If I told you in early 2020 that there’d be a time when our nation, liberals and conservatives alike, would ignore rising COVID numbers and declare the pandemic over, you’d have thought I was nuts. But that’s where we are, @mehdirhasan says, we are not all in this together:

We have failed our children. Still no vaccine for <5 yo; no therapeutics for <12. Crowded classrooms without masks or other basic risk mitigation. More than 200,000 COVID orphans; many more with lifelong physical or mental health effects. What happened to putting children first?

Israel raids Jerusalem’s holiest mosque attacking worshippers during prayers on a Friday in the middle of Ramadan… so of course the media kick into gear with the “clashes erupt” headlines that obfuscate what’s happening. We never learn.

Lastly, we can’t approach the midterms and 2024 as if this is just politics as usual. Democracy is on the line. One wonders if we care as much about THAT.
Rep. Murphy expresses her concern about a socialist takeover by the left and the poll data reveals a deep concern about inflation. The cry of socialism is a red herring to maintain the status quo. And the status quo doesn’t give a damn about everyday people. Madness!
Many economists claimed that the Build Back Better legislation would have helped reduce inflation, but we heard cries from the opposition of the threat of a “socialist” takeover. Now there is the complaint that the Democrats aren’t addressing inflation. It’s maddening.
I keep thinking, and I know it is a bit abstract, that we are suffocating under the weight of 18th/19th century sins…still.
