Anil Seth’s book sounds interesting but are there any others out there that I should read?
Can anyone recommend any good books (or articles, podcasts) about consciousness? Something examining the neuroscience (our current understanding in terms of neurophysiology, evolutionary biology etc.) rather than just philosophy.
About to see the very first performance of the Bake Off Musical and I am sooooo excited! And also feeling incredibly proud of my boyfriend @hassallmatt who is the Assistant Director and has worked his socks off!
Amazing how higher UK debt suddenly becomes acceptable when the money is for tax cuts rather than benefits or public services.

Where is a good place for dinner around Shaftesbury Avenue that isn’t too pricey and has excellent air conditioning? The air conditioning being the most important part of this.
Rory Stewart meditates in the lotus position in a Nepalese monastery, eyes closed. His hair ruffles in the breeze. Goat bells clank in the distance. Four members of the 1922 committee approach nervously. Stewart (eyes still closed): I’ve been expecting you.

“And your specialist subject is?” “British politics between 1500 and 1640” “What is it about those 140 years you like?” “Oh sorry, I meant 3pm and 4.40pm on 6th June 2022”

Neither a hint of humility nor a trace of an apology in that speech. Just the same old electioneering guff about empty policy he never had a plan to deliver. Good riddance.
If you had 2 hours to kill in the West End and wanted to go somewhere chilled out to read your book with a pint/cake where would you go?
I'm a very experienced A&E nurse and my wage is so low that as a widowed single parent I also receive universal credit. So don't you dare use the fact that as a life saver, I've been undervalued by government as an excuse to bash the #RMTstrikes ! They are paving the way for me.

I wrote some words for the Guardian about my relationship with sugar and the conflict that comes from being both a baker and a doctor. Knowing you need to cut down is one thing, actually doing it is the hard part. Even for us doctors.. theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2…
Everything Everywhere All At Once was weird, funny and wonderful. You should all go see it now!
The absolute joy of realising I can get the Overground instead of the Central line for my commute this morning.
YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉twitter.com/BBC/status/152…lQyjAEt
My parents’ lawn is covered in these pretty little flowers. Anyone know what they are?
I don’t understand why anyone would believe this is a victory for free speech… No one spends $45 billion just because they love free speech.
Elon Musk buying Twitter… Is this not just the modern version of Rupert Murdoch buying the Times/Sun/Wall Street Journal? ie. another really really rich guy buying a media organisation to further his power and influence.
genuinely cannot think of anything to say about this that would not be career damaging if not career ruining, in what world does this get to be called journalism twitter.com/MoS_Politics/s…

Stumbled across this place on my way to work! This sounds slightly morbid but London really has some lovely cemeteries.
Student loan interest rates expected to rise from 4.5% to 12% for high earners and from 1.5% to 9% for low earners from September. An average grad with £50k debt will incur £2,200 to £3000 in interest over 6 months, just in case young wallets haven't been hit hard enough.

A lovely thing to come home to: the latest book by @theguyliner Looking forward to losing myself in these pages over the weekend!
Just a reminder - this all started because Channel 4 News ran an item about Boris Johnson’s dad that he didn’t like, and because they replaced him with a block of ice when he didn’t turn up at their election debate. Not because anyone else wants it. theguardian.com/media/2022/apr…

Ok, I’m quite happy with these.
Look at the layers on this thing!!
Paris brunch today (last one of the trip 😭😭😭): Pain au chocolat, mont-blanc, praline patisserie, a wonderful laminated pastry smoked-salmon thing from Yann Couvrer and a latke from the Jewish bakery. I’m going to really miss Pariq97
Breakfast today was this exceptional Lemon Tart at Ladurée. So many different techniques and textures, all in celebration of the little yellow fruit. I’ll be thinking about this for a long time!
Breakfast today: baguette, palmier, croissant and canelé. With lots of the amazing butter too!
So tempted to get some canelé moulds but they are soooooo expensive! 😭😭T4W
I maybe went a little bit overboard with breakfast this morning…
Walking back from my first dinner in Paris, painfully full. But discovered this on the way so that’s breakfast sorted.
Sitting here on my 95 minute, post-night shift commute home, thinking yes, the tube strikes are annoying. But.. I’m glad there’s still one group of workers able to effectively fight for their pay and conditions. Maybe it’ll rub off on the rest of us?! #tubestrike
Heading to Paris for a few days in March - mostly planning to alternate between nice walks and eating (with a little bit of art in between). Do any of you have recommendations for nice patisseries/restaurants/cafes/places to look wistful whilst scribbling in a notebook?
After 3 1/2 years of living in Peckham we’ll soon be moving to Walthamstow! So, Walthamstowians - I need your recommendations please! What are your favourite places to eat, get coffee, quiet places to work, bakeries (obviously), running/walking spots?
Is it weirder that French exchanges are no longer a thing, or that they were ever a thing?
The 'only the users should pay' argument against the BBC is very similar to the one rich Americans use to rail against universal healthcare. You'll be paying for that soon too, enjoy your Monday.

It's insane how these people bang on about 'global Britain' and how colossal we're going to be on the world stage, while doing everything they can to trash the core institutions our international reputation is based on.

I know that commenting on how amazing Succession is, is about as insightful as noting that rain is wet but seriously, this week’s episode… OH MY GOD 🤯 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Twitter, I need saving from the endless task of trying to find a Friday night film to watch. What film (from any of the usual streamers) would you recommend for a 9yo, 14yo and me to watch?
