civil and political society, namely “moral f*gs” get “pwned.”
I completely agree. Starts with the appeals to unilateralism since the natural function of Congress has been overtaken by an Executive since Woodrow Wilson, Exec power seems more efficient-- it is also that rising artifact of hacker subculture, which has taken root now in our twitter.com/GrouchoG/statu…
stating the obvious-- but the obvious needs to be said at its foundational level. All forms and rituals including liberal democratic ones need revitalization or they die and lose their meaning.
identity politics therefore needs to go deeper and look beneath to the elements required for any political community to survive-- and that is the identity that brings people together to create the political community itself and to protect it from outside enemies. I realize I am
is not revelatory to stop there. Said again, even the most saccharine reading of American history that avoids the race issue altogether would be wrong at an elemental level to disregard how critical identity is to any political community. The conversation on
discussions do not go deep enough to understand how identity has always been a component of politics. And in lieu forging a new American identity-- the discussion will default to identity of those factions. But it is not helpful to simply complain about identity politics-- it
So much of politics is about and has always been about identity. The key here is finding a civic identity as Americans that is an umbrella for all the various factional identities. So I suggest that rather than commentating on how everything is identity politics-- such

Such sayings and pseudo-thinking and quasi-political forms are not the remedy here. As Havel writes, "ideology is a specious way of relating to the world. It offers one dignity and morality while doing away with both." I think now is the time for even more engagement
Communist shopkeeper in Havel's power of the powerless). Putting a sign on your fruit stand that states "Workers of the world unite" was not a remedy for the ossification of former Soviet state.
seek to undermine liberal democracy and deny those factions dignity or rights (the result is the same). They are different sides of the same coin- do not engage in that process with curiosity, and look on such subjects purely through an ideological lens (much like I argue the

The forms of liberal democratic society will only become more brittle, overcome by cynicism, irrationality, and indignation. As I have been suggesting since yesterday, the work to be done is not merely political in the traditional sense; but flows from the culture
Factions that do not engage in discourse with those sub-factions that are interested in preserving liberal democracy will never be able to forged a renewed American identity required for our kind of government to survive.
uncomfortable and to make other people uncomfortable — this is going to go against taboo— see it for what it is and try not to personalize it — 4) enjoy it—
I think the take away is that white women who are interested in securing human rights for ourselves need to 1) stop tone policing WOC 2) Listen and ask questions— try to hear what is being said and not whitesplain— Black and WOC have way more experience here 3) get ready to be

If civility culture refuses to engage and learn, & politics remains pure spectacle of consumer content— devoid of a shared human common experience that reincarnates democratic rituals, discourse— factions will find their identity and dignity in the worst demagogues

is a weakness in this context politically.
Some of this is a class thing. I know. I get it. But I consider myself a good gauge because I live in a lot of worlds (maybe that’s delusion)— not suggesting I am above any of this— but this characteristic of American white culture (especially upper middle and up) is a weakness
Civility is not avoidance. An inability of American white culture to confront reality head on and to deliberate with others is hurting the country and I believe only making rhetoric more extreme overall.
So we can add this to the list of rights denied or threatened by criminalizing abortion... Women lose physical autonomy. Privacy. Free movement (now threatened) Right to vote (now threatened) #2ndClass twitter.com/alexadobrien/s…
Mass incarceration of women who have sought abortions (in jurisdictions were criminalized ) is going to strip those women of the right to vote as convicted felons.
