This #FathersDay I hope you are sharing good times with (or happy memories of) your dad - or someone who for whatever reason is a special dad-like person to you.
As Speaker John Bercow stood up for Parliament during one of the most turbulent periods in British politics. I look forward to campaigning with him for social justice and peace in the future.
While covid19 saw online communication become a lifeline, many people with learning disabilities have been left out due to a lack of appropriate devices, skills & internet connection. Could you help @Hftonline and #BeABuddy? #LonelinessAwarenessWeek hft.org.uk/blog/lockdown-…
Looking forward to joining panel on day 2 of @ProgIntl summit on #VaccineInternationalism If you missed it, watch yesterday’s plenary on my Facebook page or read my interview with @Outlookindia’s Preetha Nair @bhadrakali20 on why we can’t rely on Covax. outlookindia.com/website/story/…
Today I’ll be joining the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign rally online at 1pm. 37 years after the the miners’ strike, families are still waiting for the truth about what really went on behind the scenes. #orgreavejustice
Thinking of the family & friends of Makram Ali, killed four years ago by an Islamophobic terrorist who also injured nine others outside @FPMosque. The legacy of that night is that our diverse community became closer and more determined than ever to #StandUpForPeace #constituency
I'm speaking at today's Summit on Vaccine Internationalism. Read more about our plans for #VaccineEquality here: independent.co.uk/voices/vaccine… Watch the summit (subtitles available) live here: pscp.tv/w/1nAKELAQmonxL
The report on the #ManchesterBombing will have brought back incredibly painful memories for all those involved. No one should ever have to come home from a gig or an event without their loved ones again. #ManchesterStrong
I’m proud that an Islington North lad is among those who contributed to the Student Commission on Racial Justice report out later today @LeadersUnlocked. Evidence collected on their peers’ experiences will be invaluable in working to reduce racism in our society.
However you travel this #CleanAirDay, please take a moment to think about your impact on the planet. We need more affordable, accessible public transport - especially outside towns & cities - and more cycling and walking for those who are able. #ActiveTravel #AirPollution
Fed up with the government’s attitude towards cronyism & the stealth privatisation of our NHS ? Join @pplsassembly this Saturday 26 June at midday in Portland Place, London. Then we’ll march (bring masks, stay safe) to Parliament Square to tell the Tories they’re #NotFitToGovern
Disgraceful move by Naftali Bennett to commence his term with violence and not negotiation. Thousands of people have been left devastated, living among rubble following the recent spate of violence on Gaza. The bombing must immediately cease.
Five years ago two children lost their mum and a husband lost his partner. A constituency lost a crusading MP and Labour lost a young woman destined for even greater things. Remembering Jo Cox today. #moreincommon
This week @BarryGardiner launches an important campaign around Fire & ReHire - where firms get rid of staff and then take them on again but offering lower wages and inferior working conditions. I’m supporting his Private Members Bill to #StopFireAndReHire stopfireandrehire.org
The situation in Tigray province, #Ethiopia is worsening every day. Reports of sexual violence, mass killings and the use of child soldiers mean we cannot look away - especially when two million are also facing starvation. #YesterdayInParliament I called for an arms embargo.
This evening on @LBC, I recalled speaking to the emergency services after the fire at #Grenfell Tower. Once they’d explained how quickly it spread, my first thought was ‘There’s a fundamental design fault. Why on earth are we covering buildings with something that can catch fire?
Tune in to @LBC this evening between 7.15-7.30pm when I’ll be talking to @IainDale about the #Grenfell Tower fire and why people are still waiting for justice 4 years on, the extension to lockdown restrictions and possibly something about bears...
Israel’s new Prime Minister @naftalibennett has a fresh opportunity to work to bring peace to the region by ending the occupation and settlement building in Palestine and the siege of Gaza.
Four years ago 72 lives were lost in the #Grenfell Tower fire. Almost as many people injured. Hundreds made homeless. Instead of the builders, thousands across the country are expected to cover the costs of the cladding catastrophe. This government has failed in its duty of care.
Take a look at what @ScarlettOWest says young people want. A future that nurtures the environment, favours a green economy & recognises women & girls deserve a better deal. Do these things; equality, a safer planet & new greener jobs, matter to you too? independent.co.uk/climate-change…
Really pleased to hear footballer Christian Eriksen is recovering after collapsing on the pitch during yesterday’s game. Sending my best wishes and thanks to the medics and players who care for him. Hoping all fans will join me in saying rigtig god bedring Christian! #GetWellSoon
At today’s Justice For Palestine demonstration in London, I also called for a halt to arms sales. UK-made weapons are killing civilians - including children - in conflicts abroad. This must stop.
Halfway through #PrideMonth2021 & there’s no better time to celebrate how far we’ve come in accepting each other & our ways of loving. But there are places where being #OutAndProud can be dangerous - there’s still work to be done in order for people to live & love in peace.
Last month @LSEnews launched a report calling for a shared international vision regarding the move towards a sustainable, resilient & inclusive economic recovery Does Boris Johnson share this vision & will he commit to implementing the recommendations? #G7 lse.ac.uk/granthaminstit…
Why is Boris Johnson starting a new nuclear arms race? We need our money spent on the NHS, jobs and climate not a bigger nuclear arsenal. It's time to stop government spending on nuclear weapons. cnduk.org/join/

