do. I’m tired.
When I first went to @Micropia in Amsterdam, I fell in love with the #TardigradeThrone. I still say it would be an excellent office chair. Anyway, I talked a woodworker into making me a little one! @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @tardigradopedia
I love that my MIL remembers the quirky stuff that makes me happy! How can you not study something so incredible? I’ll have to connect with Elizabeth some day!! I 💚 Tardigrades@tardigradopediaa @saintmichaelss3

I will be giving a talk on our new insights into Massospora, its ecology, & its potential interactions with other cicada-associated microbes! I'll have these fabulous stickers drawn by the incredibly talented @beetle_mom. Come find me if your survival depends on having one!

“I’m very concerned that our society is much more concerned with information than wonder, in noise rather than silence. How do we encourage reflection? … Oh my, this is a noisy world.”

Portrait of an old microbiologist after a red eye with bonus back pain.
It was nice to see @swirlgirl31415 and the F1s greet Betsy Quinn at the Knoxville airport. Betsy remains the greatest. The Quinn Compound is lovely as always. Humidity, heat, headache for me. So I will crash some more.
@markowenmartin I had a great experience with plasmids from this paper:… Figure S9 here showcases the induction curve:…

Dawn at DFW. I’m exhausted and hurt like hell.
Yep. Cannot sleep on a red eye. I'm going to be fabulous when we get to Knoxville.
Okay. Here is a challenge. I really want to be able to read this article, or its translation: Videnst Medar da -. Forem. (1984) 145: 201-218 All advice appreciated.
Can I just point out that red-eye flights really do suck down to sedimentary strata?
On our way soon. SeaTac to DFW. DFW to Knoxville. #QuinnMartinTrueLifeAdventure
This is why Marcus Aurelius always appealed to me.
