There's always a struggle when we have to decide what gets archived, what is preserved as-is vs what gets curated and picked over, what is outdated but presented with context vs left open for people to access without context. That conversation is now hitting food/recipe websites:โ€ฆ

When people say "no one's talking about this TV news item or article I saw in a major publication" I always read it as "I want to see more public discussion of this thing I only learned about by seeing it just now". People are talking about it. That's how you found out about it.
A couple nights ago I dreamt Tom Hardy (who I've basically only seen in Venom) wrote a lush horror novel about 16th century British colonizers being consumed by the "new world" and since then I keep remembering it's not a real book and being disappointed that I can't read it ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
Made cake donuts for the first time today. They're all dipped in an almond sugar glaze, then some are sprinkled with powder sugar and some dipped in coconut flakes. They're little! Only 1 tbsp of batter each, so take 2 ๐Ÿ˜Š๏ฟฝ

It's just dawned on me that 'cosy mystery', ie the genre where murderers wipe out seven people per book over cupcake recipes or directing the village play, should in fact be called Homicidal Monsters Everywhere In Your Life, You Are Safe Nowhere mystery.

Honestly I only subject myself to the daily Discourse on here because this is where you keep your cute animal pics.
When I can't sleep, I sketch my cats while they're sleeping. Asher is perfect to practice on because he moves every 10 minutes -- whatever I get on paper before he rolls over is all I get. #sketchbook #PencilDrawing #QuickSketch
Hey #twithaca friends! If you can drop your extra newspapers at the @SPCAofTC, it would really help them out. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโ€ฆKkI
My October newsletter has gone out! It's free to read and subscribe, and I only send it once a month, on the 5th (so it doesn't get lost among all the 1st of the month letters). Please check it out, and share. Thank you! Letter 3: Happy Harvestโ€ฆ
For October I'm watching "monster" movies I've never seen before and doing quick sketches, mostly to practice using Copic ink pens. (I've also been posting mini reviews online.) So far: Love and Monsters, Goosebumps, Goosebumps 2 Haunted Halloween, The Vโ€ฆ
I keep telling myself that one day I will be able to eat toast without crumbs falling into my cleavage. Today is not that day.
Mini Monster Movie Review + Sketch: "The Vast of Night" (2019) - There aren't really any monsters in this movie, at least not like you'd expect, but it's one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Thanks @rileycran for suggesting it!โ€ฆ
Today weโ€™ll start at the beginning. The very beginning! The roots of D&D lie in the small wargaming communities of the 1960s. Itโ€™s widely acknowledged that the first published wargame was Little Wars in 1913, written by speculative fiction author HG Wells.

Look sometimes a girl has to have two previous suitors die under mysterious circumstances in order to find the husband of her dreams. That's just how romance works.โ€ฆ
I cope with ADHD by owning very little and carefully organizing. Having stuff is stressful. I also live with 2 pack rats. (One's a child but still.) Today I emptied out a corner of the living room and my brain instantly relaxed SO HA HA IT'S MY SPACE NOW I'M NOT GIVING IT BACK.
I understand what Brandon's going through - nothing affects my productivity as much as the bone-deep stress of not being able to pay my bills. No one should have to go through that. If you can, please help by clicking though to @therisingtithes's Ko-Fi here:โ€ฆ
I know about #5AMWritersClub but is there a "5 AM cleaning my kitchen because I should be writing" club?
Itโ€™s weird because when your book doesnโ€™t sell well the tendency is to assume itโ€™s because no one wants it, as if your publisher offered it to every person in the world and they all said no. The truth is most people have no idea your book came out/exists and THATโ€™S the problem.

