On Sunday, 20 years of U.S. efforts against the Taliban and a nation-building experiment in Afghanistan were erased in just a few months as the Taliban captured the capital city of Kabul.
Here's a thread of the conflict's history in front pages. ⬇️ nyti.ms/3yUBiGq
"And if you are the successful woman, let's say in the workplace, you are this lone successor. You are this lone hero. And I'm here to say no." says former @CNN anchor @BrookeBaldwin. She talks about the value of shared success and her new book, Huddle.
“School and child-care closures in the pandemic pushed parents, mostly women, to a breaking point, either out of work or completely overloaded. *Ten million mothers* of school-age children were out of the work force at the start of the year, an increase of 1.4m from 2020.” twitter.com/EmilyRPeck/sta…
"A huddle is where women thrive, succeed, and get things done. But it can also be where they just hold space for one another."
Thanks to @BrookeBaldwin for this conversation on her new book #Huddle and for sharing advice on the collective power of women! ow.ly/1Ph150EyILZ
Journalist & author @BrookeBaldwin sat down with UTA's Blair Kohan to discuss her new book "Huddle", why it is so important for women to support one another & the value of instilling confidence in girls at a young age:
From pregame "huddle" to round table...we had a great event with @BrookeBaldwin and @juliettekayyem about her book #Huddle and the power of female togetherness! There is so much power in the huddle. (And it never hurts to keep your highlighter on point 🙌)@BelferCenterri
We do need diverse voices telling our stories. From in front of the camera to the executive suites. We’re making progress. Whatever industry you’re in, my parting words: get uncomfortable, speak up and keep pushing.
To relate that to TV: When I saw the women White House correspondents for TV and print, one after another, standing up to ask President Biden a question at his first press conference, I was on my feet in my office cheering them on. SO many women. Black, white, brown. PROGRESS.
She said it started with @MiaHamm. And then @AbbyWambach and eventually her — fighting for what’s right, fair and equal for the next generation of women soccer players. When these women left the team, they urged the remaining players to leave the team better than they found it.
Lastly, I’m leaving this place even better than I found it.
I’m borrowing a line from the leaders of the US Women’s National Team… as told to me by @mPinoe when I recently interviewed her for my book, Huddle.
A decade ago I didn’t even know this show would become mine...
And now a decade later, I find myself in a similar spot — not totally knowing what’s next.
And... I’m okay with that.
What I do know: I’m a journalist and a storyteller for life.
This job… using my voice… for over a decade… has been nothing short of a profound privilege.
And so to you at home, thank you.
Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for holding me accountable.
Thank you for all the love. I’m reading every single one of your DMs.
You and I have witnessed history together. From marriage equality to the pandemic, the Women’s March to Me Too, natural disasters and senseless shootings. And now we wait for justice in a trial where another Black man in America has died at the hands of police.
The then-bosses quickly turned to me and said: “Brooke, we’re going to need you to keep the seat warm just for a week until we actually find the person who will take over this show.” Well guest what? I have kept this seat warm for nearly 11 years.
Let me let you in on a little secret: this job, my show here on @CNN wasn’t originally supposed to be mine. More than a decade ago, an anchor suddenly departed CNN leaving this gaping hole in the afternoons…
Biden will deliver his remarks announcing a withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in the Treaty Room tomorrow. It’s the same place George W. Bush first announced airstrikes in October 2001. Presidents rarely deliver remarks there:
In addition to delivering remarks tomorrow, @POTUS will visit Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery tomorrow to pay his respects to the brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.
Oh man. So many tears falling here. #GeorgeFloyd’s family meets #DaunteWright’s family for the first time. Watching this in person is a whole lot. The families pain is searing. You can feel it.
Deleted initial tweet for my crap spelling. Apologies.
1/2 Please stop saying. "This is not America" when another unarmed Black man or Black boy is killed by the police.
Please stop saying "This is not who we are" when there's another school shooting.
This is America.
This is who we are.
Absolutely loved this conversation w CNN's @BrookeBaldwin about her amazing new book, Huddle, (just out so go get it!). It's about the power of harnessing the collective with women (the huddle) & I'M HERE FOR THAT ALL DAMN DAY. 😉 apple.co/3dEHXvilspoti.fi/31Vpm8MST