What a brilliant way to highlight how much electronic waste - 53 million tonnes - we produce each year. Mount Recyclemore by sculptor Joe Rush reminds us to #reuse #recycle and dispose of unwanted items in a responsible way - too much goes to landfill. #G7
Police have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of a young man in Hornsey yesterday. My condolences to his family and friends. This is the first shooting in our community for a long time. If you can help the inquiry, please 📞 101 & quote CAD5570/08Jun
Thanks to everyone who stood up against the Tories’ NHS patient #DataGrab. Ministers are now postponing the ridiculous June 23rd deadline (the date you needed to opt out by, if you don’t want your info to be sold/transferred to third parties including businesses) to September 1st
Join me this evening at 7pm for a @LiberationOrgUK zoom meeting to discuss the occupation in Palestine. Guests include @AidaTouma, a Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset, Louise Regan aka @pscupcakes & @MattWrack Register via : wwe.liberation.co.uk or eventbrite.
John McDonnell’s new podcast with @ClaimFuture is well worth a listen. There’s a wealth of history that you might not know about the struggle of the working class. Listen to John and his guests discuss the Peasants’ Revolt in the first episode here: peoples-history.simplecast.com
Today on #WorldOceanDay let’s shine a light on all who are working to keep our water resources clean and pollution-free. It was a pleasure to meet @sascampaigns on the beach in Cornwall a few years ago. Best wishes for today’s #YouthOceanSummit m.youtube.com/watch?v=cOmSPO…
Join me & @pplsassembly from 12.00 midday on Saturday June 26th to #DemandANewNormal #NoMoreAusterity (please don’t forget masks & safety precautions)
David Dushman, the last soldier to have assisted at the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp during WWII, has died aged 98. I visited to pay my respects to those who perished there and I will never forget that feeling of revulsion at the horrors that occurred.
Today in Parliament I asked the government to look again at the amount it is offering towards the cost of helping school pupils catch up on lost learning: “£50 per pupil is nowhere near what is necessary to help these young people.” #Education
It is wrong that the largest workforce in the UK - 13.6 million #UnpaidCarers who save taxpayers billions - receive no wages, time off or pension. #YoungCarers struggle at school & adults lose careers & suffer health & financial problems. #RealCarersWeek #Carers #VisibleAndValued
This, by @IanLaveryMP for @tribunemagazine is worth reading to understand what happened at the time of the Miners Strike. Ian witnessed firsthand the violence & subterfuge employed against the striking workers. He shows another side to the official version tribunemag.co.uk/2021/06/failin…
With just months to go before COP26, we can’t leave it to the Tories to protect the environment & our natural resources. It is up to us to take action to tackle climate change. This #WorldEnvironmentDay remember no act is too small. #Reuse #Recycle #Share #Mend #Together
Open Democracy is issuing a legal challenge to halt the government's plans to seize the GP data of everyone in England without proper consent. opendemocracy.net/en/ournhs/lega…
Using anonymised info for the benefit of us all is one thing but we mustn’t allow the Tories to sell or transfer our NHS patient data to insurance companies or entities which put profit over people. Opt out before 23 June medconfidential.org/wp-content/upl…
Fifty pounds per pupil for more than a year of disrupted education is a joke. Our schoolchildren - and the teachers and support staff who have worked so hard over the past 18 months - deserve better. #PupilPremium #CatchUp
Remembering those killed and injured during the London Bridge attacks on June 3rd 2017. Many people showed extraordinary bravery and compassion that day including the police, a local worker who helped shelter people and a passer by who lost his life saving others.
The next time someone asks you why Howard Beckett is setting up Unite TV show them this.

Sending my condolences to the family, friends and loyal customers of Tony Eastlake. Mr Eastlake, a flower seller on the Essex Road for four decades, was a familiar and vibrant member of our community.
At some point in our lives, millions of us will find ourselves caring for those who helped raise us. Supporting a parent or loved one is a huge responsibility and can be exhausting for #carers. Fixing social care so they get proper respite must be one of our urgent priorities.
The shocking story of 150,000 indigenous Canadian children, torn from their families & subjected to horrendous abuse reminds us that cultural genocide is still a blight on so many lives. Our differences & languages should be celebrated, not used as an excuse to divide communities
In May we supported food banks, gave a platform to refugee voices, and campaigned for peace and justice in Palestine. This month we want to do more – and we need your help. Become a regular supporter today at thecorbynproject.com/donate twitter.com/corbyn_project…
An independent Palestine looks no nearer in spite of moves to install a new government in Israel. Nothing suggests Naftali Bennett would support an end to the occupation, the siege and the settlements which have been condemned by the UN.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe bank holiday today. If you are lucky enough to be heading out, please be mindful of all those who have to work today or who can't be with their families and friends.
TOGETHER we can get the #StateofNature trending on Twitter! If YOU see this, PLEASE RT and join us on Saturday between 7pm & 9pm to create a storm that protects nature: team4nature.co.uk/blog/campaigns…

The situation in Colombia is worsening following @IvanDuque’s decision to militarise Cali in response to legitimate protests against austerity, tax rises & police violence. I urge the government to reconsider to avoid further loss of life. More violence is not the solution.
