The coronavirus infects brain cells and by cell-fusion turns healthy cells into virus-making factories. Then it causes the host cell to die. Everyone should get vaccinated today & avoid getting infected at all costs

Perpetrators can be great colleagues and mentors to some, while also sexually harassing other trainees. Both of these things can co-exist and it does not lessen the severity or the impact of the harassment. No amount of scientific success or track record makes up for it. 6/

I don’t know about this narrative. The WH has been consistent in saying getting vaccinated is the way out of the pandemic. That has been the goal and the focus throughout, even when variants and variables emerged. + The tone has been an effective mix of realistic and optimistic. twitter.com/annielinskey/s…

18 months into the 1st coronavirus pandemic ever to be documented, we often forget how hard it is to bear the burden of major decisions. Yes, we need data transparency on overall prevalence of breakthroughs, but amidst so many unknowns, in my book, @CDCDirector has done well.
If you're a healthcare organization — or hell, even doctor's, dentist's, or physical therapist's office — and not mandating vaccination, you're not providing the standard of care at this point. twitter.com/AmericaDialogu…

I can't begin to capture the level of dispirit & exhaustion among pandemic response experts right now: we are on track with some worst case scenario models for the coming months (poss. going above Jan hospitalization peaks) as leaders unwind basic public health measures. e.g:

There needs to be truth-telling about the reduced protection of mRNA vaccines vs symptomatic Delta infections. It was 95% pre-Delta. Many are claiming it's still ~80%. It isn't. 50-60% is best estimate from all sources (not US, since we don't have the data)

PSA: Studies conducted prior to delta mostly demonstrate immune protection against alpha, NOT Delta.
The biggest objection seems to be that the piece says breakthrough is uncommon, and thus the risk of long COVID is reduced. How can we know if breakthrough infections are uncommon if the CDC isn't tracking the ones that don't result in hospitalization?

Breakthrough infections are uncommon. However, you can get #longcovid from breakthrough infection. We don’t know how frequently long covid develops in fully vax people because CDC is not collecting such data. It is dangerous to get breakthrough infections. Please #vaxandmask
