I had lunch plans with a friend and I wasn't gonna blow her off for that. I had my own damn plane ticket and I love her.
A matter of great personal pride is that I once turned down a ride on Dr. Oz's private jet and he was so confused and I hope you all know this level of contentment already or someday.
Sure do love the Thunderdome vibes of modern air travel.
Further in errors, it was @alexheard and not @imcorinnemec who counseled me and I think I need to quit while I'm behind and go to bed.
As @imcorinnemec just gently reminded me, I'm in Alabama, not Mississippi. This is how tired I am and I regret the error!
I'm sitting and working at a hotel rooftop bar in Mississippi and this man is loudly touting his exceptional ability to grow ferns and hostas and willingness to hook people up with them and I am extremely here for this.
OH HEY! Periodically the e-book version of Hi, Anxiety goes on sale for $1.99 and that's happening RIGHT NOW! I poured my heart into this thing and I hope it'll make anxious people feel less alone. harpercollins.com/products/hi-an…
And the thing about so many of these places is that I go through long stretches where I don't drink because of my chronic gut issues. I still feel happy and welcome in these places, and now so many of them have thoughtful nonalcoholic options in the mix.
I love my colleagues and I love bars and I lovingly bullied them into writing about their favorites. foodandwine.com/travel/bars/fo…
I dunno, maybe Gergen didn't notice Gen X because we were all hanging out smoking under the bleachers or hunkered down trying to fix our parents's VCR or hiding in the bathroom with someone's bent-up copy of Forever or trying to get the tape to Blockbuster before it closed?
"At 89, Mrs. Meggett is considered by many to be the most important Gullah Geechee cook alive." My heart is so full! Thanks @kimseverson / @nytimes for this powerful piece. nytimes.com/2022/05/09/din…

Huge love and empathy to anyone for whom today is painful because of loss, estrangement, distance, or any reason. I see you. Please do whatever you need to protect and care for yourself.

Related: In the first half of We Own This City, we've got lake trout and Utz crab chips. Haven't spotted any Natty Boh or Krimpets yet, but I hold out hope.
Also, if someone at NBC could do us a solid and bring back the Homicide: Second Shift website, that was some extremely early cross-platform genius.
Surely @hbomax can find some loose change in the couch to work out the music rights or whatever is holding up this perfect show from being discovered and devoured by people who missed out the first time around? The kids deserve Luther Mahoney and some time in the box.
I am once again asking for Homicide: Life on the Street to be available for streaming.
I don’t need gray floors I am sad enough.

And @kikiaranita found the most incredible grace and put a human face on a story that seemed so abstract in the morass of Covid losses of all sorts. She's a treasure of a human. foodandwine.com/news/how-to-cl… twitter.com/beardfoundatio…
I'm SOBBING. @KayleeHammonds ripped this story from her soul in the pain and aftermath of the murders in Atlanta. People were MONSTERS in the comments, and she knew they would be, and she knew she had a story that needed to be heard that would help others. foodandwine.com/fwpro/the-dang… twitter.com/beardfoundatio…
He may yell at me for saying this, but it's @briankoppelman's birthday and he's one of the best humans I know and dammit, he deserves to be celebrated.
Gonna open a li'l cottagecorpse shoppe next to that other store and call it Death Knell and it's all wax dolls, hair lockets, sputum hankies, and crepe doorknob cozies with adorable backstories.
all week i’ve been thinking about the faux-british “country store of housewares that come from a world far away” that recently opened in brooklyn because the real aesthetic that it’s selling hits much closer to home: it’s rural middle american! 🧵

OK whew. Thought I was hallucinating for a sec but yes, other people have also misheard the MTA announcement as: "The alligator is at the center of the platform." Thought maybe they meant the Tom Otterness sculptures at 14th or, you know, the usual subway chaos.
Blessums upon the soul of the person who left this genuinely excellent comment on my toast water recipe. myrecipes.com/extracrispy/to…

@beardfoundation @BravoTopChef @LauraHayesDC @ChandrasPlate @kittenwithawhip @RaceEmbrace @SanDiegoMag (6) If you’re a #literaryagent that loves a cute high school romance mixed in with the story of a Parsi girl in Chicago trying to navigate strict immigrant parenting and how much to or not to whitewash her own identity, slide into my DMs. Bonus: amazing food scenes & recipes.

I've written about this before, but I used to drink 2-4 liters of Diet Coke a day and now haven't had one for maybe 15 years. But I dream about it and I know if I drank a few sips, I would be right back there. nytimes.com/2021/08/11/wel…
this story is probably going to get some traction as evidence of ~america gone soft~ or some bullshit but it’s 100% a disability rights story. he was fired because his supervisor decided two panic attacks meant this employee posed a violent threat www-cbsnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.cbsnew…

I'm too angry and sad to articulate what I am feeling today, but Jason has done a great job. I commuted to that subway stop for a long time, and people I love live and work in that truly beautiful neighborhood. We've all been failed. twitter.com/imjasondiamond…
Also, if there is a long essay or reported piece about this particular subject, I would enjoy reading the living hell out of it.

I just realized that almost all the shows I have loved recently (Our Flag Means Death, Minx, Abbott Elementary, Severance) are workplace comedies. Was I just missing my friends at the office?

Come for a history lesson on how this confection starring a tropical ingredient — a dessert that conjures feelings of nostalgia and connection for so many — entered the American cake canon. Stay for the delicious recipe. wapo.st/3x3w90S

I saw the thread about managing Gen X people but all you really have to do is offer us one of these and maybe a Jolt Cola and we'll be like fine, whatever, sure and get it done.

I ended up having to haul my laptop to a concert recently as a result. Do not recommend.
