The disaster on the border between Poland and Belarus where children are freezing to death in the forest whilst in sight of a place of safety and warmth is a shame on all of us. My contribution at today’s Parliamentary Assembly at the @coe.
Wikileaks exposed crimes of US empire. The perpetrators of these crimes walk free but should be held accountable for the lives and futures they stole. I pay tribute to the work of Julian’s legal team, and extend my solidarity to his fiancé, Stella, and their two children. twitter.com/corbyn_project…

Airstrikes in Yemen last night killed more than 60 people dead and caused a nationwide internet blackout. The UK government is complicit in these crimes through arming and training the Saudi-led war on Yemen. Arms sales to Saudi Arabia must end now. reuters.com/world/middle-e…
Yesterday I spoke in the debate on #BuildingSafetyBill. Residents and leaseholders must have statutory protection from ALL fire safety defect costs and a national Gov led mission to carry out the required works at pace. Gov must insert these provisions into the Bill urgently.

Many of my constituents in Islington are still at risk of debt and financial hardship from footing the bill for defective cladding issues. The #BuildingSafetyBill leaves too many unanswered questions, and thousands of people up and down the country in desperate need of answers.
This is a humanitarian disaster of massive proportions. 9 million people are short of food and there’s a lack of medical supplies due to prevention of trucks getting into Tigray. My speech in today’s Westminster Hall debate on the situation in Ethiopia:
New #InequalityKills report from @Oxfam shows wealth of world’s richest men has doubled while 99% of people are poorer. I support their call for progressive taxes on wealth to fund public services.
History will judge very harshly those governments that have used military means to repel refugees at a time of crisis around the world. My response to today’s Urgent Question on the role of the military in dealing with migrants crossing the English Channel:

Our freedom to protest is under attack. The #PolicingBill would throw protestors into prison for doing exactly the same as the Suffragettes did. For all those who fought for our freedoms, throughout history, we must #KillTheBill. #PCSCBill

Protest gives people hope, opportunity and the dream of a better world. My speech at today’s #KillTheBill demonstration in Parliament Square.
Today marks the 60th birthday of Dr Abduljalil AlSingace, who is jailed in #Bahrain. He continues a 190+ day hunger strike to demand the return of confiscated research. I stand in solidarity with him & other political prisoners. The UK must call for his freedom. #FreeAlSingace
Thank you to @BirdBahrain_ and so many others who have continued to campaign tirelessly for human rights in Bahrain.
“We’re here to speak for justice and human rights around the world, and today our focus is on Bahrain. I hope they’re listening…” My speech in today’s debate on the ongoing detention of Bahraini political prisoners.
The government breaks the rules - and not just over the lockdown parties. It unlawfully handed out PPE contracts using a "VIP lane" reserved for referrals from MPs, ministers and senior officials. We need a full independent investigation now. morningstaronline.co.uk/article/b/gove…
The scandal of unliveable outsourced accommodation for refugees must end. They deserve so much better. theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/j…
Government rhetoric about the soaring energy prices and the cost of living is shallow and empty. Last night I voted to bring about an end to the welfare cap which impacts so heavily on the most vulnerable in society.
Leaseholders all over the country deserve an immediate answer. Watch my response to today’s Ministerial Statement on building safety.
All the evidence shows that the £20 Universal Credit cut is deeply damaging our society and economy. It must be reserved, and an uplift also applied for people on legacy benefits, who have been treated abhorrently by this callous Government.

Shocked at the sad loss of Jack Dromey, who was involved in the Labour movement for decades - first in the TGWU union and then as an MP - speaking out passionately on many issues, from supporting the Grunswick dispute to council housing. My condolences to his family and friends

The continuing silence of the Government on the issue of Statutory Sick Pay is deafening. We have the least generous SSP scheme in Europe - it must urgently be made available to all and increased to a real living wage level. #RaiseSickPayForAll

Over a decade of Tory austerity has decimated opportunities for millions of young people across the country We need real and urgent action for a better future: 👉 creating decent jobs 👉 ending student debt 👉 stopping extortionate rent 👉 rebuilding community and youth services
Children are heading back to school all over the country. I fully support the @NEUnion call for urgent action to reduce Covid disruption, including through funding for improving ventilation. There must be the provision of clean air in every classroom. twitter.com/NEUnion/status…
During this pandemic, unions have played a vital role defending workers and calling for action to protect health, jobs and livelihoods. Now, the Tories are yet again attacking our unions. In 2022, we must stand up for our unions and workers' rights. politicshome.com/thehouse/artic…

“There is nothing more wasteful in the world than consigning children to a life of poverty where they don’t achieve their potential, and the whole society loses out. We’re all damaged by inequality…” An honour to address @lopezobrador_’s daily press conference today.

Sad to hear of the passing of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, an incredible fighter who dedicated his life to standing against the injustices of war, LGBT discrimination and apartheid in South Africa and Palestine.
Season’s greetings to all my constituents in Islington North, and people across the world. Please stay safe and do what you can to support others. The spirit of this Festive Season always makes me feel that together we can build a fairer, more equal society which works for all.
It's a disgrace how many people are going hungry this Christmas and a direct result of wrong Tory priorities. The Trussell Trust gave out 2.5 m. emergency food parcels last year and predicts it will give out 7,000 a day this month. We need real action for people’s #righttofood.

The Government must urgently develop a real plan to tackle homelessness and the housing crisis, including through a massive council house building scheme. 2/2
Despite living in the 6th biggest world economy, far too many people are living with no place to call their home in Britain this Christmas. Now, thousands more who have been affected by the pandemic risk losing their home after support such as the £20 UC boost was withdrawn 1/2
Too many people will have to make a choice between heating and eating this Christmas. Even before the recent energy price hikes, 13% of households in England were classed as being in fuel poverty. Now is the time to bring energy into public ownership and properly cap prices.
