Last but certainly not least is Hollywood in the 1980s! We listened to critic @mangiotto share why he was drawn to films like MIRACLE MILE and NEAR DARK and how all these outsider characters helped him feel a little less alone in life.
How does Hollywood deglamorize during this era of the feminist movement? Special guest @carolynmichelle introduced us to films KLUTE and AN UNMARRIED WOMAN and shared how, in the 70s, Hollywood moved away from studio gloss and into something more gritty.
With the rise of counterculture movements, Hollywood in the 1960s needed to change. In this episode, @philanapayton talks about PARIS BLUES and GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER and illustrates how some movies about race were already outdated by the time they were released.
In this episode about Hollywood in the 1950s, @ADuralde explained how the Hays Code created a false perception of American society. We watched the classic films ALL ABOUT EVE and THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS.
Hollywood in the 1940s was the center of all things Film Noir and the iconic Femme Fatale archetype! Guest speaker @JulieGrossman1 showed how films SHADOW OF A DOUBT and ROAD HOUSE depicted the role of a femme fatale.
For the 1930s Hollywood episode, we enjoyed listening to special guest Patricia White talk about the hypocrisy that spawned from the creation of the Hays Code. Check out how we compare pre-Hays film BLONDE VENUS and post-Hays STELLA DALLAS!
The series kicked off with @StampShelley and her discussion of how history books erased how many women were in Hollywood during the 1910s and 1920s! In this episode, we explored early filmmaker and director Lois Weber and her silent film, SHOES.

I don't think it's clear to non-Americans that coupled with abortion being banned soon in many parts of the US, there is also no maternity leave, no universal health care, birth can cost thousands of $, and many jobs don't support pumping and formula can just be out of stock

With the news of Roe v. Wade being overturned, many of us are feeling devastated, overwhelmed, and even fatigued. Give yourself the space you need to feel the full weight of your emotions. We sit with our feelings today so we can have the energy to fight tomorrow.
Disabled pregnant people—esp queer & trans, poor, BIPOC, sick disabled people—WILL die because roe was overturned. The stakes aren’t just politics or economics or quality of life. Some disabled pregnant people just learned that they are going to die. They fucking MATTER.
