Great article by a British veteran of Afghanistan. “Why has so little been said about the Afghan casualties of the past 20 years?” ⁦@labourlewistheguardian.com/commentisfree/…
AFGHANISTAN: “RESCUE FIRST, PROCESS LATER” Urgent letter sent from Afghan diaspora, Afghans in Afghanistan and friends around the world, calling on governments to help people leave first, then process the applications when they are in a safe place
Shocking attack in Stamford Hill. Very important to speak out about these horrible anti-Semitic attacks #HateCrime #Antisemitism #Racism twitter.com/Shomrim/status…
The sudden passing of Streatham Labour chair Maxine James will be sorely felt by us all in the Party and the Black community as a whole. Maxine was a devoted activist and in all the years I knew her made it her lifes work to challenge racial inequality. Rest in Power Maxine 🌹5

Thousands of people are being unlawfully held in police cells because there is a lack of mental health beds. Black people are significantly more likely to be detained in a police cell. The system must change immediately.

The UK government has rejected 32,000+ Afghan asylum claims since 2001. More Afghans have been denied asylum or deported than will be offered safety under the Government's resettlement scheme. They must urgently revise it to reflect the scale of the turmoil the UK has created. twitter.com/PeoplesMomentu…

The UK has a moral responsibility towards the people of Afghanistan. The Government must not let down refugees, women and girls, refugees, or the men and women who have lost their lives in conflict over the last 20 years #Afghanistan

We have an obligation to offer safety in the UK to men and women fleeing from violence and persecution in Afghanistan. UK support for the US-led invasion played a key role in creating the turmoil and upheaval we are now witnessing. The Government must not turn their backs.
Big congratulations @SeemaChandwani and @BillyHayesUnite A well deserved victory!

Confirmed Covid cases among the people facing deportation are yet another reason for the Government to stop this week’s mass flight. They must listen to the Jamaican government and put public health before populism #StopThePlane theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/a…
“Mass deportation flights are a signature Boris Johnson immigration and nationality tactic. They are...cruel, arbitrary, a double punishment and expensive. There needs to be a moratorium on these deportation flights.” thetimes.co.uk/article/ban-cr…

"Stop and search is a highly racialised tactic. Based on evidence it has a role to play in crime reduction. But where there is no evidence it just legitimises harassment & discrimination. Black people are nine times more likely to be stopped & searched." inews.co.uk/opinion/diane-…
"Why tag burglars on release from prison and not domestic violence offenders, or rape suspects?” Because Boris Johnson and Priti Patel's crime plan is just a series of ill-conceived gimmicks to win headlines, not a serious strategy to reduce crime. inews.co.uk/opinion/diane-…
My latest piece: Boris Johnson’s crime reduction plan is full of gimmicks to attract headlines, plus re-announced measures and policies that may even be counter-productive in fighting crime. inews.co.uk/opinion/diane-…
Solidarity @RNLI. The small number of people making the dangerous Channel crossing are not the problem. Nor are the people saving them. The real problem is the Government, which refuses to open safe routes for refugees because it relies on scapegoating them to stay in power.

Instead of making offenders wear high viz jackets in chain gangs, how about helping them get a real job instead? In my shops we employ lots of ex offenders and they wear a shirt and tie. Same people, different approach, a much better outcome.
