Good morning y'all. Unfortunately, we've made the decision to postpone today's hike in response to the weather. Stay tuned for the new date announcement and updates. 💚UR

May 1-7, 2022 is #BlackMammalogistsWeek I'm the unoffical/official Auntie of the group as all the other co-organizers are post docs, grad students and/or young enough to be my chirrens. LOL But look out for fun & engaging posts. tag @BlkMammalogists if you want more info
Disclaimer (before y’all get to speculating): this has been on my spirit lately and was inspired by previous situations I’ve dealt with as well as situations that I’ve observed and witnessed other Black people in academia deal with. #ThatIsAll Have a great day 😘

And thats just a trash way to have to go through academia if you ask me… but still we persist because somehow, someway, and someday, it could be better and we want to make it better for the trainees coming after us but whew y’all make it oh so hard 😒

The only things that might help us in these situations are the receipts we keep of our work (b/c we know that the BS is going to come eventually) and ppl advocating on our behalf… but in the end we realize that we just can’t trust ppl and end up governing ourselves accordingly.

I'm popping bubbles left and right today with the nieces (3&4/5). We don't have spirit animals and you can't have pet cheetahs.

@HunndoHefner First, it doesn’t take 3 cops to sort this out. Second, snatch the bag from the kid, have him go to the store and apologize. If a member of the community says they will rectify it, then let them. Stop using force where being humane would have yielded a better response

I also want to clarify—there’s a lot of reading between the lines that goes on in assessing this stuff. It isn’t damning if someone doesn’t mention their PI. It’s not even necessarily damning if several people from that lab don’t. But it’s worth keeping an eye on. twitter.com/cricketcrocker…

Happy Tuesday. Make it Great!! (Also break a leg @IBJIYONGI at #TED2022)
#InterveningMentorship is this a thing? I feel like this describes a LOT of my invisible labor in academia especially related to 1st Gen, URM and International Students twitter.com/cterminiPHD/st…
This assumption also discounts supplemental mentorship received when others intervene (often behind the scenes) and resuscitate a mentee so they can achieve their goals. Ask the mentee - don’t ever assume success came from excellent advisor mentorship.

I became a @TEDFellow in 2010. I was young, idealistic and a dreamer. The fellowship impacted my life and the work l do. TED took me to Oxford, California, Vancouver and RIO where I gave a TED talk that has been watched by millions. It’s been an incredible journey. #Ted2022

Do I have any friends/followers that work for the government (e.g., NOAA/Forest Service/Geological Survey)? I am seriously thinking about leaving academia for good and would love to chat with people in government positions to learn more.

Historically excluded trainees in STEM can ALWAYS see through the people that do “diversity work” for the CV boost… And with the way this generation of trainees are set up, don’t be mad when they start to call y’all out too 🤷🏾‍♀️

@DNLee5 Everyone should decide for themselves, based on their assessment, whether they should wear a seatbelt and drive a car equipped with airbags. Car manufacturers can choose not to exercise these precautions, and instead put the onus on individuals to decide the acceptable risk. /s

One of the most heartbreaking experiences over the last year or so, but especially the last few months, is seeing posts from people who are expressing their frustration & confusion about not feeling better a month out from their mild Covid case.
