Hope is an antidote to cynicism; and cynicism is the best ally of the status quo. Hope is the belief that the world can be better if you do the work to make it so. Hope is a muscle that requires work and determination – which is why I'm more connected to Hard-Edged Hope.
While risk of unintended consequences is real, so is the promise of the potential of INtended consequences. @Ryanphelan6 inspires and challenges with her powerful talk on using biotechnology to conserve and protect wildlife species. ted.com/talks/ryan_phe…

A corporation acts morally when it balances its rights to a just profit with its responsibilities for the common good—upon which it depends and profits. -- Richard Rohr

G’mar tov, and an easy fast to those observing Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, today. May this be a day for all of us to reflect on where we have created hurts in the past year & renew and refresh from them, so that we can better think on the world that we could build together.

Perhaps the best antidote to fear and even to compassion fatigue, is gratitude. To stand where you are and feel blessed.
May we take this day to remember and to reflect on the best that we can be and to recommit to our neighbors, and to the larger world, to reach out with more love, with more curiosity.
The months after that tragic day in New York City brought forth an explosion of love and solIdarity, a reminder of our collective resilience.
So many lives were lost and it is to all of us to remember them,to hold their families close and to keep their spirits alive. So many heroes gave their lives in service of others, and it is to us to hold their courageous spirits. We have so much to remember and so much to learn.
Twenty-years ago, on September 11th, we were moving into Acumen’s new offices located across from Trinity Church, just next to the World Trade Towers. I watched both the first and second plane go into the towers; and we all knew in that moment that the world had changed.
I came across this passage as well as a picture of Teresia, who I met in rural Kenya about a decade ago. The words reminded me once again that while my work is based in the practice of investing, we do it best when it is infused w/ moral imagination #FBF linkedin.com/pulse/infusing…
Discussions like these give me hope that together we can build a future with our shared humanity at its center. #fortuneconnect
We spoke about moral imagination, how to rebuild philanthropy in a way that works for those it seeks to serve, the iteration process of a social entrepreneur and steps corporate partners need to take to truly engage in rebuilding the institutions that are no longer serving us.
Grateful to begin my day with @ellmcgirt and @FortuneMagazine #fortuneconnect this morning. I always learn so much from these communities of change makers working to make an impact.

We need more such examples. On this Labor Day, let us all remember and give thanks to those who toil to make the goods and deliver the services that make our lives work.
Im inspired by new models of business–@foreverytable in the US that is giving employees the chance to start franchises;@AzaharCoffee in Colombia that focuses on paying sustainable prices to smallholder farmers;or @labournet in India helping low-skilled workers to start businesses
Dignified work is a cornerstone of a moral framework to build a “new economy” that puts our shared humanity and the sustainability of the earth at the center of our systems.
The opposite of poverty is not wealth. The opposite of poverty is dignity – the ability to make your own decisions, to feel able to contribute.

I'm definitely watching carbon markets, inc voluntary ones. By tapping into carbon markets, our cookstove investment Burn reduces the prices of a stove from $40 to $5 for poor women. They in turn use half the wood needed previously, save money and time and help conserve forests. twitter.com/CarbonCredits/…
