Dan spent 16-20 hours per week at @CHEO over the past 2Ā½ years. Thanks to @MonCepeo teacher Micheline Zanth, he was able to complete his high school education and graduate while in treatment.

If you have a family doctor or nearby clinic, a call there might save you hoursā long waits at hospital. If you do need to come to CHEO, our staff and medical staff will do everything in their power to get the world-class, timely care you deserve. +

Weāre doing everything we can to manage volumes and staffing challenges, while minimizing inconvenience to you and your family. +
Obviously, we donāt do this lightly. It pains us to do. But that is the reality. We simply have more people needing care right now than we have space, beds, and people. +
That created a gridlock effect. It meant patients and families coming to emergency but didnāt need immediate care had to wait hours longer. It also meant we had to cancel some planned procedures for the coming week and reschedule others to make space. +
Our emergency department just had its busiest May ever and is on-pace to set a record for June. Yesterday, for the first time anyone can recall, we had *16* patients who were admitted that didnāt have a bed to go to. So, they stayed in āemerg.ā Some for almost 48 hours. +
Over the last six weeks, our in-patient medical wards have been packed. Again, with more young people than normal who are sicker than normal. COVID, flu, surgeries, and many other causes ā all that are keeping kids in hospital for overnight stays. +
Since Friday, we have had more young people than normal for this time of year come to us with viruses, trauma, and injuries that are more severe than normal. Broken bones, head injuries, etc: ailments that require admissions to hospital. But we donāt have any free beds. +
This has been a spring weekend like no other in CHEOās 48-year history. A š§µon why a visit to CHEO right now might feel a bit different. +G
