It's very hard to imagine a Senate without @SenatorLeahy. Patrick has been a model of what a Senator can and should be, from the way he's served, to the lessons he shared today. He and Marcelle, together (and they are always together!) don't just love Vermont, they are Vermont.
Today I'm thinking of our Senate "Band of Brothers" - especially Max, who made it home to heaven just in time to give a hug to John McCain on this holiday that meant so much to them and their lifelong work for veterans. To all who served, we say thank you - today and every day.
It's tough to find the words, but here are some of my thoughts on the passing of America's Brother, Max Cleland:
We can still avoid a catastrophe — but time is running short, @JohnKerry writes. wapo.st/2ZTSiAo

It was a pleasure talking to students @LSEnews about the urgent need for ambitious action @COP26. They know the truth: the #ClimateCrisis is already here, and we must confront it today. youtube.com/watch?v=t2QAWk…

The U.S. Center is back @COP26! Visit us in Glasgow or tune into the live-streamed events at the U.S. Center from November 1-12 to learn about how the U.S. is increasing ambition and action to tackle the climate crisis: state.gov/climate-crisis…

Incredibly saddened by the loss of my friend Colin Powell. Teresa and I send our deepest condolences to Alma and the entire Powell family. My full statement:
.@GlasgowIsOurBiz is right: @COP26 is weeks away, and the future is indeed watching. Governments can’t solve the climate crisis alone. The fact that the private sector is leading underscores to every country that action is a jobs opportunity – and action means this decade. twitter.com/GlasgowIsOurBi…

Excited to talk all things climate with @sethmeyers - by far the SNL cast member who impersonated me best! #sustenancehasarrived twitter.com/LateNightSeth/…
Thrilled by @POTUS's announcement at the UN today that the Administration will work with Congress to further double the U.S. climate finance goal from earlier this year - an important signal of strong U.S. leadership by the President ahead of @COP26. twitter.com/POTUS/status/1…

I'm also remembering the flights that took off from Boston, never to return, and am praying for everyone who lost someone special, and remain grateful for the fearless first responders who rushed towards danger so others might live. Our nation remains indebted to you all. 3/3
The passage of time has not diminished their, or our, memories - they all live on through the family and friends whose lives they touched along the way. 2/3
It’s so hard to believe that twenty years have passed since the horror, anger, pain, courage, and resolve that were contained in the bright blue-skies of that September day. So many families changed forever when lives were so suddenly lost. 1/3
Life is about making choices, and we're facing the biggest one yet. The @IPCC_CH report makes it clear our window is narrowing, but it's not too late to act. We must choose to earnestly respond to the climate crisis while we still can. bostonglobe.com/2021/08/10/opi…

Today's report from the @IPCC_CH shows that we cannot afford further delay. The science has been certain for decades, but the latest report makes it abundantly clear – the climate crisis is not only here, it is growing increasingly severe.

Very, very few are motivated by people and fight for people the way Rich did. And he believed in the promise of clean energy to create great jobs for labor families. Sending lots of love to both the Trumka family and his @AFLCIO family. (2/2)
I first met @RichardTrumka when he was John Sweeney's VP and some dared declare that organized labor was dying. Rich breathed incredible life back into the movement which defined so much of his life. A friend, an advocate, a leader – even those words don't do him justice. (1/2)
I’m sickened by the tragic murder of activist Joannah Stutchbury in Kenya. Joannah was a passionate advocate for our environment. She paid the ultimate price for her courage and exercising her human rights. Justice must be served. #Justice4Joannah

As we approach 100 days until Glasgow, today in London I talked about where we are and where we need to go together - and the urgent need for action everywhere. I hope you'll check it out - and also follow me at @ClimateEnvoy: state.gov/remarks-on-the… twitter.com/ClimateEnvoy/s…
I’m thinking of all of them this Memorial Day - Don, Peter, Persh, and so many more - who didn’t get to grow older and know their kids and grandkids. May god bless their memories today and every day.
My thoughts on the passing of my friend, Senator John Warner.
I can tell you that this story and these allegations are unequivocally false. This never happened - either when I was Secretary of State or since. twitter.com/John_Hudson/st…
Friends, today we get back to work. As I head back into government I’ll now be tweeting from @ClimateEnvoy. I hope you’ll follow me there and join me on the road to Glasgow!

