be mad at republicans who have been telling us they want to do this for decades but maybe also be mad at democrats who speak advocacy with their lips but choose time and time again to do jack shit with power

I know it’s not in @sounddevices’ current business direction, but damn, what I’d do for a “USBPre 4” that was just a USBPre 2 with 4 channels and an SD-card recorder with the physical controls and all-analog, zero-latency monitoring path. MixPre 6-II is great, but it’s not that.
Anyone know of a modern audio interface that has a built-in SD-card recorder AND truly zero-latency analog headphone monitoring? The Sound Devices MixPre line has about 3ms latency for headphone monitoring that drives me slightly nuts for podcasting. Maybe the Zoom F line?
Ah the windy twists and turns of @atpfm. Before the 2019 Mac Pro… @marcoarment (paraphrasing): “John, you should really consider a PC for your gaming needs.” This week… @siracusa (also paraphrasing): “Marco, you should really consider a PC for your gaming needs.”

Can he do us a favor and either buy it or stop trying to buy it before we record the podcast on Wednesday?
Oh god, it’s really going to happen, isn’t it? Which comes first: he fixes Twitter’s problems, he delivers full self-driving, or the heat death of the universe?
Agreed. Netflix’s refusal to participate in Siri/TV.app was a power move, made when they were in a position of power. Now, they have strong competition. They’re at greatest risk of being forgotten… until another price hike prompts people to consider canceling. twitter.com/burnflare/stat…
I’m with @gruber on Netflix’s woes: daringfireball.net/linked/2022/04… Netflix used to be all we watched. Now, almost every good new show is somewhere else, and Netflix has become an endless sea of mediocre, time-wasting filler. Fix the content, and the subscribers will follow.

“Your price is too high” is hard to enforce. But there’s so much low-hanging fruit that could prevent tons of scams, and they’ve ignored it for years. Eliminate weekly billing. Show annual costs on the purchase sheet. Nope. The status quo is VERY profitable, so it stays. twitter.com/_holger/status…
The reality — that a LOT of their “services revenue” is a 30% commission from sleazy games exploiting gambling psychology to extract money from people, many of whom are children — is SO uncomfortable that they keep repeatedly asserting the opposite, to the world and themselves.
The most galling aspect of Apple’s views here is how inconsistent they are with the reality of the App Store, which we all know contains tons of gross, scammy, misleading, untrustworthy, insecure, privacy-invading apps — often on the top charts, and often targeting children. twitter.com/reckless/statu…

In the 1920s, cars slaughtered so many pedestrians that the public was furious. Car owners were regarded as sociopaths. Car sales dipped in 1924. So the auto industry fought back with a clever ploy: "Jaywalking" If you got hit, it was *your* fault: clivethompson.medium.com/the-invention-…

The Windows extremists keep making fun of me for this, but trust me, I found the GUI timeline setting — it’s just disabled.
One of my favorite reviews ever.
Nope. The setting was disabled. This is on the clean OEM install of Windows 11 on a brand-new laptop. twitter.com/davidjcooke/st…
It only took 30 minutes of setting up a new Windows 11 PC before I had to search the web for how to do something, was directed to the admin terminal, and had to use the command line to solve a common problem. What problem, you ask? Setting the time zone. Yup, that’s right.
My kid caught me setting up his new gaming laptop, and the FIRST thing he asked was if we could take off the Intel and NVIDIA stickers. Raised this one right.
