audiences are not dumb. they are not mindless drones. they want good stories.
whether it's profitable to build a global machine to market them is another story
thor: the dark world didn't make $200M because it's that much artistically better than EEAAO
it's not even (just!) because disney forces deals on theaters, or blogs don't shut up about it
there's something beyond that. call it marketing, mindshare, machinery, whatever
none of this is to take away from EEAAO's success, not by a long shot
i've never seen a movie get so much word of mouth, and especially not one so deserving of it
but the metrics we use to talk about the success of big budget movies are divorced from everyone else's reality
despite this, it has (so far! it's still not done!) not outpaced The Punisher from 2004, which was also rated R

a lot of ink gets spilled over disney taking up all the theaters or all the attention in the Discourse
but so far, EEAAO is at least holding its own on both. it's constantly (thankfully) in the news, and it's facing miraculously low drops week over week. it's staying in theaters

when democrats try to secure midterm votes, they do it by considering thinking about maybe doing the bare minimum they could possibly do to make some people's lives better
when republicans do it, they competently strategize to ruin as many lives as possible
any technical problem whose only solution is "we just have to get everyone to agree to do X" is a problem that has no solution
a core chunk of the argument in favor of NFTs is that they are immutable and permanent
that's fundamentally incompatible with the idea of migrating everyone to a new chain, just because you didn't consider the problem of txn fees for *years*

a.) most other chains don't have the same problems because they're not at the same scale
2.) if your argument is that an entire fundamental element of the economy has to be migrated to fix basic problems like txn fees...bruh
normal companies in real economies don't have to issue apologies to the entire ecosystem simply because they did a half billion in sales

if most people really could pay $60 for a game, put 500 hours in, and sell what they made for $1,000, publishers would want to be the ones profiting the most off of that, not handing the bulk of this allegedly massive economy to their users
