To have the best chance of halting the diseases that cause dementia, we need to intervene decades earlier, years before symptoms start to show. I’m proud to chair @AlzResearchUK’s @EDoNInitiative, which is helping make this possible. twitter.com/AlzResearchUK/…
They’ve done it!! Our amazing @Lionesses are #WEURO2022 champions!! HUGE congratulations - this is thoroughly well deserved. Well done & (from a dad with two daughters) THANK YOU for inspiring a nation & creating such an important legacy. This is your very special moment - enjoy!
Sending all the luck in the world to our fearless @Lionesses for the #WEURO2022 final at @wembleystadium tonight. The whole nation is willing you on and, whatever happens, we are all immensely proud of what you’ve achieved. One more match to go - go for it!
10 years ago today The Queen parachuted into Stratford to open the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was, by far, my favourite fortnight as PM, showcasing the UK to the world. It still stands out as the best Olympics ever & left a proud legacy. The UK wowed the world- happy memories!
My thoughts & heartfelt condolences to Daphne & his family. We have lost a political heavyweight, a true visionary & a great man.
A thoroughly kind, gentle, thoughtful man - he also showed immense courage, grit & determination. I was proud to welcome him to the Conservative Party in the House of Lords. He was in politics for the right reasons & both he & his legacy will be remembered for generations.
Such desperately sad news that David Trimble has died. As an architect of the Good Friday Agreement, he took significant political risks, but in doing so helped bring the parties of Northern Ireland together for the first time to achieve a lasting peace.
As a committed & proud champion for the environment, I was delighted to share UK @Conservatives policy experience with @GOP Members of Congress & advisers at @ACC_National & discuss the future of climate policy in the US. It’s vital that conservatives lead on this critical issue.
The current @Conservatives leadership contest to be our next PM is the most diverse ever. But this didn't happen by accident; it's been years in the making. Read my article in the @thetimes about how, starting in 2005, we really did 'Change to Win': thetimes.co.uk/article/david-…
Something I certainly don’t miss about being PM is the weekly trauma of PMQs. Here I join Politico’s Westminster Insider to discuss this very peculiar, very British and, actually, very important part of our political system. Top listening for our next PM! politico.eu/podcast/inside…
Great to attend @racingdementia Forum at @SilverstoneUK. @AlzResearchUK is proud to partner with Race Against Dementia to fund the researchers of tomorrow. It was inspiring to meet some of them and hear about their work to #MakeBreakthroughsPossible for dementia.
Last week I spoke to the @TutuFellows participating in The Archbishop Tutu Leadership Programme, run by the African Leadership Institute & @OxfordSBS. Such a talented & inspiring group representing a dozen nations & with their hopes & ideas proving that Africa has a bright future
This is devastating and truly shocking news. Shinzo Abe was a good friend personally, a strong partner to the UK, and a thoroughly kind and decent man. I enjoyed working with him. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and to the people of Japan at this very sad time.
Most alarmed to hear the terrible news from Japan this morning regarding the appalling attack on my friend and former colleague Shinzo Abe. Sending him and his family my thoughts and prayers at this worrying time.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Britain’s first Pride march I'm pleased to join all UK Prime Ministers to write in @theipaper today about the progress we’ve made over the last half century & how proud I am to have introduced equal marriage #Pride50 inews.co.uk/news/six-prime…
As we pass 100 days since the start of Russia’s appalling and completely unjustified invasion of Ukraine, I joined @marthamaccallum on @FoxNews this weekend to discuss the ongoing crisis: youtube.com/watch?v=EhcZsB…
As the nation comes together today to give our heartfelt thanks to Her Majesty The Queen on her #PlatinumJubilee, my tribute below:
On this very special #PlatinumJubilee, I join the whole nation & Commonwealth in celebrating Her Majesty The Queen's extraordinary reign & thanking her for such remarkable & unwavering service over 70 years. There is no greater public servant the world over. God save The Queen!
As we start this special week of celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen's #PlatinumJubilee, I was delighted to join @Emmabarnett on @bbcworldservice to discuss The Queen's role as our country’s greatest diplomat. Listen here: bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3c…
Delighted Richard Walker is becoming an @AlzResearchUK Ambassador! @IcelandCharity are already amazing supporters of dementia research and I know having Richard on board will take that to the next level. Thank you @icelandrichard and looking forward to working together. twitter.com/AlzResearchUK/…
The full @Policy_Exchange report, including my Foreword, can be found here: policyexchange.org.uk/publication/de…
In their important report published today, @Policy_Exchange has lifted the lid on how a vocal minority is attempting to undermine efforts to prevent such radicalisation. We can't let the Prevent strategy be defeated by extremists. My article in @thetimes: thetimes.co.uk/article/we-can…
Extremism sows division and hatred and threatens our way of life. It's crucial that we counter the warped extremist narrative that drives many to violence and jeopardises the cohesion that is vital to Britain's success.
