I am still getting over the fact that Huggy Wuggy managed to infiltrate my child's brain because of her using YouTube, even though it was restricted. Is it possible to remove YouTube entirely from an ipad? Every time I try to delete it, she finds a way to bring it back!
I have only just encountered the phenomenon that is Huggy Wuggy. I was introduced to it by MY FOUR YEAR OLD. Like Seriously. How is it that YouTube can keep a lid on antivax talk but not HUGGY WUGGY appearances -- in an account with RESTRICTED child settings?

This should have said “central bank independence” 🤪
@izakaminska has written a great piece about our @ALTIFpodcast with Paul Tucker about Bank of England independence. Read her take here the-blindspot.com/paul-tucker-on… and also listen to the podcast on pod.fo/e/11fc05

The ALTIF podcast with Paul Tucker has sparked some related thoughts from me about whether cbanks have got too political of late, and if this has undermined their ability to keep inflation in check. the-blindspot.com/the-politicisa… cc. @Grepsul
Paul Tucker speaks with @Grepsul and Neil Collins (a Twitter hold out) about central independence in a two-part episode. This is the first part. Really worth a listen. open.spotify.com/episode/4Io0OW…

that's another par from the latest Virtu Financial earnings call FYI.
Also interesting that the HFTs are picking up on and replicating the already established internalisation practices of banks:
A little bit late to this, but looks like the old school HFTs like Virtu Financial have gone big into crypto the last couple of quarters. This from their earnings call last week caught my eye:

@pmarca Exactly, decisions are being made on behalf of actual shareholders that are contrary to their interests! Major problem with index/passive funds.

@pegobry @pmarca Exactly. Right before he died, Jack Bogle (of Vanguard fame) said index/passive funds were too great a percentage of the market and he really knew what he was talking about! There should be a shift back towards active investment. Passive has gone too far.

Tho in the case of BTC the moral (and de facto political) standpoint is centred on keeping money neutral and usable by everyone without discrimination. But this paper is right in observing anyone who can afford to be discriminatory on a moral basis is operating on a luxury level
Morals as luxury goods nber.org/papers/w30001 (Very good observation! I’ve often said that bitcoin is a luxury good for those who want their money to come with moral stand points about privacy and freedom.)

But some might argue the pathway to deneutralisation began after 2008, both as a result of the new regulatory framework that followed and the AML/KYC environment that came with it. And, of course, there was also Iran and Venezuela.
Exhibit A was the decision to seize afghan cbank reserves. Exhibit B was freezing the Russian cbank assets (and now moving to seize Russian assets entirely aljazeera.com/amp/news/2022/…)

If you have read Zoltan Pozsar’s latest, you will already have an inkling for the problem. But I daresay he is only scratching the surface of the issue. Most of the industry operates on a 90-day reserve basis. The war broke out at the end of February.
There’s a major crisis brewing in the noble gas markets - specifically in neon and helium - and it will have a meaningful impact on critical industries from semiconductors to defence and aerospace. Here’s my deep dive ($$) into what’s going on: the-blindspot.com/spotlight-on-a…

As one market insider tells me “the semiconductor war has begun but nobody in the western world seems to be any the wiser.”
One of the key issues is that 90% of neon comes from Ukraine, and the bulk of that from the Mariupol steelworks. Meanwhile, the helium market, which was already facing critical shortages, was awaiting large supplies from Russia’s LNG Amur project to alleviate them.