Mini Monster Movie Review + Sketches: โ€œGoosebumpsโ€ (2015) vs "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" (2018) One of these movies is not like the other, one of these movies isn't much fun....โ€ฆ
People often assume that writers, artists, creative people in general have these great visual imaginations, but it's not always the case. And we don't need that to create. I don't have to be able to *see* something in my head to know the facts, the idea of it. I just know.
Here's a useful tool to show people how I visualize things every day, because I can't. I'm around 3.9 if I make an effort while awake; even my most vivid dreams hover around 3.5. When I was a kid and people talked about "mental images", I thought it was a metaphor. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏโ€ฆ

A gentle follow-up to this tweet--the Philippines' national hero, Jose Rizal, was a writer. He believed in the power of the written word, and his novels led an entire country to a revolution. If you can, please read a Filipino book this month.โ€ฆ

Started my morning with a fresh-made veggie stirfry and an unexpected showing of INTO THE SPIDERVERSE on tv. I've seen it a dozen times at least and you know what? I'll stop what I'm doing and watch it every time it comes on, just to see Miles fly.
Excellent thread of #FatFightScenes - with video clips! Matt really knows his stuff, folks. That octopus fight scene... Wow. And if you like this, check out his books, especially his lucha libre novel BUMP (out now) and his upcoming SUPER VILLAIN'S GUIDE TO BEING A FAT KID ๐Ÿ’•โ€ฆH
Mini Monster Movie Review + Sketch: "Love and Monsters" (2020) This movie is adorable, with gorgeous monsters and a low-stakes story about decent people coming together at the end of the world. I've watched it twice already this week. And I drew a snail๐Ÿ˜โ€ฆ2
I do trans sensitivity reading myself, BUT I especially love to play matchmaker between projects and trans readers. If you're looking for a trans consultant for a piece, I'd love to help you find a reader. (I don't take a cut! I just like doing this.) Feel free to share etc!

Sep 2021 Flash Fiction Story "A Hunger That Crosses Galaxies" is now live, unlocked/free to read. Be warned: this is not a friendly, happy story. Hungry aliens, death, wounds on the body, tiny mouths with needle teeth. Please RT + share with your friends!
Once again, I was unable to make it all the way through a Zoom meeting this morning without at least one of my cats appearing on camera. Everyone stopped and said hi to my cat, of course. I don't associate with monsters.
I did a reading a few years back with only one person in the audience. I read a favorite short story; the person teared up, thanked me several times, and went away happy they came to my reading. You can be disappointed in a small audience, but give them what they came for first.โ€ฆ
Not everything this month was bad! But it's SO MUCH. New thing to learn then new errand to run then new problem to solve then stress then appointment then deadline then unexpected expense then all over again, one after another. I need a month of naps (I won't get) to recover.
Pandemic hasn't been good for anyone but I rarely felt as completely underwater as I do now. Sep 2021 hit me like getting rear-ended by the previous 18 months then charging car repairs + work + family + homeschool + isolation + stress to a credit card to be October's problem too.
#Destiny2 is probably my favorite console game (definitely the game I've played the most for several years - since D1, baby!) and @AbleGamers does excellent work advocating for accessibility in gaming. I'm so glad @Bungie is supporting AG + making useful changes going forward. ๐Ÿ˜โ€ฆg
My "Patreon Exclusive" art for September is now online - unlocked/public for everyone to see - with a bonus essay about my struggle to not only learn illustration, but to see myself as someone who COULD learn to draw. Also, I love garlic.โ€ฆ
The first episode of LA BREA was as terrible as expected but when they showed a giant prehistoric sloth on the "later this season" preview, the sound I made? Only dogs (and maybe dire wolves) could hear it. MEGAFAUNA SLOTH, PEOPLE. That's it. That's the tweet.
It took 25 minutes to get to the dire wolves but they ate someone so already they're living their best lives. Good job, prehistoric doggos.
15 minutes in and I have SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Sneak preview of this month's #patreon "exclusive" art - going up tomorrow with a post about the process of making this illustration, and thoughts about drawing food. Link in profile! #foodillustration #copicmarkers #copic #penandink #stainedglass #garlic
I'm giddy with excitement to watch the premiere of LA BREA on NBC tonight, which is already being called an "utter disaster about a disaster" and "sucking sinkhole of a sci-fi mystery". Obvious green screens! Inspirational disability slow-mo! Mystical mental illness! DINOSAURS??
Up at 4:30 am to finish this month's "Patreon Exclusive" art (tho it'll be unlocked so everyone can see it this month). Writing the process post now: notes about getting back into art + my interest in food illustration. Is there anything you'd want me to talk about in this post?
