A few years ago I spoke at an event for Title IX ed professionals. My remarks were ok. Afterwards, the one South Asian person there thanked me, saying how much it meant to him that I spoke b/c he hasn’t seen folks like us as visible in this space. I think about that moment a lot.

Now that we know the current Supreme Court will effectively ignore civil liberty matters in the name of judicial expediency and states rights legislative abuses, what does this mean for voting rights, gun control and our overall democratic form of government?
First they came for facts & we did nothing. Then they came for science & we did nothing. Then they came for the courts & we did nothing. Then they came for the Capitol & we did nothing. Then they came for voting rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights and still… nothing. #WokeAF

What the Texas abortion law shows is that political fundamentalism mixed with judicial “shadow docket” ideology imparts on society a world where Constitutional slight of hand is rewarded at the expense of those most vulnerable.
Justice Sotomayor, just now: "The Court’s order is stunning. Presented with an application to enjoin a flagrantly unconstitutional law engineered to prohibit women from exercising their constitutional rights ... a majority of Justices have opted to bury their heads in the sand."

I believe that @CatherineLhamon and @EDcivilrights will promulgate new Title IX regs that will create a more centrist version of the current regs but also one that keeps intact generally due process, evidentiary standards while protecting victims & fair process for the accused.
Not every institution of course, but quite a few.
In the frequent back & forth of developing Title IX policy from both sides of the aisle, I would remind all involved of how we got here. It was the institutions (remember) who did pro forma investigations, findings 100% of the time against the respondent or accuser or not at all.
As a former Title VII investigator (EEOC trained) who made the move to Title IX investigations, I can tell you that (as a Democrat) there is a vital need for due process, predictability and structure in campus sex harassment cases.
Creating a culture of respect that doesn’t tolerate racism not only improves the atmosphere on campus, but also can help your institution attract and retain employees. Take these actions to help prevent race discrimination for your campus workforce. ow.ly/mHc850G18Ij
