In this week's Celebrity Watch, I had GOOD TIMES making jokes about Laurence Fox, which was presumably a circumstance brought about by soft men: thetimes.co.uk/article/caitli…
Today's joyous thing: the NME cover with @SELFESTEEM___ copying the Britney cover, as a grown-ass feminist woman; Boots meal-deal and all. "I want to be too much": nme.com/big-reads/self…
The last para is a masterclass in how to write about death without writing about death: @HarryHill on the loss of Sean Lock. Quite beautiful: theguardian.com/stage/2021/aug…
The UK's pledge of 20,000 Afghan refugees over five years barely cancels out their deportations of the past decade. My chart for @NewStatesman today ⤵️ twitter.com/georgeeaton/st…

Dominic Raab shouted to Keir Starmer, "What would you do differently?" in regard to the crisis in Afghanistan. Starmer calmly replied, "I wouldn't have gone on holiday when Kabul was falling."

I met Paul McCartney because of Sean Locke, just after meeting Sean himself. He shouted “Oi Paul!” Across Soho Sq, Paul waved back, came over and chatted for half an hour. When he left I said “How do you know him?” Sean said “I don’t, but he knows he’s Paul McCartney doesn’t he”

Sean took me for pizza when I moved to London and said “Karen says I’ve not to let you die the first week you get here. Now next week is entirely up to you Wason” ❤️

I've disagreed with Danny over most interventions of the past 20 years (although not including Afghanistan, as it happens) but he's devastating here, and not wrong, either. twitter.com/thetimes/statu…

Funnily enough *exactly* the same arguments were used when Ugandan Asians were fleeing Idi Amin's regime in 1972. Around 27,000 ended up settling in the UK & went on to achieve enormous success. As it happens Priti Patel's parents were among those who emigrated from Uganda to UK. twitter.com/SkyNews/status…

@caitlinmoran I want 10,000 tough guys, and I want 10,000 soft guys to make the tough guys look tougher! And here's how I want them arranged: tough, soft, tough, tough, soft, tough, soft, soft, tough, tough, soft, soft, tough, soft.

Lawrence Fox’s whole vibe is ‘drama school student trying to fit in at summer job in rough pub’.
Retweeted by Caitlin Moran
The original writer of Fox's "hard men make good times" is "post-apocalyptic fantasy novellist" G Michael Hopf, who runs a business with “renowned paranormal investigator” Shannon LeGro. Not a key anthropological expert. His Insta has a good gif of a dog on a skateboard, tho
@caitlinmoran I don’t get why he wants ‘hard men for a good time’….?

Can't help but note this unstable, cyclical man-rota of repetitive failure does seem to lead to the suggestion "Maybe let the women take over for a bit."
If you want to know you can do to help re Afghanistan. This from @sophieibbotson_ is a great start. Sophie is an expert on Central Asia. Editors also take note, she knows the region inside out . facebook.com/sophie.ibbotso…

Book recommendation - I've just read @WixKaty's "Delicacy", which I believe has been criminally over-looked. It's a memoir about food - too much, not enough - & illness, & grief, & rammed with lines I read over & over. A book whose company you really enjoy, & a new hero to love
Here I am in a £6 paddling pool in my son's shorts in 14°C and high winds testing how to relax at home? Huge thanks to @Ellaberthoud @heidihauer and @madame_camille_ and more. No thanks at all to @caitlinmoran for the blackhead video or anyone who suggested I MAKE SOUP. twitter.com/guardiang2/sta…

The argument that your pay should be linked to whether or not you work from home leads, I feel, logically, to tax-relief for rent/mortgages for your new living/work space, so BRING IT ON. twitter.com/jamesrbuk/stat…

What a terrific book—deeply convincing in both its alarm & its awe for the natural world. Rebanks makes vividly clear that the question of how to farm is a question of human survival on this hard-used planet. He should be read by everyone who grows food & by everyone who eats it. twitter.com/customhousebks…

Yet more scaremongering from the BBC. So-called "rain" is just a Big Meteorology psy-op designed to render the population cowed and controllable. DON'T USE UMBRELLAS! They contain antennas which broadcast your location to the powers that be!

The climate crisis is the result of a very small group of people destroying the planet to get extraordinarily rich. It's not humanity's failing, it is not human nature. It is something that can be stopped if the majority join together to hold that very small group to account.
