The human adventure is just beginning.
@jvancitters I saw all of the above in Bill and he was so generous, thoughtful, funny and kind to me even though I was new and learning. Tragic and terrible news, I’m so sorry John.

Please read this thread about Bill Burke. I owe so much to this man. twitter.com/jvancitters/st…

One of my favorite things was discovering about three years into working together that we’d lived in the same town and attended the same high school for a year. He was good friends with a family across the street. We’d never crossed paths there. Pure comedy.
Bill was our marketing and international VP, but he was so much more than that and never afraid to pick up a screwdriver, polish museum cases, do whatever needed to be done on any project. He was also a great father and husband and will be greatly missed. Thank you Bill.
Bill was focused, hard-working, as sharp and insightful a person as I’ve ever worked with and a good friend. We spent weeks working on programming, planning, logistics, setup and breakdown at events.
Most of you don’t know Bill, but I promise if you bought a piece of Trek merch or attended a con, a Cruise, or one of our SDCC exhibits in the past 14 years, you experienced the dedication Bill brought every single day. And night. And weekend.
Some of you are aware those of us that have the privilege to work on Star Trek lost Bill Burke, who passed suddenly and unexpectedly this week. To say this has been crushing is a massive understatement.
Pretty ironic given the 629,000 "Why I'm Leaving New York" essays published since the previous Census. nytimes.com/2021/08/12/us/…

#StarTrekLowerDecks is more confident and funnier in Season 2, with the jokes flying faster and freer. But the real stand-out is that the show has also dug deeper into being an earnest, hopeful Star Trek series, with some classic adventures alongside the Easter eggs and parodies.

I’m excited Lower Decks is back, but it’s admittedly 80% selfish because it means @drerinmac, @daytonward and I will have a whole new array of gifs to communicate with!

For the curious, the figure was a modified @BrentSpiner Data. The box was from a Voyager figure, I no longer recall which. Accessories handmade from the finest card stock. The suit was from a TRU clearance priced 12” Blues Brothers figure. (Elwood?)
22+ years later, I’m reasonably certain it worked.
So I spent the weekend customizing both box art and figure (and clothes) into a sort of facsimile of me so I could have it in front of them on Monday.
The solution was this. To custom repackage an @PlaymatesToys Star Trek action figure and send that as my follow-up letter to ensure they would at least look colossally stupid for passing on me.
I had an interview for the job which went well, but then also had to speak to a VP who was clearly not interested despite my soon-to-be boss @utilitybelter wanting to hire me.
Because my former boss @rockblocky has requested it and I’m occasionally asked…this is how I got my job. The John Van Citters® in Business Attire action figure.

Had a great time at #LowerDecks S2 event last night. The season is AMAZING, @MikeMcMahanTM et al nailed it and @MrJerryOC is the nicest guy in the world and promoted me to leader of the Federation or something. Anyway, he rules. As does my pal Rutherford.

@jvancitters That’s ok. Tuvix would understand. He failed at living, which is arguably worse.

Yesterday, Fauci announced that 99.5% of recent covid-19 deaths were among the unvaccinated. Just 0.5% of deaths were among the vaccinated. We have a ~50% vaccination rate in the country. So, choosing to be unvaxxed? You're 200x more likely to die. Your body, your funeral.
