When reproductive healthcare is accessible to all, #LGBTQ+ people and people living with #HIV are able to live healthier, more secure lives.
Some clinics that offer abortions also provide HIV treatment, gender-affirming care, and STI and cancer screenings – all services that are critical to LGBTQ+ communities.
SCOTUS’s recent decision overturning Roe v. Wade disparately affects LGBTQ+ people and their ability to access safe reproductive healthcare 🧵 ⬇️y
Our LGBTQ+ youth deserve to experience adolescence as carefree as other young adults. No child should have to worry about the validity of their existence in the eyes of the law – which is why Lambda Legal will never stop defending the rights of our #LGBTQ+ youth.
🎉 On June 8, 2022, Lambda Legal and our co-counsel were awarded attorney’s fees in the amount of $321,529.50 for our victory in our case challenging Idaho's anti-trans birth certificate law. Learn more about our 2020

It's #DisabilityPrideMonth! Did you know the first Disability Pride Day & the Americans with Disabilities Act share a birthday? The ADA has been foundational for disability justice, providing protections to all people living with disabilities, including those living with HIV.
After overturning #RoeVWade, millions lost the ability to get an abortion in their state. The #WomensHealthProtectionAct could protect & restore the right to access abortion care nationwide. It's time to pass the #WHPA! #LGBTQ #HIV
In the latest episode of #MakingTheCase with Lambda Legal, host @itsalexberg sat down with @KaraIngelhart to talk through Lambda Legal's work in Harrison v. Austin & Roe v. Austin, the most significant legal victory for people living with #HIV in decades.
This week, @itsalexberg is sitting down with Senior Attorney @KaraIngelhart to walk us through Lambda Legal's work on the most significant legal victory for people living with #HIV in decades: #MakingTheCase
60+ members of Congress have already co-sponsored the Judiciary Act, which would #ExpandTheCourt by 4 Justices. More support is needed if we are going to rebalance #SCOTUS. 📞 Call your local legislators NOW and ask them to co-sponsor the Judiciary…ZI
Today, we celebrate #InternationalNonbinaryDay! #Nonbinary is an umbrella term that is used by people who experience their gender identity outside the categories of “man” & “woman.” The term encompasses many different ways gender is expressed & is unique to each individual.
📣#ExpandTheCourtt 📣 Expanding the Supreme Court means balancing the judiciary to more accurately represent the needs of everyone living in the U.S. Lambda Legal calls Congress to pass the Judiciary Act and add 4 more seats t#SCOTUSUS to better reflect the will of the peoplec7
RT if you want to #ExpandTheCourt #SCOTUS has destroyed its own legitimacy, losing public confidence in its integrity along the way. This is a Constitutional crisis and it’s far past time for Congress to act.
We need to pass democracy reform, expand SCOTUS, enact ethics rules for Justices, and pass WHPA and the Equality Act to address SCOTUS's onslaught on the Reconstruction Amendments. And it starts with reforming the filibuster in the Senate.…

.@RepCohen's line of questioning makes it clear we cannot separate Loving from Obergefell. The right to same-sex marriage is intertwined with the right to interracial marriages.

Rep. Fischbach and other Republicans keep talking about abortion as though only women access it. Yes, abortion bans impact ciswomen and is rooted in misogyny, patriarchy, and white supremacy. It is also true that trans men and nonbinary people access abortion. Be inclusive.

Rep. Chabot thinks Congress should be focused on economic issues. Abortion IS an economic issue. Contraception IS an economic issue. Marriage IS an economic issue. When folks aren't able to control their own reproductive lives or enjoy marriage benefits, there are financial costs
Retweeted by Lambda Legal
Marriage equality, like abortion, is also an economic justice issue. No one should have to cross state lines, employ attorneys, and expend untold costs to access the same rights as folks in other states. Constitutional rights are not meant to be a patchwork.

The impact of Dobbs could be vast. @JimObergefell shares his beautifully sad story of the last days of his marriage and Ohio's disregard of it. Families are harmed if states do not recognize marriages: medical decisions, adoptions, financial considerations, the list goes on.

HRC's @SarahWarbelow makes the threat to LGBTQ+ folks clear. States are already passing bills & are chomping at the bit to send up test cases to overturn Lawrence or Obergefell. Congress must pass necessary democracy reform along with WHPA and the Equality Act to protect rights.

It's important to understand the history of the 14th Amendment. @ProfMMurray explains it was drafted to eradicate the social & civil aspects of slavery: being unable to marry, to control one's reproductive destiny, or to raise one's family. There's no freedom without these rights

WHPA allows healthcare providers to provide abortion services free from regs that are more burdensome than those imposed on comparable medical procedures, do not significantly advance reproductive health or the safety of abortion, & make abortion services more difficult to access
Retweeted by Lambda Legal
WHPA works toward a future where all of us are free to make the personal decisions that shape our lives, our futures, and our families, without political interference, because #AbortionIsEssential health care that should be accessible to all.

While Rep. Jordan spreads misinformation, let me talk about the Women's Health Protection Act, H.R. 8296, which @LambdaLegal is proud to support. The House will have a vote on WHPA (again!) on Friday.

Chairman Nadler makes it clear: conservative judicial activists on the Supreme Court are threatening our arc towards progress and collective freedom. Under the reasoning of the Dobbs decision, other individual freedoms are under attack.

What’s happening in my home state is unacceptable and is harming LGBTQ+ youth and families. Some of the most special people in my life are in this community and it breaks my heart to see their identities try to be erased.

Within an hour of the ruling, Texas has already appealed, seeking to continue the persecution of trans youth and their families. We won’t stop fighting until all of these families are protected.
Gov. Abbott’s directive has instilled fear in Texas families for far too long. But this court, like every other that has considered Texas’s actions, held they were unlawful and irreparably harmful. Read more about this win for trans rights:…
Today’s ruling protects the Roe and Voe families, even as the court considers broader relief for ALL Texas families who are members of @PFLAG, a national #LGBTQ+ support organization that has 17 chapters in Texas.
Had Texas’s new rule not been blocked, the Department of Family & Protective Services (DFPS) could continue investigating loving parents of trans youth for “child abuse,” simply for affirming their adolescent children & following medical advice to provide medical care they need.
🎉 The State of Texas has been BLOCKED–yet, again–from investigating parents who work with their health care providers to provide their trans adolescent children with necessary medical care!A

❗If you would be directly affected by this policy, ➡️ share your story here to help protect trans rights to care: #Trans #ProtectFLTransHealth #LGBTQ
Should this rule become policy, Lambda Legal and our partners @FLHealthJustice @SouthernLegal @NHeLP_org are prepared to defend the rights of all trans Floridians. We condemn the AHCA’s efforts to deny crucial & often life-saving, gender-affirming care to the trans community.
Today, @AHCA_FL will have a hearing regarding their proposed rule to deny Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care. This would make care such as hormone therapy & gender-confirming surgery even more difficult for trans people in Florida to access. #ProtectFLTransHealth