The pandemic has shown us the power of scientific research. The UK Vaccine Taskforce was an absolute triumph – now we can, and must, do the same for dementia. Listen below to the latest Stories of our times podcast: thetimes.co.uk/podcasts/stori…
Ultimately, this can’t go ahead if blocked in the courts but I hope the Government will pursue and exhaust all legal avenues.
This is incredibly disappointing news. I believe the arguments for a new Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre located next to Parliament - the home of our precious democracy - are compelling. This project has my overwhelming support. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-610385…
Great to see this latest breakthrough study. The more we understand about the potential causes of Alzheimer’s disease, the more equipped we become to treat it. #ResearchWillWin twitter.com/AlzResearchUK/…
Earlier today I joined @DanaPerino & @BillHemmer on @FoxNews @AmericaNewsroom to discuss the urgent need for the West to redouble our efforts in support of Ukraine. Let's do everything we can economically to show that Putin’s Russia is a pariah state. video.foxnews.com/v/630231651400…
Judge Putin by his deeds, not by his words. Plus, why Putin must play no part in the G20. My interview with @JohnBerman on @CNN today. twitter.com/JohnBerman/sta…
Putin’s tactics in Ukraine are truly horrific. Innocent civilians continue to be abducted & deported to Russia. I join @zminaUkraine & the people of Ukraine in demanding the immediate release & safe return of #TheTaken. On this Day of Action, show Putin that the world is watching
Dementia is not an inevitable part of ageing; it’s caused by diseases of the brain. I’m proud to be working with @AlzResearchUK to change perceptions and raise vital funds for research.
“We need to prime the pump with research & money & resources”. On @NickFerrariLBC earlier, discussing dementia research & what I’m doing as President of @AlzResearchUK to help get treatments over the line.
10 years ago I launched the Dementia Challenge. We've made great progress in dementia research since & are on the cusp of life-changing treatments. But we need to go further, faster & act now to make this a reality. My interview today in @thesundaytimes thetimes.co.uk/article/david-…
With all that's going on in the world at the moment, I was pleased to join the impressive international students at @sciencespo Paris this week to discuss everything from the heinous war in Ukraine to environmental policy; integration issues to Brexit. Thank you for your welcome.
As this dreadful war continues, the ultimate question for world leaders will be blunt and simple: Did you do everything you possibly could to help? My @WSJ article on why I fear we’ve got some way to go before we get to a full-throated “yes”. wsj.com/articles/boyco…
Thank you to everyone involved. To Rizvana and the Chippy Larder for organising. To Bruern Farms for all their hard work and support. And, especially, to those in and near Chipping Norton who donated so generously. Now for the long drive back…! #StandWithUkraine 🇺02
So nearly 1,000 miles covered, over 20 hours of driving, and one successful delivery made.
The work that the Polish Red Cross are doing around the clock to assist Ukrainian refugees is truly inspiring, and knows no bounds. They are being supported throughout by the Polish public services and local communities. It was heartwarming and humbling to see.
We arrived at the Red Cross warehouse in Poland at about 10pm. Huge thanks to all the volunteers and local firemen for their warm welcome, and for helping unload our lorry, full of essential donated supplies for refugees arriving in Poland.
We then made good time. Solidarity with our Ukrainian neighbours being so clearly displayed on the motorways across Germany and Poland spurred us on.
Note to self: next time hire a van with a spare tyre! Thank you to the brilliant mechanic in Germany who put us back on the road.
Ukraine delivery update… Yesterday was more eventful than we anticipated. Having hit the road before dawn our eagerness soon proved futile as our tyre blew on the motorway! This put the schedule back half a day…
Delivery successfully made! #StandWithUkraine? 🇺2z
And talking of driving, there’s lots still to do! Today we head into Poland for the delivery. More later… #StandWithUkraine?
It’s her leadership, tenacity and relentless positive energy that got the Chippy Larder off the ground and made it into the outstanding community resource it is today. It’s her drive that got us here.
Another very early start this morning. Great to be doing this with the amazing Rizvana Poole - a Labour town Councillor from Chipping Norton. It’s a cross party effort!
I'm currently driving to Poland with two Chippy Larder colleagues to make our delivery to the Red Cross. It’s going to be a long drive, but I’ll keep you updated along the way. #StandWithUkraine?
The generosity of the community in West Oxfordshire - and of the British people more generally - has been typically phenomenal, stepping up to help our neighbours in their hour of need. 🇬🇧🇺🇦
… into this - to fill a small lorry with everything from nappies to sanitary products, warm clothes to first aid kits.