Delighted to see my friend @SamanthaJPower heading to @USAID. She's bold, brilliant, and an idealist who gets things done. Development is essential in America's rightful role in the world and is great for jobs at home. And Sam has the right taste in baseball teams too! twitter.com/Transition46/s…

#ClimateAvengers! Really enjoyed talking with @RobertDowneyJr - aka Iron Man - about climate change. Watch the whole conversation tomorrow. In the meantime check out the fun trailer RDJ's team made! #WorldWarZero #UniteForChange
Bill Burns represents not just excellence in diplomacy, but integrity and honesty in public service – exactly what he’ll bring to the CIA. My former colleagues in the Senate will find someone who is candid, accessible, thoroughly nonpartisan, and who loves his country. twitter.com/Transition46/s…
2. Howie always had a smile on his face, but he also showed great care for the safety of the young staff who worked behind our office doors. A tragic loss of two patriots who spent their careers protecting the halls of democracy.
1. My deepest sympathies to the families of Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood. During my last years in office, Howie was stationed next to one of our offices in the Russell Building - doors where everyone from school groups to protesters entered/exited.
Also thrilled to see Melanie Nakagawa joining the NSC on climate. She's seen and done so much on this issue, from the Senate and to the State Department, and will be a terrific team member addressing the climate crisis.
Jon Finer will be a superb Deputy National Security Advisor to @jakejsullivan. He was an excellent @StateDept chief of staff to me and offered invaluable counsel on every decision. He's ready on day one. twitter.com/Transition46/s…
An uplifting prayer for the new year from the always thoughtful @DrBiden. twitter.com/DrBiden/status…
The author sounds like he probably also believes I should drop the title "Secretary" because only women are secretaries. Disgraceful. twitter.com/DouglasEmhoff/…
Five years ago today, the world gathered to adopt the Paris Agreement on climate change. On day one of the Biden-Harris administration, we will rejoin the Paris Agreement.

President-elect @JoeBiden isn’t just committed to re-entering Paris, but building on it to raise the world’s ambition. Five years ago, it was a privilege to be in "the room where it happens” as we negotiated Paris - and I can’t wait to get back to work on America’s team. twitter.com/JoeBiden/statu…
.@AmbassadorRice is one of the most brilliant, tenacious, and determined colleagues I’ve ever known. She's incredibly talented and has the ability to draw skilled people to her side. She's always been a great teammate and will be superb leading the Domestic Policy Council.
Thrilled that @DenisMcDonough is coming back: No one knows more about how government works and how to MAKE IT work. From NSC to WH CoS, he’s seen the sacrifice that our troops make and he wants nothing but the best for them when they come home.
President-elect @JoeBiden made a terrific choice in Lloyd Austin. Lloyd is service personified. I respected him when he was leading CENTCOMM, and he sees climate change as the national security threat that it is. A true patriot.
Climate change is an existential crisis. Life on this planet is being threatened. But it’s not all doom and gloom, we have a major opportunity to change our course. @JoeBiden is challenging us to win the battle against the climate crisis – I’m ready to take that on.
But I do know this: he’ll be looking down on January 20th to see his friend become our 46th president - and he beams with pride every day knowing you picked up his torch. (2/2)
Will - I can't pretend to know what this year has been like for you. There have been so many moments where I wanted to grab the phone to hear what your dad thought of the campaign - so I can only imagine how you've been feeling that sensation each day. (1/2) twitter.com/WillRasky/stat…
The president-elect is right to rejoin the Paris Agreement on Day One. And he is right to recognize that Paris alone is not enough. All nations must raise ambition together, or we will all fail together. And failure is not an option.
It'll be an honor to work with our allies and partners, alongside rising young leaders in the climate movement, to tackle the climate crisis with the seriousness and urgency it deserves.
Linda! Reunited! You will be as amazing in Turtle Bay as you were in Foggy Bottom. You really are the best of the Foreign Service and the best of America. twitter.com/LindaT_G/statu…
Honored to be a part of this talented team. Let's roll up our sleeves. Onwards! twitter.com/JoeBiden/statu…
The work we began with the Paris Agreement is far from done. I'm returning to government to get America back on track to address the biggest challenge of this generation and those that will follow. The climate crisis demands nothing less than all hands on deck.
