I'm doing a "Donut Race" today with my youngest daughter at her high school. You have to run a mile and eat a donut every lap. So 1 mile, 4 donuts. That's a race I can support!
You can’t prevent awkward moments but you can plan for them. How? I'll tell you in this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal. Listen now!
When I feel insecure in social settings, the quality of my jokes decreases and the quantity increases, which is a terrible combo. Anybody else do the same? I'm sharing how to make awkward moments better on All it Takes is a Goal this week. Listen here!
Self-awareness is a superpower. It has the ability to turn awkward moments into learning moments. I'll tell you how in this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal. Check it out here.
Dear November, don't punk out like October. Be cold. You're the fall. Act like it.
When's the last time you felt 13? For me, it was a recent podcast I did with someone who seemed like they had their whole life figured out. I've got 3 questions to ask yourself in awkward moments like that on All it Takes is a Goal. Listen now!
I stand corrected. This is a fantastic Thanksgiving Day song!…
Life is jam-packed with awkward moments. Thankfully, you can grow from them and actually prepare for them. I've got 3 questions that will turn awkward experiences into learning moments on this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal. Listen now!
A lot of you tell me you can't enjoy Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. OK, please tell me your top 5 favorite Thanksgiving songs...
Twitter is pro wrestling. It's loud, exaggerated, performance art designed to cause an emotional reaction that turns into a click, a purchase or ad support. If you accept that, it's a lot of fun. If you come looking for news, facts or motive-free info, you're in for a rough time.
“Hey, you don’t seem stressed out enough.” Has anyone ever said that to you? Of course not because we’re all stressed. Luckily @tanya_i_dalton has a method for dealing with stress that has could change your life. She'll tell you what it is here -->
Dots are a good candy if you've got a hankering to chew on colored candles and don't have any with you.
Do you ever feel like you’re achieving goals that aren’t really yours? Or only setting goals you feel you're expected to? @tanya_i_dalton gets it, but she wants you to start making your goals YOUR goals. She'll tell you how on this week's episode.
You can hold your breath and pretend you’re perfect, shoving those fears back into a quiet corner or you can be vulnerable and brave enough to ignore the handful of people who will mock your vulnerability because they are terrified of their own. You get to choose each day.
In the Venn diagram of things we like to talk about, there’s a ton of overlap when it comes to me and @tanya_i_dalton. That's why I'm so pumped she joined me for a conversation on All it Takes is a Goal this week. Listen now!
The only billionaire I’ve spent a lot of time with would tell strangers he was in “customer service” if they asked what he did and would happily empty the trash at the restaurants he owned. I’m convinced that humility is one of the only ways to survive that amount of power.
If you want to pursue a non-traditional route after high school learn how to be an entrepreneur. Whether you want to be a sculptor, musician, farmer, painter, writer, etc. your ability to do it long term is directly tied to your ability to be an entrepreneur too.…
Jenny and I are taking our daughter LE to @SamfordU tomorrow for an interview with the business school. Crazy to think she's already a senior in high school!
When I find myself stressed out, sprinting frantically to “get ahead,” I ask, “What am I trying to get ahead of?” The answer is usually: 1. People I’m not really in competition with. 2. The world’s definition of success. 3. A mythical perfect version of myself. Then I slow down.
Is there anything better than a porch swing, a good book and a fall day? This is LE, my 18yo daughter, enjoying a Blowing Rock, NC moment. What book would you read on this swing?
You know that episode of The Office where Michael Scott hosts a race to cure rabies and eats too much carbonara and he gets sick? @semi_rad's ultramarathon experience was nothing like that. I just love that episode. Listen to our fun conversation here!
Jenny: Let’s hand out pretzels at Halloween instead of candy. Me: Let’s just egg our own house then & save time for the disappointed kids.
In 2019, @semi_rad completed 52 marathon-distance runs in 52 weeks, so he knows a thing or two about accomplishing big goals. He's sharing his insight on crushing goals and living an unconventional life in this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal.
You know what? In all seriousness, Travis is right. Now that I think of it, coyotes do look very smug. At first I laughed but then I thought, "Whoa, this is the realest thing I've seen today." Coyotes are so smug.…
Do you think coyotes have any idea how popular they are on the @Nextdoor app?
A few times a week, I text friends random bits of encouragement and humor. If you'd like to be on that list, text me at 615-398-6873. (I'm going to send a fresh text about the difference between feeling important and feeling at peace in the next hour or so!)
