As a teenager I was told by a teacher that I’d never succeed in a career if I carried on the way I was (I was struggling with the effects of a severe childhood trauma & my behaviour was disruptive) I proved that teacher wrong #SeniorCriticalCareNurse twitter.com/DrJessTaylor/s…

As a child I expressed my trauma through drawing. Only 1 prompted a teacher to ask my family if everything was ok at home. Excuses were made. Nothing was done. But I continued to draw, and write stories. When abused children can’t speak, they will show you in a different way #csa

Bringing the real words of the survivors into #theflyingchildproject was so important. If I stand up and tell my story, it risks ‘othering’ the issue and me becoming the ‘freak show.’We all need the opportunity to be heard, and make change, not just the one who shouts the loudest twitter.com/IndigoDaya/sta…

@flying_project Thank you for sharing this. Reminded me of my own experiences of being in groups with fellow survivors. I felt isolated and alone with my pain, but hearing others speak I connected instantly what they were saying as the same emotions were in my head. I was not alone anymore

@flying_project Thank you for sharing this, I had very similar feelings when I went to a survivors group with @SARSAS_uk but it was one of the most empowering experiences in my recovery journey, overcoming the shame and finding connection and strength through the other amazing survivors.

@PoetProdigal @StevenJPayton I forgot the first 6 years of my life when it happened and woke from a bed like I was just born. I was only living there a month or two before it happened. It is upsetting to me that it must be really bad for it to erased my whole life even if it was only 6 years. #csaqt

@natasha367b @smile4wales I would be interested to read it too. Where will you find it? #csaqt
Retweeted by survivor chat #CSAQT
@smile4wales @StevenJPayton That definitely was driver for what I did. Even going to trial was to protect a particular child, along with others. I wanted no one else to be hurt and if anyone else was out there, they knew it was ok to come forward #csaqt

@PoetProdigal @smile4wales Thank you. Sorry to change the topic on everyone, but this was too important not to share. I am so glad that I studied enough French that I will be able to read and understand most of the report. #csaqt

@johnharvey1976 @StevenJPayton That’s tough. I have little to go on too. Mainly what came up as triggers and body feelings. V little solid evidence as I was so young . I feel for you - like anything sometimes I think the known is almost easier to deal with than the unknown . #csaqt

Tonight we have been talking about participating in research projects. Please remember that that there is no should or must when others ask us to open up about our experiences. As in so many things NO is a complete sentence and our boundaries are just that ours. #csaqt

@natasha367b @smile4wales I find myself googling my abuser from time to time to see if there's anything out there. I've never found anything, but he molested a young child (he was my teen babysitter) and there's no way I could have been the only one. I just couldn't have. :( #csaqt

@LynneV87 @smile4wales Thank you. I hope that others reported him as well. Surely it wasn't just me. He was skilled at doing what he did like he had done it many many times. #csaqt

@smile4wales @StevenJPayton To definitely have support in place during & after any research interviews/groups. It helped to have an idea of the questions that would be asked beforehand also. Allowing breaks, & having a good ending to reflect was also really important #csaqt

@StevenJPayton Absolutely. For me it was that overwhelming need to see things for survivors improving and real change happen. #csaqt

@smile4wales @from_trauma @StevenJPayton I am glad you got that support. I would have participated in the CIASE project in France had I known about it in time. The Catholic Church in France will be reeling to other it learns the names of over 3,000 pedophile priests. The one I recall was well-known. #csaqt