When I feel insecure in social settings the quality of my jokes decreases and the quantity increases, which is a terrible combo.
If you had a personal owner's manual all about what makes you tick, what works for you, and what doesn't work for you, what would be in it? @semi_rad and I talk about owning your process in this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal. Listen here!
I’m not going to retire. Eventually, I’ll just be one of those old guys who hands out samples at Costco. I’ll start at the bottom, handing out weird turmeric drinks and then work my way up to the ravioli guy in the back.
If you’re the kind of person who tracks the miles you run and gets mad at people who beat your running times on Strava, episode 43 of All it Takes is a Goal is for you. Fellow runner and author, @semi_rad is talking all things goals and running.
So thankful I was never a teenager with social media. I got to make my adolescent missteps as a 13yo without the fear that 10 or 20 years later a mob of self-righteous hyenas would try to tie them to my neck forever as if they never made mistakes, too.
"I don't want to act in it, I want to be in it." - @VictoriaLabalme on discovering what she wanted to pursue in life. If you feel stuck, listen to this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal for the conversation that will get you moving forward.
If you have a dog on a plane, I'm going to try to sit near that dog. I'm sorry, that's just how I was raised. (This is Pearl. She was headed from Seattle to Chicago. Seemed excited about the Chicago Museum of Art and hitting up @GiordanosPizza)
Do you ever feel like you're the only person who didn't get the manual on how to be an adult? If that's you, meet @VictoriaLabalme. She's got some advice for all the people out there still figuring it out, AKA most of the population. Listen to it here...
Shoutout to every dog & cat right now who have no idea that owners will try to jam them into Halloween costumes soon. Ignorance is bliss.
Sometimes when I “clean my office,” I just pile everything on my desk into this chair. This is the “pile chair.” ⠀ ⠀ Please tell me that I’m not the only one who has a spot like this in their house.
PSA: You're not "too much." The world needs you at full strength. My guest @VictoriaLabalme has got some encouragement for you if you feel like you can't always be authentically you on All it Takes is a Goal. Listen now!
How to fix verbal crutches: 1. Practice speeches at home 2. Pause instead of using a verbal crutch 3. Remember that most audiences won't even notice unless you do it 1,000 times. It's tempting to think they're noticing, remembering and critiquing your every word, but they're not…
Practice at home, what you want to perform on stage. In order to get used to a handheld for the comedy set I did, I practiced at home with a mic in my hand. Build up some muscle memory.…
How to help someone see soundtracks: 1. Ask them to write down a goal or dream. 2. Ask them to write down the first thoughts they hear when they do. (You're too old, too young, etc) 3. Ask if the thoughts encourage or discourage them. 4. If they discourage, they're broken.…
If you're speaking too fast during a speech: 1. Trim your content by 20%. 2. Practice with a timer to get your pace right. 3. Use a walk across the stage and a sip of water as natural speed bumps to slow you down.…
If I get a face tattoo, I might as well buy a house in Vegas because there's no way Jenny is letting me back in our place in Nashville.…
How to remove book writing stress: 1. Don't write "THE BOOK," write "a book." "THE BOOK" puts too much pressure on an already hard task. 2. Get the bad book out of the way. Think about that first draft as the ticket price for a better book. 3. Write so fast fear can't keep up…
Alright, I'm in Vegas waiting on a flight home. (Fingers crossed Southwest!) Let's do a live Q&A! What can I help you with today? Fire away with writing, goal chasing, business building, public speaking, soundtracks changing, chaos reducing etc. questions!
It's true! You never have to go looking for negativity. Negativity will find you. Everyone has had that moment in the grocery store where your brain says out of the blue, "Hey, let's think about that dumb thing you said last week." Hope on the other hand takes intentional action.…
“Some people in life know exactly what they want to achieve. This is a book for the rest of us.” This is how @VictoriaLabalme starts her latest book, and I love it. She joined me for a conversation about embracing the unknown on All it Takes is a Goal.
"We want certainty so bad, but really we yearn for something that's transcendent." - @cathyheller. Cathy will teach you how to surrender to the predictable and embrace uncertainty in this week's episode of All it Takes is a Goal. Listen now!
If you've ever tried to do anything outside of your comfort zone, I bet you've had a fight or two with Imposter Syndrome. I asked @cathyheller to join me for a conversation about how to overcome it so you can take more risks and see more results.
I'm running a half marathon tomorrow. (Murfreesboro Middle Half.) I need some song recommendations. What's your go to "get hyped!" song these days?
